Started at 205lbs, day 25…. 190lbs, thats what Im talkin about!! Thank you IR!!

I’ve always been an amateur athlete. I grew up swimming, biking, and trying to be a runner. In my mid-20s, I started doing Sprint Triathlons. Every year, I tried to train more and more, and I prepared for many months for a Sprint Triathlon inLong Beachin September 2010.
It was the day before the race. I went to pick up my bib number at the expo and that was when I ran into the Innovative Results team. They were there with battling ropes and—I think—even a tire to demonstrate strength training techniques.
My boyfriend and I made our way over to check out what they were doing. I was feeling really strong that day, but I’ll never forget how I felt when I picked up that battling rope. It was so heavy! I went from feeling really confident in all the “over training” that I had done to realizing that I had wasted a lot of time training ineffectively. You don’t get stronger and faster by just doing the same exercise for longer periods of time or by doing an exercise at the same level of intensity.
The following weekend after the race, I went to a free educational running clinic at Innovative Results. I really had to see this place and find out what I was missing. I spent the next couple months researching training programs online until I finally just called them one morning before work. Aaron Guyett was great on the phone. He asked me about my past and present level of fitness and what I was looking to achieve. Based on what I told him, he setup an appointment for me with one of the trainers.
I showed up the next day for my first training session and I have been fanatical about Innovative Results ever since. My trainer is a certified dietician. She not only gives me the best, most effective workouts, but she has taught me how to eat better and help my muscles recover quicker.
I’ve been at Innovative Results for 10 months now, and I’m so proud to say that on February 5, 2012, I ran the Surf City Marathon! I could have never done it without training at Innovative Results. The intensity, strength, and core exercises that I do there improved every aspect of my body and prepared me for performance!
I have so much energy everyday and I feel so good about myself! The last year has been life changing for me. The Innovative Results team does amazing work!

I started at IR a little more than a year ago, on a referral from Dr. Chrissy & the Man-imal that is Tommy Christian. I needed to get out of pear shape and into a better overall level of fitness & wellness. I’ve battled back issues for years that stem from an accident & then stupidity (a few years back, I crashed a bike crusier, damaged my ankle, then went out on jet skis, launched off a reef outside ofCapoBeach, and in protecting the ankle, sacrificed my back). I’ve always enjoyed out of the ordinary workouts, and there is nothing ordinary (compared to your local meathead gym) about IR. The workouts are………wait for it………..INNOVATIVE!!! My trainer got me……….wait for it…………RESULTS……….provided i actually listed to Jeff’s recommendations in my food journal. I was constantly pushed beyond my comfort zone and continuously surprised myself in what I was able to do as time progressed. It made me want to come in and get beat on for an hour as often as my schedule would allow!! My brother’s wedding came and went (another reason to lose the pear shape) and I knew that i was in the best condition and mindset that i had been in since high school!!! I sustained a wrist injury & that coupled with some financial issues that need to be resolved, forced me to take some time off in the fall and winter, and everything i had worked towards suffered. The Man-imal convinced me that i needed to join the transformation challenge, and he couldnt have been more correct. It reminded what i was getting out of IR……motivation, a sense of belonging to something more than just a gym for workouts, and the desire to make myself an overall better person! I was telling someone the other, there are soo many things I love……well I hate them, but I love them after i finish a work out…………the battling ropes and tsunamis………the pullups (ok fine, arm hangs cause i cant pull myself up) & the pushups (ok fine again……..modified pushups, cause I cant sustain proper form for a prolonged amount of time)………the sled pushes and the knife fights (no caviates there!)…….everyday is different when i come in, and i enjoy that sooo much more than repeadidly picking up & putting things down. The trainers always encourage you, even if you arent directly working out with them……..the clients that help round out the IR family get behind one another to encourage & push one another beyond what they think is individually possible. IR is a place that I know in one way or another, will be a part of my life for the forseeable future…………I just hope i havent embarrassed Team Bob Loblaw’s Law Blog with my performance in this transformation due to my difficult work / travel schedule……..or this rant………I mean testimonial because I really do love coming to IR and know that for everything i put into it, I get even more back in return!!

“Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but one can start today and make a new ending. So, there is no wedding, no reunion, simply a party of one for a healthier me. At the start of this challenge I thought I would lose a couple of pounds, but it has become more than that. It has challenged my mental toughness. After working 9-10 hours the last thing I wanted to do was workout. I feed off the energy from my teammates (go Honey Badgers!), some of the other clients and other trainers at Innovative Results. We all encouraged each other, no matter if you were a rookie or a long time member. Everyone is given the attention we deserve.
To sum up what I found out from all the daily emails of encouragement, from the texts and daily face to face interaction with Aaron Guyett, my trainer, is the following: “Everyone has a gift, is that something that you do with the least effort.” That’s what I at Innovative Results have learn how to get better-one step, one thought, one breath at a time.

Since joining the “Transformation Challenge” I have noticed staggering results in my health and athletic performance! In the short amount of time I have been with “Innovative Results” I have definitely grown stronger, quicker and developed more stamina. With increased energy and motivation levels, these changes have made a dramatic improvement in my soccer game and over all well being. I just feel better therefore my attitude is better and consequently my actions with people and the world around me better. With that I lift a special thanks to my trainer Aaron and the rest of the Innovative Results Staff!!! 😉

Not long ago I read a book called “The Life You Always Wanted”. One particular chapter titled “Training Vs Trying” was an especially impacting for me. It spoke to the notion that our spiritual development is not unlike developing athletic strength and ability. We grow stronger and more capable as we persevere through difficulty. We intentionally push ourselves. If we do not give up we will surely gain the strength to do well and it becomes more natural.
What does this have to do with working out at Innovative Results? EVERYTHING! This book (along with other observations and experiences) has helped me to realize my spiritual walk encompasses every detail of my live. My experience over the last month at I.R. has been an exceptionally tangible example of what the author was writing about. When I started the month, I was not able to do what I am capable of doing now.
My time at IR has been a true blessing. I feel stronger, more relaxed, I’m eating better, my prayer time is more focused, I am more disciplined, more motivated, feel more empowered! I now look forward to the challenges. I if pain is part of the process, well I will grow stronger for it! So bring it on!
Thanks Aaron and I.R.!!! I look forward to more growth in the coming months!

Finding a Balance
6 years ago, I retired from competitive figure skating. I was an Olympic hopeful from the age 12 until I retired at 24. Spending my life as an athlete, I was hardcore with my diet and exercise as the shape that my body was in directly affected to outcome of my performance. Now, living in the “real world” I have struggled with finding a balance between my high expectations of body image and being able to live a normal, social life. I am a coach for figure skating now and really want to be an excellent role model in all ways for my students especially when it comes to body image. For the past 6 years it has been a constant struggle for me to find balance when it comes to diet and exercise. As soon as I start to feel weight come on, I would do some major crash diet that was really unsustainable and lose weight but gain it back after a couple weeks of being off of it. I just kept feeling like a failure. When it came to exercise, I was really inconsistent. I lacked the motivation to push hard or even workout more than twice a week. I would train for marathons and as soon as they were over I would find it hard to set foot in a gym for at least two weeks. This constant roller coaster really brought me down.
Starting with Amanda Brown at Innovative Results I found that it was easier for me to stay on workout schedule and she really gave me the motivation to stay consistent. I found myself training with her twice a week and running twice a week on a consistent basis in December and January. I saw results, but wanted a quick fix to my weight and problem areas so I started another impossible diet. With this diet, I dropped weight super fast but also got sick and emotionally tired from the lack of calories and carbohydrates. It was a strain on my health and even relationships. Again another fail and by mid January, I had gained the weight back. I was frustrated.
When the Team Transformation Challenge was announced, I thought “Yes! What a great opportunity for me to go really hardcore and get the body I want”. So I joined a team, with my friend, and was all set to go. Except! I set myself up for failure again with my diet plans. I started a daily journal for weight, diet and exercise. I would make a diet plan for each day and try to stick to it, but for the first week I just kept failing!! And by failing I would eat something not on the plan, feel guilty and binge the rest of the day thinking that I would just start over the next day and be even stricter. Finally, I realized that I was being unrealistic and setting myself up for failure. After a good cry/emotional breakdown, I decided to nix the journal and diet expectations and just make the best food and drink decision possible and every chance so that at the end of the day, I could pat myself on the back for good choices instead of tearing myself down for failing.
The first few days into this plan were not that great, but as I really started to trust myself, I started making better and better decisions. As a former athlete and with a BS in Health Science, nutrition has always been easy for me to understand. I knew it was about simplicity. I needed to eat clean, exercise 5-6 days a week and drink a lot of water.
I gave up alcohol and limited processed foods. My snacks are raw vegetables and fruit such as bell peppers, tomatoes, cucumber, oranges and apples. For breakfast I eat egg whites with a low card, high fiber and whole wheat tortilla or one piece of whole wheat toast with almond butter; with coffee or tea. If I’m in a hurry to coach I have a nonfat latte and protein bar. All my days are very active with coaching or working out, so my snacks are really my meals. Along with the fruit and veggies I have a can of tuna or a protein bar to get me through the day. Dinner has become strictly vegetables and protein such as a salad with salsa for dressing, black beans, tomatoes, avocado and some veggies or steamed veggies and salmon. It’s easy, light and satisfying. But most importantly, I am not absolutely starving by the time I get to dinner because I have nourished my body during the day.
Looking back at the past two weeks, I have been able to eat more, have tons of energy and feel really good about myself. I have finally found some balance in my diet and my lifestyle.
As for workouts, I train with Amanda twice a week; Wednesday and Friday mornings. These workouts are tough and exhausting, but I feel strong and awesome afterwards. On Monday nights, I take an intense yoga class for an hour. Tuesdays and Saturdays I run for 40 minutes on the treadmill and sometimes do abdominal exercises. Thursdays, I either make it in time for a fantastic cycle class or miss out on a bike and commit to cardio and abdominal exercises. Sundays are a rest day for me. I have had this schedule for the past two weeks to help with the challenge, but really feel that I can keep it up from now on. I feel great and I am slowly, but surely getting to the body that I want. The workouts work with my schedule and I have the energy and desire to do them. I have finally found some balance with working out and my lifestyle.
Because I had two failing weeks during this challenge, I do not expect to see grand results during assessments, but I am ok with that because I have gone through a journey and feel that I have come up on top of my game with no need to binge or take a break from working out! It’s a great feeling!

First of all, as you may know now due to my music video; I work out! I work out at Innovative Results with Jeffrey DeRitter twice a week, but I also stay busy on my days and nights not at IR. I run, do yoga, spin, lift weights, or whatever Groupon offers that peeks my interest. I’m the type of person that when I miss a deadline for a race that
I want to run, I will run 14 miles just so that I can prove to myself that I could have run that race plus some.
I have always been able to maintain an average weight, although on occasion my clothes feel a little tighter than usual. I was even a trainer at some point for a gym myself. During that time I was the proudest of my body that I had ever been. The problem though back then was that I didn’t know how to eat. I thought that a bowl of Honey Bunches of Oats and fat-free milk was a perfectly healthy meal to eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I
was starving my body of essential nutrients, and not fueling my body properly for the trauma that I was putting it through. So like most good things, my body didn’t stay the way I wanted it to for very long.
When I started at Innovative Results, I have to admit that I didn’t think I would last there for very long. I had a bit of arrogance, thinking that I knew enough to get the results that I wanted on my own. With that in mind I only signed up for a month to month membership. Well one month has changed into almost 2 years, and without an ending in sight.
I still feel that I know enough about my body and working out to get the results that I want, but I don’t think that is where people fail. I think it takes more than just knowing what to do to get the job done; it takes support and motivation to help see you through to your end result.
Innovative Results, and especially Jeff, has seen more potential in me than I would have ever seen in myself. The way they push you, knowing that you are holding back, and knowing you have what it takes to get there. I have no problem with going out and pushing myself when it comes to running; running is my comfort zone. But to believe that I am capable of pushing a sled for an entire mile or encouraging me to beat my personal record with the Versa Climber are things that I could not have done without their support.
My body is what it is, and I am proud of how hard I have worked to earn it. My body has not only transformed in the 30 days of this challenge but has been transforming since I started at IR. I have muscle definition that was never there before, and the stamina to get me through some of the craziest and most intense workouts. My diet fuels my body for whatever is to come that day at IR, and doesn’t weigh or slow me down.
The transformation challenge was exactly that…a challenge to say the least. For some reason I was extremely anxious about it the entire time. The Versa Climber has become my nemesis, and although I didn’t defeat it today, it will still happen. My biggest challenge was getting over my own mental block. I end up selling my self short and then disappointed myself with the outcome. Having a trainer like Jeff, who encouraged me and gave me the tools to accomplish my goals, was priceless. Over the many workouts that I have had with him he has learned the areas in which I lack, and those are where he gives the helping hand. The fact that he knows what I am capable of and never lets me give up is what is so great about IR.

Thank you for the “Team Challenge”. I have been coming to IR for about 3 months and was hesitant to join a team for this challenge. I am 42 and have always kept in pretty good shape up until October 2010 when I tore my ACL, meniscus, and cartilage playing basketball resulting in surgery. I had ACL reconstruction and repair on my meniscus and woke up to find I also went through a micro fracture procedure which left me non-weight bearing for 6 weeks and slowed my physical therapy and recovery. After six months I was probably in the worst shape in my life. From day one at IR Aaron opened my eyes to training methods I never even knew about. I learned about having the right mindset, proper movement, and intentional recovery. I have worked out hard and Aaron has always been concerned for my bad knee. It was hard setting goals for the challenge. I figured if I just sets goals to see some improvement in each of the testing areas and that would be good enough for me. What I didn’t consider was the mindset improvements that would come with this challenge. The accountability was huge. I loved the emails and being pushed by any and everyone that knew I was a part of the challenge. The main improvements for me have been nutrition and consistency with my workouts. No more soda or junk food. It is all because the change in my mindset. I found that I need to be challenged. ABC, A – always, B – be, C – challenged, “always be challenged! ALWAYS BE CHALLENGED!!!” Keep the emails coming. Keep pushing me. I will keep setting goals, reach those goals and be in the best shape of my life.

February has been a pretty amazing, yet exhausting month. I definitely stepped up my game in workouts; however it was my nutrition plan that suffered. I am completely able to stay consistent in my workout routine but it is inconsistency in my eating that keeps me from the results I truly desire.
With as random of a work schedule as I have during the week, some days working 12-14 hours jumping from 1 job to the next really affects what and when I eat. I tried to not make this schedule an excuse this month and it started strong (preparing food ahead of time), but quickly went down the crapper. I was however more focused on how much alcohol was consumed over the month of February, trying to limit as much a possible. It wasn’t eliminated, but it was drastically reduced so YAY.
I absolutely loved my team. We definitely had a good match together and helped motivate and push each other through the month. Knowing you have a support group and people that are counting on you to improve not just to win but for yourself was fun, not to mention incredibly helpful when working until 2 or 3am and having to be back at the gym at 9am to get in a workout.
So in all there wasn’t much weight loss BUT I feel great, increased muscle definition, improved my energy levels, and I WILL GET 300 on the VERSACLIMBER!!
….Alright here is exactly why the change remains inconsistent… it is 2:39 AM and I just got home from work, and get to wake up and do assessments at 9AM… It may not be a day for 300, but I will give it my all for the team.

When you write a testimony for a product or service there’s the tough part of showing your true appreciation, while also ensuring that others believe you in what you to say. With Innovative Results, and especially Jeff DeRitter, the amount of gratitude I have within isn’t simply put into words. I have been with Innovative Results for over 2 years and I can without doubt say that it has by far been one of the greatest investments I have ever made. I always say, the best test for determining if someone is genuine in what they mean is asking them if they would get on the 6 o’clock news and express it to those watching; and that is how confident I am in the results of Innovative Results. Throughout the years I have attempted to achieve various goals, and with the guidance of Jeff, almost each has been achieved or will be achieved in the days to come. With the current competition, as well as other goals, the outcomes have been objective, but more importantly the progression is shown. The encouragement of Jeff is invaluable. The atmosphere is not of “you should to do it be better than others” but of “you CAN do it and everyone here will help get you there”. The positive attributes of Jeff, and Innovative Results is an endless list; but I will have to leave it at that. All I can say is a simple THANK YOU! to Innovative Results and an extra THANK YOU! To Jeff DeRitter to getting me where I am today and helping me get to the goals ahead.

Michelangelo said it best when he said, “The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark.” When I heard about the 29 day challenge, at Innovative Results, I started making up excuses not to sign up; the exercises looked too hard, my body couldn’t handle it, what if I couldn’t keep up with everyone? Then, I realized how sick and tired I was of making up excuses. I either wanted to change or not. I HAD strong determination and drive to sign up and change what I had never been willing to change before. I knew it was going to challenge me physically, but nothing could prepare me for the emotional and mental hurdles I would overcome; the sleepless nights because my adrenals kept the adrenaline going, the anger because I wasn’t losing weight fast enough, and the tears because my self esteem was low and I pushed too hard during one of the workouts. So many times I thought this isn’t worth it, I’m not going to make it, and I want to drop out. My aim and expectations of myself were too high, so half way through the challenge, I decided to do an experiment. If I let go of the emotions and embrace that I faced my fears by signing up and sticking with it every week doing my best, could it make a difference? Could thoughts hold a person back that much? Guess what? They do if you let them be your story! I’ve let go of the insecurities, the self consciousness, and embraced doing my very best during each workout. One of the inspirational videos emailed to us, by the IR staff, helped me; the one where coach is telling his football player to give his best. The player gives his best and went farther than he thought. This last week I’ve worked out two days in a row with no adrenal issues and I feel great! Talk about giving my best and doing better than I thought. Of course, using a sauna, Epsom salt baths, and oxygen has helped my recovery time tremendously. On the days I’m not at IR, I’m doing yoga, walking, or using a stretching DVD to keep my muscles moving and help them recover even more. As for the IR workouts, they’re fun and make me feel like I’m a kid playing! We use ropes, and sleds, and versa climbers, oh my! I used to go to a regular gym and train with a personal trainer. That experience was mediocre compared to the IR workouts. Instead of working out each section of my body on different days, my whole body gets a workout every time. Each workout is different, which keeps it fun and keeps me coming back every week. How could you not, when you do tsunamis, push the sled, or bear crawl? Now that’s gold! Of course I owe some of the credit to my awesome trainer, Jeff. I’m grateful for his fun, knowledgeable, and encouraging personality. Thank you Jeff! Sharing my story has motivated some of my friends to exercise more. My husband started biking to work again and my coworker started up an exercise program of her own. How rewarding to know I have helped others better their fitness. Now that’s priceless.

29 DAYS TO SUCCESS!!!
Snapshot of Karen’s transformation:
Lost 10 lbs. in one month
Dropped from size 12 to 8
Totally energized
Joined a 12-mile hike with an advanced team of athletes
Who says age is not a factor? It was for me. I had already decided to join Weight Watchers to lose weight because my previous workout plan alone wasn’t giving me results. I used to cycle twice a week and jog once or twice a week around 2 to 4 miles, feeling completely exhausted. Cardio used to keep me in shape and I could eat – in moderation – pretty much anything I wanted. About a year ago, I started piling up the pounds although my diet remained the same and my workout also pretty much the same. Six months later, I worked out even less because I was discouraged and lost energy. I went from a size 4 to a size 10, sometimes 12, in one year. I went to the doctor believing I had hormonal problems, but my doctor said the usual: “You’re just getting older.” It’s true, my mom may have not looked like me at my age but I was still feeling the weight of my forties. I could not figure out what the problem was since I was doing everything right!
My biggest accomplishment at Innovative Results in the last 29 days is the energy surge I get from the short but intense workouts, the loss of weight from 160 pounds to 150 pounds in just one month without going through IR’s detox plan, the relaxing nights of deep sleep, the waking up to a trimmer and leaner physique, fitting into a size 8, and the best part was that I was able to join and keep up with an advanced team of athletes on a 12-mile hike on Pacifico Mountain – when it was my first time hiking, EVER! It’s been a life changing experience. I am in the same physical condition as a marathon runner, a regular kick-boxer and a yoga instructor, who hike on a regular basis. I feel much stronger, happier, more balanced and I am having fun while working out without having to kill myself with cardio. Amazingly, it was all done in one month! I am also venturing out and trying new things because I feel capable of taking on the challenge. Age has been a factor on my body and I now realize that I did need innovative techniques for better results! I have decided to continue my workouts and can’t wait until I reach my goals! Thank you, Aaron, and the IR team!
