Although it should be reasonably clear by now why running is one of the better things you can do to improve your health, there are still people wondering what the benefits of running are.
Well, if you aren’t a runner yet, I hope you’ll consider being one after having read my blog. I’ll cover the most important benefits of running here. If that’s not enough to change your mind, I don’t know what will!
One of the most obvious reasons people choose to get into running is weight loss.
I’ve always been in pretty good health, played most sports as a youth, so for me, it wasn’t so much the same reason as most others. For me, it was seeing other fellow runners, friends, clients. etc. and how much they enjoyed it. About a year ago, one of my former clients Julie came to me and said “I’m really bored with my workout routines, I want to try something new”…I immediately knew what to suggest…running! I told her to give running a try, and even though she was skeptical at first, she fell right in love with it! I even told her that if she trained for a 5K I would run her first one with her…guess what, she did awesome!
A lot of my current clients are running or are picking up the habit through positive reinforcement from each other!
I have clients who were never avid runners before, and are now doing 5K’s, 10K’s, mud runs. My client Shane Galitski is going to Hawaii in September to compete in a Half Marathon! He’s been training with me at the IR gym, and outside the gym prepping himself for the race! He’s going to do awesome because he has the motivation, the drive and all of his peers cheering him on! Shane has been inspirational! My other clients Curt and Caroline Flemming and Kathy York are now busting out 5K and 10K races now! And it’s been awesome getting to participate with them in some of the events!
The benefits of training are life changing!
Once you start running the fat in your body will make place for new muscle! There are so many benefits to running it’s crazy! Once you start on a normal routine, the dietary benefits kick in as well. You no longer have a desire to want to eat unhealthy, and even when you slip up and do, your metabolism in burning at a faster rate to help you out a little bit…at least that’s what I have experienced! The mental benefits of running have been proven to create better sleep patterns and in some cases cure clinical depression! Also what are the benefits of running over some other typical forms of exercise? Once you have your running shoes, socks, shorts, and t-shirt you are good to go anywhere in the world, whether you are traveling a lot or not. Whether you have irregular shifts or not. You can always go for a run.
My clients have motivated me to run, and it’s been one of the greatest things for me! I have already completed a few 5 and 10K’s, mud runs and one Ragnar Relay (which was the best thing ever!). I will be competing in my second one with my other client Ray Vincent in September, when out 12 man relay team will travel from San Francisco to Napa Valley!
With all these great benefits…how can you say no to running!?!?

That’s really cool that you can have better sleep patterns when you run. My husband does like to run, but I haven’t ever really tried it. I guess that I’ll have to start going with him because that will probably be fun. Maybe we should train for a 5k charity run like you did.
