Why? Because this is a success story that is relatable for the majority of the folks that step foot on to Orange County’s Fitness Playground for the first time.

A huge thank you to Winston Yu for taking the time to share his experience and fitness results!

My brother and I joined Innovative Results because of a Groupon promotion and at the urging of a church friend. A group of us signed up together and after the first session, we were hooked! I am incredibly glad for this experience and it has literally changed my life.

My brother and I are truly a testament to the efficacy of IR’s program. Prior to joining IR, we’ve tried 24 Hr Fitness, LA Fitness, DVD programs, but nothing stuck! From each year’s New Year’s resolution to the next, I haven’t truly worked out for over 10 years. We have now attended for about 2 full months (everyday, 6 days a week!) This is well over the 3 days max I’ve consecutively worked out for prior.

IR provides an experience that neither a gym nor DVD program offers. The atmosphere is fun and energetic. The coaches are friendly, knowledgeable, encouraging, and pushes you just the right amount. The work out programs are well designed and vary enough so that you won’t get bored and you’re constantly challenged. This program, being a group class, is precisely why I feel more motivated to keep up. I don’t want to be the slowest or the weakest. Without peers, I would not be pushing myself. That said, it’s never a competition and you’re always encouraged to go at your own pace. I am definitely inspired to keep up with the EFFORT; not so much with the mass of weights, reps, or speed. The coaches focus on your form so that your work-out is of good quality, rather than sheer number of reps of poor form.

Both my brother and I have noticed differences in ourselves after the first week. I now have more energy, my mood has improved, even my complexion is better! After the first month, I now have family members telling me how my belly is already noticeably smaller.

What makes IR different is its family culture and it’s positive mental attitude. Now, both of us are into our third month and looking forward to continually improving ourselves. I cannot say enough good things about IR!

This young lady’s dedication, persistence, and strength is beyond compare. The Innovative Results Team cannot wait to see what is in store for Emily’s future, and athletic career!

Here is Emily’s Testimonial Interview given by Manny Aragon(MA) for Innovative Results.

MA: When did you start coming to Innovative Results (IR)?

Emily: Last year when I got my license.

MA: 2016?

Emily: Yeah.

MA: Why did you start training here (at IR)?

Emily: Because my dad went and he explained the workouts and I thought it looked fun. So I came. I did try it out before 2016 with my dad.

MA: What would you say has changed in your life from your training?

Emily: My endurance. And all around strength.

MA: So- what does that look like? You play sports- correct?

Emily: Yes. In Lacrosse I notice a difference in my endurance- in keeping up in the game.

MA: So what position do you play? Attack? image3

Emily: Yes. Attack. I’m staying in longer, I don’t get tired as easily and I don’t need as many breaks as I used to. (Ed. Note: Attack is a strength endurance position requiring bursts of explosive speed and power). My leg muscles keep me powering through.

MA: And what’s kept you coming back?

Emily: I like all of the trainers- they’re fun and its not boring workouts- I’m not, I’m not DREADING the workout, its FUN!

MA: How has IR contributed to success in other parts of your life?

Emily: Ummm Its kept me MOTIVATED. My dad and I always use the #IRstrong saying whether its homework im doing- My dad always says “IR strong Emily- you can do it”– and I say “Yeah, I CAN do it!” (laughs) “Yeah.”

MA: What advice would you have for someone who is new here?

Emily: Don’t be scared that you can’t do something- there is always modifications. And its not embarrassing if you’re not as strong as other people.

MA: Who would you want to experience what you’ve experienced here at IR?

Emily: My sister. She wants to start coming here. And I want her to experience what I’ve experienced.

MA: What do you think she’ll get out of it?

Emily: People skills. Being with people who you’re not normally with. I’m never with old people- so now I’m like used to it…

MA: Why do you stay committed to IR?

Emily: Because I look good. I’ve gotten toned- I like it.

MA: Have other people noticed?

Emily: Um-Hmm.

MA: In what way? Positive?

Emily: Yes. Positive.

MA: Anything else to add?

Emily: (pointing at the camera) “I LOVE Innovative Results!”

How did you hear about Innovative Results?
I was referred to Innovative Results by my Sports Med doctor who told me he had heard very good things about the work being done there. I needed a workout regime that supported my pole vault agility and strength development and he thought you guys could do that.

What about Innovative Results interested you in coming in?  

KenStCyr_vaultWhen I first visited and talked with the staff I was impressed with the knowledge and understanding of my needs.

Why did you decide to step into the gym?
Same as the above comment.

What was your first reaction once you entered the gym?
The workouts with Dane were dynamic and not simply machine strength training. I was moving and exercising muscles that clearly supported my desire to improve my pole vaulting strength and mobility. It was clear the staff, Dane specifically, had done their research on pole vaulting and knew how to get the best out of me.

What was one thing you like about Innovative Results that kept you coming back for more?
The complete focus on me and my needs. Dane spends every second watching, coaching, correcting and encouraging. Together we put together a long term game plan designed to peak at just the right time.

How has your vision of movement changed since you’ve started working out at Innovative Results?
Absolutely. I am more flexible, more toned and more competent as a 65 year old pole vaulter. That would not be possible without the effort put forth by Innovative Results and Dane.

How has Innovative Results helped your mindset in daily living? (at home, school, work, or in the community)
I generally feel in great shape, healthy and positive in my outlook. I attribute much of that to the results being achieved at IR.

What was the biggest obstacle (mental/structural/physical) you’ve crossed since starting at Innovative Results? 

KenStCyrI suffered a ruptured appendix soon after joining IR. Three months later, after surgery and full recovery when I was able to begin working out again I was on a tight timeline to get prepared for several major competitions. Dane and IR were able to get me back in shape quickly by constantly working me as hard as possible without crossing the boundary to be injury prone.

How were you able to surpass your obstacle?
Due to the commitment of Dane and IR we had a training program that maximized my ability to regain strength and flexibility. I was fortune enough to win a Bronze Medal at the US National Senior Games in June and then subsequently win the USA Masters Games.. I also won a Silver Medal at the North and Central America Masters Championships in Toronto in August 2017. It was a team effort with IR all the way!

When/Why did you start training at IR?
In late 2015, I began searching for a new way of working out and getting in shape. Until that time, I had been a member at a national ‘mega-gym’ for years, however, it wasn’t very motivating, and I wasn’t getting any results. Then one day, I stumbled upon a short introduction video on IR, and I knew immediately this was the place for me. Days later, I had my first workout with IR and my life was changed for the better.

What have you improved since you started training at IR? 
Everything – strength, flexibility, aerobic capacity. Loss of nearly 20lbs. Back pain has been dramatically reduced.

Some metrics that I have achieved: 70 feet on the versa-climber in 10 seconds, 43 push ups in 1 minute, 3 minute straight arm plank.

How has IR improved other areas of my life?
Inspired to be more active with my life, and be more active outdoors – recently, hiked to the summit of Saddleback Mountain, the highest point in Orange County.

I sleep better and the workouts help reduce stress levels.

Why do you stay committed to your improvement in and out of the gym?
In the words of Dylan Thomas, “Do not go gently into that good night – old age should burn and rave at close of day.” While I don’t think I’m old yet, IR workouts help keep me feeling young, and help keep the effects of time and age at bay.

What brought you to Innovative Results?

I came to Innovative Results after googling the best gyms in my area and talking to Aaron Guyett in order to get in the best shape I could be before joining the Army.

What were your initial thoughts on the gym?

My initial thoughts on Innovative Results’ gym were that it isn’t your typical gym where you feel lost in the shuffle and go off on your own and do whatever you want. Innovative Results is a smaller gym that really focuses on encouraging everyone who is training there to give it their personal best effort while doing exercises that you wouldn’t normally see at a gym and of course they make sure you’re having fun while you workout!

After your first session what was something that stood out that kept you coming back for the next session? How about after the first month?

Something that stood out to me after my first session and still stands out to me are the Coaches. Everyone at Innovative Results is nothing but friendly and caring and it feels like a second family. The trainers are always asking how you are and really take the time to make sure you know how to do the exercises properly and are always motivating and pushing you to do nothing but your best with each rep.

What change or changes have you seen in yourself (mindset, movement, recovery, attitude, mentality, strength, wellness, etc) since you started at Innovative Results?

Both my family and myself have seen many personal changes since working out with the staff at Innovative Results. Not only are their improvements to my physical body but additionally to my mindset. I’m more motivated to do things, I’m stronger, faster, I have way more endurance than I did when I first started working out, and the biggest change I’ve seen in myself is my attitude. Going to Innovative Results has made me love to workout. I want to wake up early everyday and go on runs on the days I don’t go to the gym. I want to eat better and take care of my body and I want to push myself to do the best I can everyday.

What do you LOVE about Innovative Results! What keeps you consistent and focused for every session? 

I love how different Innovative Results is from every other gym out there! Every time I go to workout I’m always excited to see my trainers and learn what new workout routine I have. WHAT IS MOVEMENT

We have been living in a civilized society for thousands of years, and only up until recently have we seen a decline in of our populations physical abilities. There are few who have excelled at getting their body to its maximum ability and potential, but for the vast majority of the civilized world we have let our immediate environment take over causing physical evolutionary change.

It’s funny to think we live in a society that needs to count their steps in order to meet the suggested physical recommendations for daily exercise. Surrounding environments play a big factor in dictating a routine or habit. When living in a modern environment we feel the need to create things like the “10,000 step a day rule”. We also create modified movement facilities like weight gyms.

As a culture we have learned that in order for us to live in the modern world we need to take part in physical activity to up keep one’s health. Gyms and sports are a means to fun physical activity in hopes of improving oneself in dimensions of speed, agility, quickness, power, and strength.

GOOD MOVEMENT vs. BAD MOVEMENT
Are we creating healthy individuals or are we taking people farther from true healthy movement? With generalized and sport specific training we are developing the bodies abilities, but are we doing it correctly and safely? Doing a gym workout is believed to replace the physical activity that we’d normally take part in if we were still living in pre-modern times. Being in a gym setting is probably not the most ideal way to express excess energy but it works with our modern society and culture.

Sport specific and generalized training are great for personal development, they provide essential skills for mind and body awareness. It takes phenomenal strength and control to perform these types of activities. We can all agree that any type of body training is going to be beneficial compared to remaining stagnant. Education, discipline, and time are a few factors when looking at developing a healthy human body.

When training is done correctly it can be extremely beneficial as one takes part in their daily lifestyle. The more your mind and body are trained the better they will respond when called upon. It is important to train ‘’the right way” on a daily basis.
Movement in our daily life comprises of multiple movement patterns. When we get stuck in a repetitive day-to-day routine it’s hard for most of us to practice healthy movements. Our movements become repetitive and unhealthy becoming harmful to one’s health.

Healthy movements can be tough to identify with all the misconceptions out in today’s health industry. Stick to the basics and master them, this is key. Once you’ve owned the basics only then can you start doing all the fun and cool movements and workouts.

Healthy movement starts with where the movement takes place. Moving in all three planes of motion will allow your body to be optimally trained. Movement in the Sagittal (Forward-Back/Up-Down), Frontal (Left-Right), and Transverse (Rotation)planes of motion will put a halt to the day to day routine.
Moving correctly takes time and dedication to the basics. Learning to control you body through it’s proper movement patterns becomes essential for optimal human health.

Control has to be one of the most underlooked components to a healthy body. Proper stabilization and mobilization of your body needs to be addressed before performing SAQ, Power, Strength, and Endurance activities or workouts. Capabilities and abilities improve when mobilization and stabilization are performed on a daily basis.

With mobility and stability improving you will be setting yourself up for successful training protocol and workouts. Addressing strength, power, speed, agility, quickness, endurance, and aerobic capacity will be much easier. Focusing on how to train the correct energy pathway for the given workout will be the main concern instead of correcting bad form and posture.

SMART ACTIVE RECOVERY active stretching
Performing movements and workouts will place stresses on your body’s bones, joints, and soft tissues. We’d all like to go day-to-day without any aches and pains and by starting a recovery protocol you will help ensure a healthy body. Succeeding in your workouts are very important for one’s health, but paying attention to how you treat your body after a workout has huge implementations as will.

By doing multiple active recovery techniques your body will start to notice faster adaptations to the stresses placed on it. Placing an emphasis on how your body heals and regenerates itself post exercise is an important part of a great training protocol. Emphasis can be placed on two types of recovery; active and passive recovery.

Usually many different theories arise as to how to do recovery and what methods to use. When dealing with post exercise protocol, one of the first things that should be implemented is an active decompression. This can be considered to be a short jog or locomotion technique to help circulate blood flow in the body, thus improving overall recovery. Other types of active recovery are self myofascial releases along with tissue and joint decompression stretches.

Passive recovery is something that you do without exerting any effort like a hot/cold contrast bath, epsom salt bath, and massage or physical palpation. Passive recovery is commonly mistaken as “my recovery day” which consist of lying on the couch all day doing nothing at all (this is not what we want to do). Using proper passive recovery techniques can provide insights to body awareness and healing. By adding multiple recovery disciplines into your daily workout progression you are supercharging your bodies recovery cycle thus making you a healthier individual.

Add up all the smart movement strategies and start to implement them into your daily regime. If you are still unsure about how to apply there techniques into a fitness program please don’t hesitate to visit a local “smart gym”. Make sure that they go through proper programming and recovery in their day to day progressions.

It’s time to get out there and make your own medicine out of movement.

My job means I travel every week and don’t exercise or eat well, this was a life decision to change both my diet and exercise regime to fix this issue

The trainers are great they make the sessions challenging but fun and their focus on form keeps you safe, I did crossfire before and constantly got injured because of the lack of focus on form so this is important

Keep at it, I have been to other gyms but nowhere has achieved the results I have seen at IR

I have more energy for all aspects of my life and am just generally happier, the only down side is none of my jeans fit anymore;-)

When was the last time you heard laughter and squeals of delight at the gym? And not from the mouths of babes at the daycare section? At Costa Mesa’s Innovative Results The Fitness Playground, fun is always to be expected from a workout session. Having a sense of play is built in to training sessions. Whether it’s simulating knife fights with DIY foam weapons, dribbling soccer balls inside a magic square, or bouldering on the newly erected rock climbing wall, no workout is ever a bore.

What makes these exciting exercises even more enjoyable is the people who are doing them with you. With a close-knit, team-like atmosphere during group training sessions, clients are improving their health and enjoying it in the process. Innovative Results intends to continue its growing legacy with a new owner who himself has been a long-time client: Harrel Carman. Under his leadership, Carman wants more of everything that makes Innovative Results the beloved household name in Orange County fitness.

Harrel Carman: Dedicated to More

Innovative Results’ new owner, Harrel Carman, is much like Los Angeles’ Angels of Anaheim Coach, Mike Scioscia. Scioscia had a successful career as a catcher for the Dodgers. He parlayed his experience and expertise into coaching the Angels. Much like Scioscia, Carman’s path towards being Innovative Results’ new owner has been paved with dedication to sports and athleticism, and building and improving relationships.

Carman has long been passionate about physical fitness. He has competed in Baseball, Football, Basketball, Tennis, and Track & Field. He still plays Basketball most Saturday mornings and has been playing in Flag Football tournaments with the same team for over 15 years. Carman also regularly competes in Kettlebell Sport events and has won many medals lifting the 32kg kettlebell in the Men’s 85kg bodyweight division. Such an admirable commitment to physical health is actually grounded in a promise to others. Carman says, “Since I was young, maybe around 5 or 6 years old, I decided to begin working for my ‘future family.’ My dedication to my own health and fitness is my dedication to the family I have now, as well as when my family begins to grow (no kids yet, but eventually). I want to enjoy my kids, be able to play with them. Be able to roll around on the ground and play with my grandkids even. I want to be an example, through my own dedications, to my family, friends, and community.”

His active lifestyle is further complemented by a background in personal training, one that Carman has continued to expand over the last ten years. He has completed certifications in NASM, Functional Range Conditioning, Onnit Battle Ropes and Steel Clubs, Orange Kettlebell Club, SCUBA, and CPR. Carman’s favorite aspect of personal training was “how I got to interact with other people. Helping them learn more about themselves and the strength they have inside them.”

This knack for building people up has been a key component in Carman’s success in business. He has managed and run several businesses ranging from a financial company, to construction, to the Kumon tutoring center that he owns with his wife, Julianne. “I’ve found team-building to be the most important aspect of having a successful business,” asserts Carman. “Describing the ‘perfect’ team isn’t possible for me, since every business’ needs are different. However, the team currently at Innovative Results was a big factor in my decision to purchase the business. Without this incredible team, I don’t think I’d have been interested. I’m so excited to become a part of this awesome team and to bring even more energy and enthusiasm to continue Innovative Results’ vision moving forward.”

Continuing to Transform: A Better Quality of Life for Everyone

In the ten years that Harrel Carman has been a client of Innovative Results, he has seen the positive influence that Orange County’s Fitness Playground has had on its members and the surrounding community. He says, “I love the passion that’s brought every day and the dedication that Innovative Results coaches show to our clients!”. Innovative Results’ mission is: “Improve quality of life through diligent change and growth, dedication to the basics, and service to our community.” Former owner Aaron Guyett built a solid coaching team that is enthusiastic and genuine about making an impact on each and every person that walks through Innovative Results’ doors. Numerous client reviews on social media attest to incredible transformations in physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Each Innovative Results trainer truly embodies the coveted title emblazoned on the back of their black and gray shirts: coach. Aubrie Pohl and Dane Fernandez are two coaches who are there for clients at any point in their journey towards wellness, whether it be providing a modification or giving encouragement during a workout, or answering nutrition questions outside of the gym.

Carman is eager for what lies ahead. “My current vision for Innovative Results is to keep it moving in the same direction it has been over the years. I don’t have any visions of making drastic changes.” Carman elaborates: “It’s why I’m so excited for this opportunity. The current culture is so freaking fun, why change it? The only thing I really want to do, is take everything that Innovative Results is and make it more. More opportunities for our coaches to learn/grow, more tools for our clients to reach their goals, more more more! I hope through our commitment to bettering the lives of our clients, we can reach more and more of those in our community to do the same.”

Innovative Results sends 8 athletes to the 2017 WAKSC Kettlebell Sport Lifting World Championship

With over 300 competitors, represented by 36+ Sport Clubs and 20+ countries, the 2017 WAKSC Kettlebell Sport Lifting Championship has scaled to the top of the list to become the world’s largest Kettlebell Sport event to date.

These competitors have much to be proud of after this years’ incredible event, but it’s time for Innovative Results to play the “proud parent” role.

Eight members of the Innovative Results Kettlebell Team claimed impressive hard-ware at the 2017 Cali Open/WAKSC Championships – showing the WORLD just what the Innovative Results Family is made of!

Seven of the eight lifters competed in all three 10 minute Kettlebell Sport events – Jerk, Snatch, and Long Cycle. If you are unfamiliar with Kettlebell Sport, let us just say,this is UNBELIEVABLY AWESOME!!
