Instead, every time you come in for your fitness training session you will be working with a knowledgeable member of the IR Training Team in a small group setting.

After many years in the fitness industry we’ve determined small groups settings to be the most advantageous for our clients for accountability and motivation.

Every body and their mom joins the local fitness gym, or starts attending fitness training for the first time since last January.

They have the best intentions on their focused faces, ready to tirelessly drive themselves to lose those stubborn pounds, ridding themselves of their “big” clothes for good.

They sweat, groan, push, and work themselves into a fervor, depriving themselves of pleasantries, drinks, and carbs, so they can earn that body that deftly evaded them last year.

In their dreams they can see the toned, sculpted muscles. They can feel the sleek, sexy physique. They can smell the sweetness (or should I say sweatiness) of victory. They pick out the outfits in their minds, and sometimes even online. They’re emotionally high on the visions of goals, girls, guys, greatness, or whatever finish-line dream they have conjured up.Ninja-Shadow-2

Gone like snow in summer, and where do they go?

Maybe there is a better question…WHY?

I will tell you, but you probably don’t want to believe me, because believing me, means you may have to do things differently this year (if you have quit your fitness goals and aspirations in the past).

Being in the fitness industry for over 15 years, and helping thousands of people last longer in their fitness goals and health improvements than the January fitness gym crowd, I have come to believe it takes more than a fitness goal or physical and mental

Consistency will have you feeling Lucky, Gifted or Talented

Over the past 15 years, there have been a few fitness gimmicks, new workout programs, celebrity diets and tons of other changes as the fitness industry evolved.  As a fitness professional, all of these new ideas can be overwhelming and distracting…I can understand why most people are confused about what they should do to reach their goals.  The good news is that I really think that I have found the ‘secret sauce’ for getting the results you desire from the gym.

Call em goals, aspirations, resolutions or whatever you want.

Fitness is absolutely no different than learning to play the piano, growing a business, making more sales, raising a child, maintaining a relationship or just about anything else.

Getting in shape takes a commitment, focus, hard work and a consistent effort over time.

Could a salesman make 5 phone calls and complain about not getting results?

Of course not…

Orange County FitnessHow many times does a mother correct her child in order to drive s point home?

Hundreds, sometimes thousands of times, right?

Getting results in the gym and living a healthy lifestyle is no different.

You’ll learn a lot about yourself, your body, what you like, what you don’t, overcome obstacles, make adjustments and continue to make progress toward your goals…if you are consistent.

Stay consistent for 6 months and you’ll not only change your own life, but you’ll start to positively influence the people around you.  Keep consistent for a year and people will call you lucky or gifted.  Develop better habits for a lifetime and you can change thousands of people’s lives by your example.

Warning:  It will NOT be easy, will take some time, a lot of effort, some nutritional changes and tweaks to your current habits. 

You WILL encounter obstacles like vacations, kids schedules, colds, traffic, lack of interest, etc.  These are called excuses and there are literally thousands.

The key is consistency.

Raising a child is not easy or convenient, but you make it work.

Building a business is a nightmare at times, but worth the risk and effort.

Developing healthier habits is tough, but the rewards are priceless!Collene race

Sure, some days are better than others, but all you have to do is show up.  Over time, your consistent effort will breed mental and physical momentum.  Waking up will be easier, you’ll have more energy, your attitude will improve, and people will start to notice things changing.   Sounds weird, but you will actually start looking forward to each workout and eating better quality foods will become a welcomed habit.

Believe me, consistency isn’t always easy, but it is the unspoken key to success.

Gym, Jog, Yoga, Pilates, Bootcamp, Personal Trainer, Strength Coach: Which Workout is Best for Me?

Some people run or bike outside.

Others do hours of ‘cardio’ at the local gym.

Then you have the weight lifting crowd that uses a lot of equipment to develop a better physique.

Which is best?

Well, that completely depends on your goals and how that activity stimulates your brain.

Think about it, do you really enjoy going to the gym?  Some do and they truly feel better when they leave.  Awesome.

I can’t stand regular corporate gyms.  Maybe its because I worked for so many years in that environment…or because I am not able to train the way I want to…either way I just don’t get a good workout in that type of place.

If you are a typical bodybuilder type lifter, you probably depend on that equipment to hit big lifts and focus on muscle hypertrophy.

If you are an athlete, then big gyms don’t usually hit all the pieces of the puzzle.  Athletes should not train like bodybuilders and need more space and benefit from a variety of other tools to reach their potential.  Big gyms don’t typically have sleds, sandbags, heavy ropes, and other tools that help build  athletic performance

Maybe you enjoy yoga or pilates classes.  If that’s your thing and you love the results, by all means get in there.

The key point here is this:  Determine your goals and find a place that supports those goals.

Here are some things to look for in a great activity or gym:

  1. Do you like the people?  Honestly, do you enjoy the people that you workout with?  Maybe you workout on your own, maybe classes, a bootcamp or with a trainer…but do the people encourage you and support you on your road to success?  If not, you need to find a better place.  The gym should feel like a community and you need to be a part of it.
  2. Are you inspired?  I have been in a lot of gyms…some big, some small.  Only a handful were inspiring.  I mean, when you walked in you could feel the energy.  A place where you literally wanted to workout and looked forward to every session.  Other people’s performance or energy can be contagious.  Get around people that inspire you…your results will go through the roof!
  3. Do you get RESULTS?  This is why you joined in the first place, right?  If you are just a member of a health club and DON’T get results, ask for help.  If you are in a bootcamp, take classes, watch videos or workout with a coach…and DON’T get results, you have to try something new or assess other areas of your life.

So, does it really matter where you workout?

NO

I know a lot of people that never set foot in the gym, but they are strong and healthy.  I have other friends that thrive in health clubs.

Just find a place that you love, with people that encourage you and help you reach the goals that motivated you to join in the first place.
