Noel is Down 17lbs & Headed to USMC Boot Camp

May 29, 2015 by Jessica Leave a Comment

noeldecember

Hello everyone, my name is Noel Jimenez, and I am 23 years old.

My journey at Innovative Results began back in October 23, 2014. I was first told about OC’s Fitness Playground by my recruiter. The recruiter had one of his enlistees attending Innovative Results and making really great changes and improvements through IR’s Training, and as a result; went to boot camp and is now a Marine in the United States Marine Corps.

At the time I was ok with just working out and using a treadmill/elliptical for my every day workouts at LA Fitness. I was no longer losing any weight and had plateau at192 pounds. I honestly didn’t believe I could drop, and reach my recommended weight of 165 to enlist and continue further. That first day at Innovative Results taught me one thing about myself; even though I had thought I had strength and mobility, I was wrong. All it took was the warm up of the workout to know just how weak I really was. I could not believe it, but continued to do the best I could.

As the workout progressed, not only did I struggle, but I had really bad form when executing movements. It was within that same workout that the coaches (Mark and Corey) kept checking on me to see if I was alright, and I was. During my first two workouts I got to talk a little more with Corey Beasley and Mark Elmasry about my goal for training at Innovative Results. Letting them know that I must drop weight to continue my enlistment; they told me I would have to talk to Aaron Guyett about setting a diet plan. Aaron Guyett is a Staff Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. Knowing that, I knew there would be challenges to come.

noelagal

I first met him(Aaron Guyett) on October 27, 2014. After that workout, I had a long talk about what was expected of me in order to succeed. One of those changes was a diet with absolutely no soft drinks or heavy sugars, strictly water. As well as no regular rice, tortillas, red meats, pork, and food made at home. It was a really rough start for me to give that all up and replace it with the “healthy stuff”. On top of that I was given a schedule to keep up with, if I wanted to get the best results. I had to do sprints known as 400’s(quarter mile sprints) on Tuesdays. Starting at 4 laps and every week it went up one more lap until I got to 12 laps and then reset back to 4. Every lap had to be timed, and that same time was the amount of rest I had to take in order to do the next lap. On Thursdays I would be at the USMC recruiting center to train with our recruiters, and on Saturdays every other week it would be a mile run that was to increase one more mile every other week until I hit 8 miles and the same went for a hike with weight(done on the week after the mile runs), increasing from 20-40 pounds once I got comfortable enough to go up in weight. On Monday, Wednesday, Friday I would be training at Innovative Results.noeljoshspiritrun

At first each lap on the 400’s would vary from 1:53 and up(no more than 2:05), a really slow time. My first mile run came in at 11:10 a slow time. Running/sprinting was one of my biggest challenges; I was never the type of person to go out, run or be active. From November to December, getting use to the diet and work out regiment was a bit too hard on me, but I kept my mind on why I must tough it out and continue moving forward. One of those ideas I kept in mind was if I’m not able to hack it, how would I ever hope to drop the weight and gain speed and strength. Towards the end of running miles or doing sprints I would be out of breath, but I continued to push myself through the pain knowing that it would benefit me in the long run.

Towards the halfway point of December I had just gotten use to the whole diet and workout regiments and lost ten pounds in two months. It definitely was helping, and I went from 192 to 182 in those two months at Innovative Results. As I continued to see improvement and major results I decided to go to Innovative Results Monday through Fridays from January to now (May 2015), while still doing the sprint and running regiment. By this time my body and aerobic capacity had gotten up to the point where I was able to do the sprints/runs after a workout at Innovative Results.

From late December 2014 to late February 2015; I did not go to the recruiting center to train with the recruiters, but continued to let my recruiter know that I am still in the game and have not given up; just bettering myself. Within that time frame I continued to do my workouts and sprints. Getting better at mobility, strength and speed. When I returned to the recruiting center in mid February (still as a guest) it had been close to three months since my last visit. I was just curious to see how running/sprinting, hiking, and Innovative Results had helped me.

It was no surprise, my first day back was a run uphill and downhill in Anaheim Hills; everything had improved a lot. Running/sprinting had given me more speed. Hiking had given me the leg power to go up and down the hills with ease. Innovative Results had helped me come down from 182 to 165, as well improve my mobility and strength to take on the exercises and plyometrics that were in store for those two hours of training. Not only did we do that hill up and down once, we took it on again and I was still fine. As a guest, I was able to keep up with the Marine Poolees and be right behind them. I’m not one to brag, but being one of few that was breathing calmly to others who were out of breath; I felt really great about myself. It was a great Thursday and only got better, my recruiter had asked me if I was ready to take the ASVAB, and the physical to follow; my heart raced, and I said Yes!

Knowing that I have been working so hard and continue to work hard to this day, I swore in on March 2, 2015 and was given my boot camp date of May 11, noelmarine2015. Two to three weeks after swearing in I had asked Aaron if there is anything I could do to better improve my strength and conditioning for boot camp and with just five weeks left he had given me an all new regiment. I stopped going to Innovative Results on Thursdays to attend PT at the recruiting center and Tuesdays became my mile split days and they always worked around three miles to improve my three mile run time for boot camp, but for Thursdays I had switched over to doing 400’s before going to PT. On Saturdays I still did my hikes, no longer doing the mile runs anymore because I have built up my aerobic capacity to run up to 8 miles. In addition to that I was also given a five set workout for Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at the end of every Innovative Results workout. At first it started off somewhat easy five sets of 6 pull ups, 12 push ups, and 24 crunches. As every week came by for the remaining weeks they increased in reps, and two days ago I finished my last of the progression sets: five sets of 13 pull ups, 26 push ups, and 52 crunches; toughest to pull off, and took almost an hour to finish.

All this self driven determination and help from all the wonderful coaches at Innovative Results, has helped me get to where I am today. From not being able to complete one pull up, barely finishing a mile; I now know that I can run my mile in 6:30(not 11:10), from no pull ups to being able to do 13 pull ups and an increased mobility and flexibility far better than when I first walked into Innovative Results. Thank you Nick, Mason, Corey, Mark, Aaron for all your coaching to getting me this far. Mark and Corey thank you for helping me when I had mobility issues and helping heal it. Thank you Aaron most of all for being the biggest motivator to helping improve my speed and strength. From sprinting 400’s in 1:53 to 1:08~1:14. To running miles under seven minutes. No amount of thanks could ever own up to how grateful I am for all the hard work and inspiration you have all given me. In boot camp I will continue to make “my next one, my BEST ONE!!!” Thank you!!!

All Confidence and Smiles, Mikki is Down 23lbs & 2 Dress Sizes

January 29, 2015 by IR Staff 1 Comment

This is one AWESOME story from one of our many tough, hard-working Innovative Results mothers!

January 14, 2015

mikkiIf I can make a difference for at least one person who has a similar story, and is considering making a lifestyle change, then I would like to share my story.

While it might seem to some a little dramatic if I said that Innovative Results saved me, but in truth, it did just that.

In August of 2014, I was a 49 year old woman fast approaching her 50th birthday. My youngest daughter was leaving home for college, and as happens to so many women at this time of life, my husband asked me for a divorce. Plus, a very good friend my age was diagnosed with ALS, and her health was deteriorating quickly. To put it mildly, I was overwhelmed and life seemed to be spinning out of control. Oh, of course, I was 40 pounds overweight and having knee problems. It was time to ante up. Get with the program, etc, etc. These were all game changers for me and I wanted to get through the next 50 years as healthy and happy as possible.

I hadn’t always been 40 pounds overweight. I have a thyroid disorder which slows down metabolism. I was a typical yo-yo carb eater – get back on the wagon and eat no carbs dieter for years, and would exercise, lose weight, and then stop, then gain the weight back, etc. You know the story. I had belonged to a big box gym for many years, but used it only occasionally, as I preferred to run outside or take occasional Pilates classes. This time, though, I was in it to win it. A complete overhaul and lifestyle change was in order. I wanted to accomplish something for me. Since my knee was bothering me and I could no longer run, I wanted to try something different and really wanted a personal trainer. I did some research, saw the great reviews and made an appointment with Innovative Results. I remember being so scared to make the call. I was afraid I’d look like an idiot. I was old and overweight. I was afraid I would fail. I was prepared to turn my health around though, and I made the call.

Mark Elmasry was the trainer who answered the phone. I told him I had an issue with my knee and was looking for somewhere to work out that could provide specific exercises for me. He was so nice and knowledgeable over the phone. I immediately made an appointment to see him. I was met by Mark and co-owner Corey Beasley, who both listened to my health issues/knee problem and walked me through a series of stretches and exercises that would build muscle in my legs to support my knees. I had their full attention for the whole hour, and both of them were very knowledgeable. They never made anything seem out of reach. They sealed the deal. I was a new member of Innovative Results. For my first week, Mark and Corey worked on my imbalances and stretched and rolled out my legs. I never knew stretching and rolling out a muscle could make me sweat so much. During my second week, I began the Innovative Results classes. After a week of private sessions with Mark and or Corey, I was a little disappointed that I would now be in a group setting. But, this is where it gets good! No matter how many people are in the class, trainers Mark and Corey ALWAYS pay attention to what each and every one of their clients are doing. They correct us if we are performing exercises wrong and they praise us when we are doing it right. They make us work hard. No, let me say it like this. They make us WANT to work hard. Many times both trainers have modified the exercises for my knee without me asking. They do this for others as well. I want to reiterate this fact: They are ALWAYS paying attention, even when they are messing around, which is often. They are both silly. And I hope I don’t offend anyone by saying it. They are silly in a good way! And it is one of the reasons I love IR and my trainers. They are all educated about what they are teaching us. They continually challenge us to do our best, but they have fun doing it, and it crosses over to the clients. We all have fun sweating and grunting during our workouts. That is why we return day after day to this amazing playground.

On a side note, I would like to mention the other co-owner, Aaron Guyett, and IR Coach Mason and IR Intern Madison. I don’t have the pleasure of training with Aaron and Mason very often, as they are morning trainers. However, I have had a few occasions where I was able to train with them. They are both awesome too, and of course, equally as challenging and just as fun as the night crew. Madison is also an intern and assists with the training at night. She is also fun and knowledgeable and ready to step in for the trainers when asked. As are all the interns that assist at IR. Let me not forget Jessica who works the front desk during the day. She is always a pleasure to talk with and offers a friendly face upon entering. There is also Lewis who works the desk at night. He too is kind and friendly and is always cleaning something. IR is very clean. 

So, did I leave anything out? Well, one thing. I know I said they were all nice. But did I mention that they are all REALLY nice? Upon entering IR, no matter where the trainers are in the room, or who they are with, they will give you a welcoming shout out. If they miss you on your way in, they will acknowledge you by name when you lay your keys down or begin your stretches. They make their clients feel welcomed.mikki_2

I had been waiting to write my story and give IR the shout out they deserve when I could say that I lost the 40 pounds I had acquired during 2014. But in all fairness to IR, I couldn’t wait any longer. They are just too good and need to be recognized! I haven’t lost the full 40 pounds, but I have lost 23 pounds, and many inches. I’ve also gained muscle which takes up less space than fat and I have shrunk at least two dress sizes. So, I didn’t lose all the weight yet, but I gained back the self esteem that disappeared with my weight gain, and so much more. I feel connected to the people I’ve met at IR, as we are all in this journey together. I feel ready to battle all that life has to bring! By the way, I haven’t lost my fear of failing, but that’s what keeps me getting up and going back every day, for I know if I continue to try, I can’t fail.

THANK YOU TEAM IR! I LOVE YOU ALL. XOXO.

Mikki Tiberghien

Thank you for sharing your incredible story Mikki! You bring such an amazing energy to the IR Family, we look forward sharing in many more of your VICTORIES!

Laura Bounces Back from a Compound Fracture

November 22, 2013 by ptpt 1 Comment

laura whotaker ankle

In April 2013 I most unfortunately broke my right leg in three places during a long roller derby practice on the banked track. I have been lucky enough with dodging injuries, never so much a sprain or stitches… then I went and had this huge compound fracture. With a plate and 9 screws permanently holding me together, I was determined to heal quickly and not let it keep me down for long.

Most people go to physical therapy and they say with a break like mine, it can take up to a year to really get back the balance and range of motion. My doctor recommended for me just doing some stretching at home, no formal PT. Being a RN I knew what I needed to do, but it’s different since I’m on the patient side of things. After 4 months I started back at yoga to work on my balance and general strength. So much was lost in such a short amount of time, being in a cast for 6 weeks and a boot for another month after that. I thought I was doing great on my own, then my boyfriend suggested I go see Innovative Results’  Corey Beasley a few times a week to supplement my own routine.

His expertise was apparent at my first session, working 1 on 1 with me and giving me the tools I needed to test my abilities and then take it a step further. I didn’t realize how shoty my balance was at that point until he put me through some routines I never tried before.

The next time I was working out with the group, only doing the things I could do and what he felt was safe. As I looked around I noticed Corey and the other trainers knew everyone by name, they all understand why we are there and what we need to work on. I love the individual attention I have received, but I also have the need to be surrounded by others for encouragement to push harder.

I’ve been at Innovative Results with Corey and his team for 2 months now and I am amazed at the progress I have made in this short period of time.

My balance is significantly improved, I’m getting the strength training I can’t get with yoga, and I’m feeling over all better about myself. I never knew whipping around an enormous rope which looks like it came off the Jolly Roger could be so exhausting, challenging, and fun!

Help the IR Family Say Goodbye as Josh Begins a New Adventure!

October 23, 2013 by ptpt 4 Comments

Josh RugbyI am excited (and saddened) to celebrate the season Josh has spent with Innovative Results. I am excited because he has grown incredibly as a trainer, an athlete, a warrior, a man, and a brother.

He is an unforgettable piece forged into the legacy of Innovative Results.

I am saddened, because on November 10th–a special day for both of us (USMC B-day)–he will be stepping out on a new adventure. He

As you will see, we take care to see our family off in a loving and celebratory way, and we hope you can all join us as we give him a final goodbye these next few weeks.is called to his family of origin, and leaving his family here at Innovative Results (IR). We hope and pray it will be filled with the same celebrations, growth, and love that we all experienced from him while he walked out life with us at IR. Below he will describe in his own words what this place meant to him, and how much he cares for his clients, as he passes them to his beloved fellow trainers to continue their transformations.

– Aaron Guyett

A Letter from Josh Spencer:

Hey guys, so this has been a difficult decision for me to make, largely because Innovative Results has become such a great part of my life over the last two years. I am extremely grateful to Aaron and Corey for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to be a trainer here and to learn a ton of skills that I probably wouldn’t have cultivated anywhere else. The rest of the team has been amazing, even becoming some of the best friends I’ve ever had. As a transplant from a different state (via the Marine Corps) you have no idea how much it has personally meant to me to work with each and every one of you. It seriously brightens my day and has helped me adjust to civilian life more than taking any “normal” job ever could have. I love all of you guys and this adventure while working to help you achieve your goals has transformed me from being a stand-offish loner to becoming truly more open-hearted and compassionate for people everywhere.

However, the timing is right for me to move on to the next adventure. I feel a heavy burden to be near my family in Colorado, as some exciting things are happening for them. After 8 years of military service (with 7 of them being in California) I don’t want to wake up another 5, 7, or 10 years from now and realize that I never got a chance to serve the people that are the most important to me. I will be helping my dad and mom with their ministry, and helping my brothers achieve their career objectives as they launch separate but teamed-up media upstarts.

At the same time, I will be pursuing a Masters in Business Administration with the University of Colorado. Every single authority figure in my life, from my trainers, to my rugby coach, to my Battalion Commander have told me that now is the best time to pursue that education. I guess if I don’t listen to all that good advice then I’m not too bright!

Also, I will continue to hone my skills at rugby (there are two excellent teams in Denver, and I will hopefully be able to develop in one of their programs). I will also continue to find people to coach. I don’t know what that will look like specifically, maybe it will be a charity bootcamp through my church for my community, maybe it will be as an assistant rugby or strength coach at a college or high school, or maybe I will just take some youngin’s under my wing with some basic equipment. In any case coaching is in my blood, and you definitely haven’t seen the last of me yet 😉 Plus, I promise I’ll visit.

Oh, and by the way, I love you all and want to thank you for helping me become a better person, succeed at rugby, and enjoy a wonderful life while I was in California. Thank you.

The IR Team wishes you well Josh…IR Josh Epic

Your work ethic and enthusiasm while at IR has been contagious! When you came aboard and joined the team you helped us, (me especially) learn what it is to work and function as a team. Your discipline and dedication to IR was something I noticed immediately. You always seem to have a smile on your face and your non-stop positivity has definitely rubbed off on me and has really helped shape me into a better trainer. Believe it or not, working with you for these past few years has truly had a positive impact on me as a trainer and as a person…thank you for the time we have been able to spend with each other, it has been grand.

P.S. I will miss those super short shorts, almost midriff shirts, and pasty white legs the most.

-Eddie Thomson

Whenever he’s at the gym, the energy goes up, great encourager, motivator, teacher, and friend. Wherever in life his journey may take him I know that because of his endless drive to succeed and his happy and jovial attitude he will find success. I know that the relationships he’s made at IR will be lifelong and I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for this leader among men.

– Jeff DeRitter

#1, hands down the coolest thing about Josh is that we share the same birthday, which by default makes you AWESOME 🙂 More importantly I did recently read this quote by Henry Rollins…

“If you have an idea of what you want to do in your future, you must
go at it with almost monastic obsession, be it music, the ballet or just a
basic degree.

You have to go at it single-mindedly and let nothing get in your way.”

When Josh told me he was leaving and we discussed where his mind went in the last couple months while making this decision, reading this quote made me immediately think of him. Josh has the life and work attitude of “If its going to be done, its going to be done RIGHT” and that is incredibly motivating to see and have been a apart of since his arrival at IR. Thank you and Best Wishes for your future Josh!

– Jessica Ciske

Josh Cori Event Table

You’ve been my partner in crime since I started here. You took me under your wing and made me instantly feel welcome. I will miss you sooooo much. I will miss your crop tops and short shorts. I will miss our awkward dance parties and bad jokes. Training with you has been so much fun and I don’t think I’ll ever have a better training partner. I wish you the best of luck, but I know you won’t need it! 🙂

– Cori Lefkowith

If there is one person who can successfully train like batman it’s josh. Josh is extremely active and continues to improve his performance and this trait is also carried out in his job. Josh has brought in a number of clients that has helped expand IR and always gives his best. Great trainer and even greater friend. You will be missed.

– Lewis Van Der Wyrd

Josh is a tough marine that intimidated me in the beginning. Toughness and a strong character, the kind you only find in a strong and loyal dog. He reminds me of my pitbull Muggsy, except Josh has a goofiness unparalleled by any creature. Josh loves and will stay loyal to Innovative Results forever. Josh, your my dawg!

-Mark Elmasry

People have some incredible stories. We all grow up in different environments, with different beliefs and experience different things along the way. Josh brought a very straight forward, honest, well thought out, opinion to all of our meetings and training sessions. His experience in the military and intellectual thought processes helped improve IR’s service to the community. We are thankful for Josh’s input, time and friendship while he was with us and a look forward to staying up to date on all of his future adventures!
