Fitness Motivation Is About More Than Physical Results, Just Ask Jeff!

October 6, 2017 by Jessica 6 Comments

JeffSchofieldToday Innovative Results is stoked to highlight soccer stud, and director of the LA Galaxy South Bay College Prep Program for girls, Jeff Schofield!

When did you start training at Innovative Results?
I started in November of 2014

Why did you start training with Innovative Results?
I started training there because I was looking for something different than running and going to the gym on my own. Being a former collegiate athlete I missed the intensity of workouts, energy of exercising with other like-minded people, and motivation of coach/trainer. I chose Innovative Results because it worked perfectly with my schedule. I teach during the day and then am a soccer coach at night so I needed something early afternoon and their large number of class times worked well for me.

What have you improved since you started training with Innovative Results?
Of course, I have improved many physical aspects such as speed, strength, increased core strength, lower body fat, and my clothes fit better. It also improved many aspects of my life in addition to the physical. I enjoyed setting goals and working hard to attain them. I enjoyed the relationships I built with the other clients and trainers. I improved my self-image and confidence.

What kept you coming back to Innovative Results?
It is a competitive and motivating environment that includes unique exercises that are very functional for everyday life. I also enjoy that you do a certain set of exercises for 3 weeks, which allows you to set goals for that period and try to improve at those exercises before they change it for the next set of 3 weeks.

How has Innovative Results improved the other areas of your life (i.e. work, relationships, finances, education)?
I have mainly used the knowledge and exercise for my job in coaching soccer and as a PE teacher. There are so many ways to strengthen and increase mobility and flexibility using just body weight and I have adapted a lot of what I do at IR to my teams and classes. This last year I started at a new school and their percent of students that pass the Physical Fitness Test was 44%. I did a lot of exercises that I use at IR to help them improve. For students, they need a variety of exercises to prepare for the test not just the same push ups, sit-ups, mile run, etc. As a result, my students passed at a 73% rate. I credit IR for providing me the tools to help my students.

What advice do you have for someone who is just getting started with Innovative Results?
It is going to be challenging at first. You will be sore and some of the exercises you won’t quite get immediately, but have an open mind and stay with it. Before you know it, you will be one of the regulars that is encouraging the new people.

How has your life changed since you started training at Innovative Results?
I feel better physically which improves all aspects of life. I used to wake up in the morning and was in pain as I would get out of bed. That pain is gone and I am able to play soccer more consistently without being sore or in pain.

Who would you want to experience what you get to experience at Innovative Results?
I think anybody that is looking to improve their health should come and be a part of IR. There is every kind of client there from teenagers, elite athletes, former athletes, to injured clients. The workouts can be adapted for you to make it challenging for everyone and to get out of it what you want.

Why do you stay committed to your improvement in and out of the gym?
I realize that life is much more enjoyable when you are pain free and mentally it is good to challenge yourself.

Can you relate to Jeff’s story? We’d love to hear from you!

All Confidence and Smiles, Mikki is Down 23lbs & 2 Dress Sizes

January 29, 2015 by IR Staff 1 Comment

This is one AWESOME story from one of our many tough, hard-working Innovative Results mothers!

January 14, 2015

mikkiIf I can make a difference for at least one person who has a similar story, and is considering making a lifestyle change, then I would like to share my story.

While it might seem to some a little dramatic if I said that Innovative Results saved me, but in truth, it did just that.

In August of 2014, I was a 49 year old woman fast approaching her 50th birthday. My youngest daughter was leaving home for college, and as happens to so many women at this time of life, my husband asked me for a divorce. Plus, a very good friend my age was diagnosed with ALS, and her health was deteriorating quickly. To put it mildly, I was overwhelmed and life seemed to be spinning out of control. Oh, of course, I was 40 pounds overweight and having knee problems. It was time to ante up. Get with the program, etc, etc. These were all game changers for me and I wanted to get through the next 50 years as healthy and happy as possible.

I hadn’t always been 40 pounds overweight. I have a thyroid disorder which slows down metabolism. I was a typical yo-yo carb eater – get back on the wagon and eat no carbs dieter for years, and would exercise, lose weight, and then stop, then gain the weight back, etc. You know the story. I had belonged to a big box gym for many years, but used it only occasionally, as I preferred to run outside or take occasional Pilates classes. This time, though, I was in it to win it. A complete overhaul and lifestyle change was in order. I wanted to accomplish something for me. Since my knee was bothering me and I could no longer run, I wanted to try something different and really wanted a personal trainer. I did some research, saw the great reviews and made an appointment with Innovative Results. I remember being so scared to make the call. I was afraid I’d look like an idiot. I was old and overweight. I was afraid I would fail. I was prepared to turn my health around though, and I made the call.

Mark Elmasry was the trainer who answered the phone. I told him I had an issue with my knee and was looking for somewhere to work out that could provide specific exercises for me. He was so nice and knowledgeable over the phone. I immediately made an appointment to see him. I was met by Mark and co-owner Corey Beasley, who both listened to my health issues/knee problem and walked me through a series of stretches and exercises that would build muscle in my legs to support my knees. I had their full attention for the whole hour, and both of them were very knowledgeable. They never made anything seem out of reach. They sealed the deal. I was a new member of Innovative Results. For my first week, Mark and Corey worked on my imbalances and stretched and rolled out my legs. I never knew stretching and rolling out a muscle could make me sweat so much. During my second week, I began the Innovative Results classes. After a week of private sessions with Mark and or Corey, I was a little disappointed that I would now be in a group setting. But, this is where it gets good! No matter how many people are in the class, trainers Mark and Corey ALWAYS pay attention to what each and every one of their clients are doing. They correct us if we are performing exercises wrong and they praise us when we are doing it right. They make us work hard. No, let me say it like this. They make us WANT to work hard. Many times both trainers have modified the exercises for my knee without me asking. They do this for others as well. I want to reiterate this fact: They are ALWAYS paying attention, even when they are messing around, which is often. They are both silly. And I hope I don’t offend anyone by saying it. They are silly in a good way! And it is one of the reasons I love IR and my trainers. They are all educated about what they are teaching us. They continually challenge us to do our best, but they have fun doing it, and it crosses over to the clients. We all have fun sweating and grunting during our workouts. That is why we return day after day to this amazing playground.

On a side note, I would like to mention the other co-owner, Aaron Guyett, and IR Coach Mason and IR Intern Madison. I don’t have the pleasure of training with Aaron and Mason very often, as they are morning trainers. However, I have had a few occasions where I was able to train with them. They are both awesome too, and of course, equally as challenging and just as fun as the night crew. Madison is also an intern and assists with the training at night. She is also fun and knowledgeable and ready to step in for the trainers when asked. As are all the interns that assist at IR. Let me not forget Jessica who works the front desk during the day. She is always a pleasure to talk with and offers a friendly face upon entering. There is also Lewis who works the desk at night. He too is kind and friendly and is always cleaning something. IR is very clean. 

So, did I leave anything out? Well, one thing. I know I said they were all nice. But did I mention that they are all REALLY nice? Upon entering IR, no matter where the trainers are in the room, or who they are with, they will give you a welcoming shout out. If they miss you on your way in, they will acknowledge you by name when you lay your keys down or begin your stretches. They make their clients feel welcomed.mikki_2

I had been waiting to write my story and give IR the shout out they deserve when I could say that I lost the 40 pounds I had acquired during 2014. But in all fairness to IR, I couldn’t wait any longer. They are just too good and need to be recognized! I haven’t lost the full 40 pounds, but I have lost 23 pounds, and many inches. I’ve also gained muscle which takes up less space than fat and I have shrunk at least two dress sizes. So, I didn’t lose all the weight yet, but I gained back the self esteem that disappeared with my weight gain, and so much more. I feel connected to the people I’ve met at IR, as we are all in this journey together. I feel ready to battle all that life has to bring! By the way, I haven’t lost my fear of failing, but that’s what keeps me getting up and going back every day, for I know if I continue to try, I can’t fail.

THANK YOU TEAM IR! I LOVE YOU ALL. XOXO.

Mikki Tiberghien

Lu’s Getting Back to the Work She LOVES with Confidence

It’s easy to make a buck.  It’s a lot tougher to make a difference. – Tom Brokaw

What would you change, do or give to improve the quality of someone’s life?  What about your own life?

The IR Family recently received this incredible story from one of our very own members.  Truly remarkable!

I just wanted to tell you how grateful I am that you had responded so quickly as I was in such dire need of help, more than I understood and more than I had realized.

It is amazing to me that just a little push in the right direction in the way of exercise could change so much in a person’s life.

Our paths had only crossed briefly at the gym so there is no way that you could know the difference that IR has made in my life. You could not have known the person that I was before PTSD, then postpartum depression. Those experiences had taken an athletic and energetic sun-loving soccer freak and confined me to a life quiet chaos. I gave up a life of shooting for NatGeo in rough terrain and dangerous locales and had been content sitting behind a desk to schedule/fuss over production budget/package media kits and watching other people take the helm and process all the amazing images and footage they compiled because I no longer had the physical ability, stamina, and desire to do what I once loved doing. I leave this month on my first assignment in 3 years and because of IR, I do it with a smirk.

Thank you for guys for changing my life. I look forward so much to seeing those sweaty, grunting, laughing faces every week.

Thank you for giving me back my quality of life. Thank you for, most definitely, saving my life.

– Lu, IR Family since May 2014

Bullet Proof your Confidence

March 7, 2010 by ptpt 4 Comments

Confidence is king!

Whether you are an athlete, real estate broker, fireman or a weekend warrior looking to drop 10 lbs.  Confidence will make or break you.  I see people struggle with this everyday and it affects every aspect of your life, but today I’m going to talk about how it affects your workouts and the results you get from your efforts.

Confidence comes from a belief in yourself.

If you’ve kicked ass in the past, you were probably chasing something (title, stepping on stage, photo shoot, etc) or you were motivated into action for another reason.  The point here is that the people that kick butt and make things happen usually have a clear, emotional reason to show up.

Did you participate in sports, plays or other groups growing up? If you competed or performed at a high level, the requirements aren’t easy or convenient.  Long hours of practice, performances, tournaments, early mornings, late nights and everything else that’s involved were probably not always what you felt like doing, right?  It wasn’t convenient, but it was important to do well.

The fact of the matter was that you had a coach to hold you accountable and a team or group of people that you respected and were counting on you.  So how does this apply to your life today?

I see hundred of people say that they want to look and feel better, but they don’t have weekly games or performances.  There is no state tournament or local community that is counting on their performance at the big game!  Most people don’t have a support team that is there for them during their ups and downs.  Most adults are less committed to their goals than a high school athlete, but it doesn’t have to be that way!

The reason people lack confidence and never achieve their goals is because they have “tried to do it before” and did not succeed for whatever reason.  Either they didn’t set goals, didn’t have support or they didn’t have the correct guidance to ensure their success.

Have you ever been a part of a winning team or in a room or arena with a winning team?  It may have been in athletics, business, church or other group.  If you’ve been around a winning team, you know what I’m talking about.  The energy is contagious and effects everyone that gets around that team.

Do you remember what it feels like?

Did it inspire you to be better?

In order to build your confidence, you need to make success a habit.  A big goal is important, but sometimes scary and overwhelming.  Break your goals down into bite size pieces that you can accomplish daily or weekly.

Doing it all by yourself is tough, so we need to surround ourselves with like minded people.  Find a local team, group or company that can help support you on your journey

We all need a coach or someone with experience and expertise helping people achieve great things.  You can’t get good advise from someone that lacks experience, period.

So, do you want to bullet proof your confidence?

Then set some goals, find a support team and determine who can guide you along the way.  Open yourself up and do something that moves you.  Then stick with it and be willing to do whatever it takes to achieve that goal.  Wake up early, stay late, practice hard, stay consistent and you will become increasingly confident.  It works every time, you just have to be consistent and persistent long enough to reap the benefits of your labor.

An olympic athlete isn’t born overnight. They sacrifice years of their life, practicing and fine tuning their skills.

A successful business man isn’t born savvy, experienced and full of knowledge about their industry.  They study, work, adapt, learn, change, travel and stress for years to earn their rewards.

Every successful person sacrifices time, energy and usually money to become confident in their craft.

I know you can do it, all you have to do is start and don’t ever quit!

Is it always easy, no.  But if its important enough, you will do everything necessary to improve every week, get better, become more efficient and make consistent progress until your goal is achieved.

Say it with me “I can do it, I will do it and nothing can stop me along the way!”
