Alica Ryan takes on new challenges every day and not just at the IR Facility! Rain, Heat, and multiple mileage will not keep Alica out of the competition… because for her, THERE IS NO FINISH LINE!
Here is Alica’s Story:
First of all, as you may know now due to my music video; I work out! I work out at Innovative Results with Jeffrey DeRitter twice a week, but I also stay busy on my days and nights not at IR. I run, do yoga, spin, lift weights, or whatever Groupon offers that peeks my interest. I’m the type of person that when I miss a deadline for a race that I want to run, I will run 14 miles just so that I can prove to myself that I could have run that race plus some.
I have always been able to maintain an average weight, although on occasion my clothes feel a little tighter than usual. I was even a trainer at some point for a gym myself. During that time I was the proudest of my body that I had ever been. The problem though back then was that I didn’t know how to eat. I thought that a bowl of Honey Bunches of Oats and fat-free milk was a perfectly healthy meal to eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I was starving my body of essential nutrients, and not fueling my body properly for the trauma that I was putting it through. So like most good things, my body didn’t stay the way I wanted it to for very long.
When I started at Innovative Results, I have to admit that I didn’t think I would last there for very long. I had a bit of arrogance, thinking that I knew enough to get the results that I wanted on my own. With that in mind I only signed up for a month to month membership. Well one month has changed into almost 2 years, and without an ending in sight.
I still feel that I know enough about my body and working out to get the results that I want, but I don’t think that is where people fail. I think it takes more than just knowing what to do to get the job done; it takes support and motivation to help see you through to your end result.
Innovative Results, and especially Jeff, has seen more potential in me than I would have ever seen in myself. The way they push you, knowing that you are holding back, and knowing you have what it takes to get there. I have no problem with going out and pushing myself when it comes to running; running is my comfort zone. But to believe that I am capable of pushing a sled for an entire mile or encouraging me to beat my personal record with the Versa Climber are things that I could not have done without their support.
My body is what it is, and I am proud of how hard I have worked to earn it. My body has not only transformed in the 30 days of this challenge but has been transforming since I started at IR. I have muscle definition that was never there before, and the stamina to get me through some of the craziest and most intense workouts. My diet fuels my body for whatever is to come that day at IR, and doesn’t weigh or slow me down.
The transformation challenge (February 2012) was exactly that…a challenge to say the least. For some reason I was extremely anxious about it the entire time. The Versa Climber has become my nemesis, and although I didn’t defeat it today, it will still happen. My biggest challenge was getting over my own mental block. I end up selling my self short and then disappointed myself with the outcome. Having a trainer like Jeff, who encouraged me and gave me the tools to accomplish my goals, was priceless. Over the many workouts that I have had with him he has learned the areas in which I lack, and those are where he gives the helping hand. The fact that he knows what I am capable of and never lets me give up is what is so great about IR.
And if that wasn’t enough for this go-getter, Alica created a 365 Day Nutrition Blog – Pura Vida Nutrition
Congratulations on all your successes Alica!!
