Life Lessons Learned, “Literally every aspect of my life has improved by the lessons I have learned at Innovative Results,” Amanda Tells of Her Experience at The Orange County Fitness Playground

June 7, 2016 by IR Staff 2 Comments

kettlebell, kettlebell bolt, kettlebell bolt championships, california state kettlebell bolt championships, amanda clover, snatch, 8kgWhen Amanda started training with Innovative Results in 2009, I thought she was going to be one of those “flash-in-the-pan” clients…Here today, gone the next.

Wrong!

I was in for a life lesson!!

She has proven to be tougher, more focused, and more disciplined that I could have ever imagined.

She has also become an incredible friend and family supporter of the Guyett household.

My wife and I turn to her almost exclusively to care for our two daughters because of her character, ability to withstand almost any pain, and she is only grossed out by hugs from adults.

I wanted to see what made Amanda tick, and how she has been able to completely transform her body and mind over the last 7 years, so I asked her a few questions.

Read her story of transformation below:

Why did you start training with Innovative Results?

I started in July of 2009; 7 years total at Innovative Results

What have you improved since you started training with Innovative Results?

flipping a tire, strength, strong, stronger, innovative results gymMy overall strength has improved exponentially!

I can lift more, squat more, dead lift more.

Everything is stronger, faster, better!

I can flip tires, pull ropes, swing kettle bells….

What kept you coming back to Innovative Results?

The “family” aspect of Innovative Results is ubiquitous from the first day.

From the first workout until now, 7 years later, I felt/feel like part of the Innovative Results family.

There are no strangers at Innovative Results!Innovative Results, Innovative Results Gym, Innovative Results Family, Family workout, workout with family, group workouts

How has Innovative Results improved the other areas of your life (i.e. work, relationships, finances, education)?

Literally every aspect of my life has improved by the lessons I have learned at Innovative Results.

I used my “focused intensity” to earn my Master’s Degree and toward becoming debt free.

I have used “intestinal fortitude” to get through the emotions of a divorce and 4 moves in 12 months.

I picked myself up from some pretty dark places by keeping the “dig deep” and “next one, best one” mentalities.

I have forged life-long friendships, bled, sweated, cried, and celebrated victories (never mattered how small) with the life-lessons I’ve taken away from Innovative Results.

I even met the love of my life at Innovative Results!

What advice do you have for someone who is just getting started with battle ropes, workouts for women, women at Innovative Results, Innovative Results women, orange county fitness gym, fitness gym, orange county gymInnovative Results?

There is no judgement here!

If you can’t do 10 reps, do 2.

You are so much stronger than you think.

No one will be disappointed in anything you do as long as you’re trying.

Getting inside the door is the hardest part!

How has your life changed since you started training at Innovative Results?

My quality of life has gone through the roof.

I prioritize my life in ways that might be unconventional but it makes me happy.

Because of the people I have met at the gym–my home, church, personal, professional, and social lives have all changed for the better!

I am meeting people who have the same goals and its rewarding to know people who encourage and support your choices.

Who would you want to experience what you get to experience at Innovative Results?

Any person, any fitness level, any age!

Amanda Clover, Active Recovery, Innovative Results, Orange County Fitness Playground, Orange County yoga, yogaWhy do you stay committed to your improvement in and out of the gym?

I stay committed in the gym because its the hard thing to do.

Its easy to skip the gym one day because *fill in the blank*.

I stay committed out of the gym because its part of who I am now.

I do what I say and say what I do.

Lessons Learned at Innovative Results – The Orange County Fitness Playground

October 13, 2015 by Jessica Leave a Comment

yoga5By Aubrie Pohl

I’m strong.

I can stand on my hands and do more push-ups than most girls I know.

I can ride a bike for 100 miles and stretch my leg behind my head.

I have felt a fire smoldering within me my whole life.

One that has been yearning, fostering, and striving for a body that is capable of doing any physical task I come across.

I want to reach my greatest potential.

I’ve learned how to challenge my body in ways I’ve never dreamed of,

…but I’ve also learned something else.

My foundation was unstable.

I power through movements and use my shoulders and quads to overcompensate for the weaker muscles.

My right side is predominantly stronger than the left.

My push muscles are over trained while my pull muscles are barely trained.

I’m a yoga teacher and a personal fitness trainer.

I spend hours each week guiding others through the crucial foundational postures and movements.

I guide others to gain stability and mobility before they gain strength and power.

…. but I wasn’t listening to my own words.

My mind created a blurred concept of my own training program.

I was injuring myself.

My elbow, my wrist, my ankle… things were starting to ache.

I’ve tried so hard to accomplish fancy movements that I forgot about frequently performing the foundational movements.

I spent years lifting heavy weights but didn’t lift my ego out of its control.

So I reverted back to the basics.

I stopped trying to progress and regressed back to powerful, simple structural movements to create proper alignment, posture, and strength.

– STABILITY –2014-11-13 15.37.17-1

You wouldn’t build your house on an unstable foundation, so why build your body on one?

Exercise can be profoundly life-enhancing.

It is a very useful tool to filter your mind and attention towards achieving more success, happiness, and joy in your life.

However, it needs to be handled in a progressive manner.

A progression means to begin at the appropriate level that suites your present body and then steadily and safely advance once the body is ready.

For example, you wouldn’t want to perform an overhead lift if you are lacking the specific level of shoulder mobility to lift your arms over your head.

There are prerequisites that need to be met.

Stability and mobility first.

Find absolute acceptance where your body is presently at, and work through the freedom of the movement you have available.

Start with foundational movement patterns and develop coordination.

Make sure muscles are firing in the correct order.

Establish a functional range of motion and mobility.

Find complete stabilization and balance in those movements.

Learn basic postural support and spend the proper amount of time conditioning and strengthening the movement pattern.

– STRENGTH & POWER –core exercise - sidewinder

Once stability and mobility is achieved, the body is ready to stabilize a load and has the ability to work through force output.

Have a personal trainer assess you and scan your movement so you can safely progress to adding weight! (Hint: Innovative Results)

To quote Ice Cube, “Check yo’self before you wreck yo’self.”

Now the muscles have been trained to work together through the fascia and muscular chain.

You’ve created a strong, flexible structure that can now increase the power, the maximum force.

Your performance will steadily increase, without injury, because you created a stable foundation and followed a progression perfect for you.

As for me?

Well, I’m living proof of this lesson now.

My joints aren’t aching, the strength of my left side is quickly catching up, and I can now perform pull ups!

10 Lessons I learned from Running Big Red

July 31, 2012 by ptpt 17 Comments

I personally like short term goals.

Goals that are within your reach, but force you to work consistently for a few weeks to attain them.

To be honest, it is truly amazing how quickly your body can adapt and change, if you give your body the stimulus, rest and fuel it needs.

You can use this for focused bouts of weight loss, performance enhancement, strength gains and more.

Over the last few weeks, I got into running hills.  Walter Peyton, Jerry Rice and countless other athletes have used hill runs to develop incredible power and endurance, so I wanted to give it a shot.

Luckily, we live in Orange County and are surrounded by hills.  After searching around Newport, Laguna, Aliso, Orange and other communities, I fell in love with a hill called Big Red at Peter’s Canyon.  It is about 150 yards long (ish), dirt, and very steep.

The first time I ran it, about 6 weeks ago, I could only manage 4 intervals.  I typically run up, walk down and repeat.

After 4 runs, I was cooked.

My calves, thighs and butt were burning, my throat and lungs were on fire and Big Red had truly humbled me.

So, I decided that I wanted to run this hill more often and develop a level of strength and conditioning to run 10 intervals.

I’m not sure about you, but in order for me to focus, I need to make goals that are a little nerve racking.

I like workouts that make me a little nervous beforehand.

This doesn’t have to be the case for you, but it is how my brain operates.

I decided that I would run at least twice per week.  I planned on adding 1 interval per week, until I hit 10.

The first week, I was really into it.  Got my two runs in, felt a little sore, but I was excited about the new challenge.

As the week’s went on, life started to get in the way.  Work got a little crazy, my meals were scattered, summer parties on the weekend, travel and other challenges started to interfere.

Some days I felt great, while other days were a struggle from the start.

Of the 6 weeks that I was training, I made it out to the hill only 4 weeks as planned.  I had to change times, days, missed other workouts completely, but I stayed focused and kept working.  Some days I was tired, crabby, stressed out, or not feeling like doing it, but I kept going.

This last weekend, I went out on Sunday morning to do my work.  I had missed the previous Thursday because of work, but I was rested and ready to get a good workout in.

I ran up, walked down, caught my breath and repeated the hill run 10 times.  At the time, it didn’t seem like a big deal, but afterwards I thought about how I felt the first time I ran Big Red 6 weeks prior.

There is no way I could have made 10 intervals before, but after a sporadic 6 week effort, my body was able to handle those runs.

Felt good.

Lessons learned from Running Big Red

  1. Do something that makes you a little nervous
  2. Learn to adapt to a busy schedule
  3. Most days you may not feel like working out, but you always feel better afterwards
  4. Working hard clears your head
  5. When you feel like quitting, you’re usually about half way done
  6. Get a partner to join ya.
  7. When running outside in the summer, go in the morning, not in the middle of the day
  8. Use ice baths after tough workouts
  9. Always bring a little backpack with food and water
  10. When running a hill, that’s a mile from your car, make sure you have your keys before you walk back after your workout.

So, that’s my experience over the last few weeks.  I will keep you posted on whats next.

Here’s my question for you…
