Is Kettlebell Training For Me?

April 16, 2014 by ptpt 3 Comments

Kettlebell Swing

Yes!

Resurging as one of the HOTTEST fitness trends, the century old kettlebell has proven itself to be one of the #1 workouts for burning calories, and reducing body fat.

According to the American Council of Exercise, kettlebell workouts can burn up to 20 calories/min, that is like running a 6 minute mile! The only other exercise that comes close to that number is cross-country skiing.

What is a Kettlebell Workout?

Kettlebells are more than a substitution for traditional free weights. Giveroy (kettlebell) Sport is actually 3 lifts; Jerk, Snatch, and Long Cycle. The BEST part is that all three lifts can be broken down/isolated to their simplest form of kettlebell movement and you will still get RESULTS.

A Few Benefits of Kettlebell Training:

Increased Strength without Increased mass (no bulk) Increased Core/Abdominal Strength

Increased Resistance to Injury

Decreased Body Fat

Increased Muscular Stability

Decreased Neck, Shoulder & Lower Back Pain (Postural Ailments)

Work Aerobic & Anaerobic Simultaneously

Increased Mobility

Improved Posture

Optimize Caloric Burn Increased Muscular Endurance

Increased Lean Muscle

There are very few workouts, or pieces of fitness equipment that can deliver not only a strength workout, but have the potential for high-intensity cardiovascular activity & mobility training. By combining weight with our body’s natural movements (tossing, pulling, lifting, carrying), kettlebells allow for a functional performance resulting in practical & dramatic increases in our endurance and strength. Commonly known as the “Full Body Fit!”

Ready to get started!?

Though kettlebells are extremely versatile when it comes to combining them in your workouts, safe and effective body mechanics are crucial when preventing injury. Unless you are using kettlebells as a replacement for traditional free weights, we do not recommend learning the basics from DVDs or Youtube, and highly recommend that you seek out a coach/trainer with experience in kettlebell sport.

Orange County’s Fitness Playground & Orange Kettlebell Club is set to host OKC’s Level 1 Kettlebell Sport Certification in November 2016!

This workshop is perfect for the beginner looking to get into kettlebell sport, and the kettlebell sport athlete looking to gain an edge in competition.

Jason Dolby is a Kettlebell Sport Athlete and OKC Master Coach with over 14 years of experience in the world of Kettlebell Sport. Coach Dolby has traveled around the world increasing his knowledge and practice of the sport from World Record holders, coaches and fellow athletes.

Aaron Guyett is a Master of Sport in all lifts Jerk, Snatch, and Long Cycle, competing on the World stage as a professional, as well as setting several national records (including first American to achieve Master of Sport in Biathlon and Long Cycle at one competition).

He will be teaching basics of kettlebell sport techniques for:

-Swing

-Jerk

Karen Dahl is Down 10lbs and 4 Dress Sizes in 29 Days

April 27, 2012 by ptpt 4 Comments

Karen Dahl – 29 DAYS TO SUCCESS!!!

Snapshot of Karen’s transformation:
Lost 10 lbs. in one month
Dropped from size 12 to 8
Totally energized
Joined a 12-mile hike with an advanced team of athletes

Karen joined Innovative Results in February 2012 and is reaping the benefits!

Here is Karen’s Story:

Who says age is not a factor? It was for me.  I had already decided to join Weight Watchers to lose weight because my previous workout plan alone wasn’t giving me results. I used to cycle twice a week and jog once or twice a week around 2 to 4 miles, feeling completely exhausted. Cardio used to keep me in shape and I could eat – in moderation – pretty much anything I wanted.  About a year ago, I started piling up the pounds although my diet remained the same and my workout also pretty much the same.  Six months later, I worked out even less because I was discouraged and lost energy. I went from a size 4 to a size 10, sometimes 12, in one year. I went to the doctor believing I had hormonal problems, but my doctor said the usual: “You’re just getting older.” It’s true, my mom may have not looked like me at my age but I was still feeling the weight of my forties. I could not figure out what the problem was since I was doing everything right!

My biggest accomplishment at Innovative Results in the last 29 days is the energy surge I get from the short but intense workouts, the loss of weight from 160 pounds to 150 pounds in just one month without going through IR’s detox plan, the relaxing nights of deep sleep, the waking up to a trimmer and leaner physique, fitting into a size 8, and the best part was that I was able to join and keep up with an advanced team of athletes on a 12-mile hike on Pacifico Mountain – when it was my first time hiking, EVER! It’s been a life changing experience. I am in the same physical condition as a marathon runner, a regular kick-boxer and a yoga instructor, who hike on a regular basis. I feel much stronger, happier, more balanced and I am having fun while working out without having to kill myself with cardio. Amazingly, it was all done in one month! I am also venturing out and trying new things because I feel capable of taking on the challenge. Age has been a factor on my body and I now realize that I did need innovative techniques for better results! I have decided to continue my workouts and can’t wait until I reach my goals!  Thank you, Aaron, and the IR team!

Thank YOU Karen!!

Two Years and Counting, Vishal continues to see FITNESS RESULTS

April 20, 2012 by ptpt 1 Comment

Vishal Gandhi has been with Innovative Results for over 2 years.  He has experienced the IR Facility from it’s empty warehouse to the fully-loaded adult playground it is today.

When starting with Innovative Results Vishal weighed 228.  As of February 2012, Vishal is down an incredible 17lbs weighing in at 211 pounds.

Here is what Vishal had to say about Innovative Results:

“When you write a testimony for a product service there’s a tough part of showing your true appreciation, while also ensuring that others believe you in what you say.  With Innovative Results, especially Jeff DeRitter (Vishal’s trainer), the amount of gratitude I have within isn’t simple put into words.  I have been with Innovative Results for over 2 years and I can without doubt say that is has by far been one of the greatest investments I have ever made.  I always say, the best test for determining if someone is genuine in what they mean is asking them if they would get on the 6 o’clock news and express it to those watching; and that is how confident I am in the results of Innovative Results.”

“Throughout the years I have attempted to achieve various goals, and with the guidance of Jeff, almost each has been achieved or will be achieved in the days to come.

“The encouragement (of Jeff) is invaluable.  The atmosphere is not of “you should do it to be better that others” but of “you CAN do it and everyone here will help get you there”.  The positive attributes of Jeff, and Innovative Results, is an endless list; but I will have to leave it at that.”

“All I can say is a simple THANK YOU! to Innovative Results and an extra THANK YOU! to Jeff DeRitter to getting be where I am today, and helping me get to the goals ahead.”

Congratulations Vishal, and THANK YOU for YOUR hard work and dedication to YOURSELF and IR!!

Balance in Motion – Sleep and Muscle Recovery Tips

April 18, 2012 by ptpt 2 Comments

Sleep and Muscle Recovery

Not making the strength gains you think you should be?

How’s your sleep?

Lack of sleep and poor sleep quality negatively impacts coordination, mental focus and inhibits muscle growth and repair.

Why?

Many people don’t realize that sleep is an active physiological state for our bodies. There are thousands of processes taking place that affect our hormones, immune system, and muscle recovery, in addition to affecting our mood and mental clarity. During deep sleep our brains are less active, so the blood flow to our muscles increases, rejuvenating and repairing our tissues.  This is also when our body releases most of its growth hormone. Having a deficiency in growth hormone is associated with increased obesity, decreased muscle mass and a reduced exercise capacity.

One or two nights of reduced sleep probably won’t impact your performance too much; however, consistently not getting enough sleep could be the culprit keeping you from achieving your goals. According to the the National Sleep Foundations guidelines the average adult should get between seven and nine hours per night.

Effective Workouts Help Collene Drop 2.2% Body Fat in 1 Month

April 13, 2012 by ptpt 1 Comment

Lost 2.2% Body Fat, and 4.8 Total inches in 1 month!

“I have so much energy every day and I feel so good about myself!”

Collene Toavs has always been an amateur athlete. She grew up swimming, biking, and trying hard to be a runner. In her mid-20s, she started doing Sprint Triathlons.

The Innovative Results Team and Collene crossed paths at the Long Beach Triathlon in September 2010 expo sporting the IR Battling Ropes and Tractor Tires.

“I was feeling really strong that day, but I’ll never forget how I felt when I picked up that battling rope. It was so heavy!”

Collene later attended a free educational running clinic at the Innovative Results Facility and after months of researching training programs, online Collene gave the IR Team a call.
After her first session, Collene has been fanatical about Innovative Results.  The IR Training team has ‘given the best, most effective workouts, and guided her to a nutrition plan to eat better and help her muscles recover quicker.’

Collene has been part of the Innovative Results family since April 2011 and continues to compete in races.

“I could have never done it without training at Innovative Results. The intensity, strength, and core exercises that I do there improved every aspect of my body and prepared me for performance.  The last year has been life-changing for me. The Innovative Results team does amazing work!”

Congratulations Collene!

Lost 4.2 Pounds in 1 Month

May 17, 2010 by ptpt 7 Comments

Ugh…Innovative Results up!

Consistency has landed Jessica in the #1 spot after tallying votes from both the Innovative Results Team, and clients! Since April 5th, Jess has been attending 6:00AM workouts 5 days per week, and diligently keeping a daily food log. As of May 5th her efforts have paid off, losing 4.2lbs and shedding 1.5 inches from her waist line!  In only one month!!

Awesome work Jessica!!

I started training with Innovative Results trainer, Aaron Guyett in 2006. Realizing 18-year-old bodies fade with age, and body maintenance was in order to keep jean sizes down, I knew some healthy changes were needed.

Six months after beginning my program, I had to stop. I attempted to maintain what I had learned from Aaron but quickly lost motivation, and workouts became infrequent and lackadaisical. Needing to be held accountable and shown motivational guidance, I returned to Innovative Results full-force in February 2009.

Like many of us, I needed someone to hold me accountable and sought out motivators to stay active in and out of the gym without becoming bored. Creativity and accountability were no longer obstacles. Everyday I am faced with a new workout set to challenge every muscle, removing any opportunity to meander aimlessly around the gym as I did before.

Yay! I fit in my little jeans! …easily!

My energy increased and I could feel my body getting stronger, but it was time to conquer my weight loss goal. Starting April 5th, my trainer required me to send a daily food log. If I forgot to report my daily food intake, he would have a special exercise waiting for me the next time I came into the gym. This motivated me to consistently track my calories, and I even began to add in my own workouts to make up for any weekend splurges. I began to hold myself accountable, and by making the extra efforts I started to see the benefits immediately!

Support from the Innovative Results Team, and other clients have helped me develop a daily routine for both diet and workouts. I now work out 5-6 times a week, battling the early morning hours we all dread, hoping to motivate those around me and continue to build incredible client success stories.

We give praise to Jessica Cadenhead for bringing a positive attitude to our Innovative Results family!

Thank you Jessica and congratulations on your success!!

11 Simple Tips to Boost Your Metabolism

April 2, 2010 by ptpt 10 Comments

There are many people who would give their first born to increase their metabolism. Why, you ask?  Because having a high metabolism enables you to burn fat and lose weight fast with the least amount of effort. Simply put, metabolism is the rate by which the body produces and consumes energy and calories to support life.

Now, there are several factors that affect your metabolism, such as the amount of lean muscle tissue you have, the frequency of the meals you consume, good ol’ genetics, stress levels, personal diet and activity levels. On the other side of the coin, your metabolism can slow down due to many reasons, like age, a not-so-good diet, and a loss of muscle tissue because of inactivity.  This tendency of your body’s metabolism to decrease as you get older is just part of life, but there is a lot you can do to keep your metabolism at it’s most optimum level.

Here Are 11 Tips to Boost Your Metabolism:

1. Build up more lean muscle. It’s only natural that your metabolism decreases as you age, but it is possible to counter the effects. The amount of muscle you have will determine how your body burns calories and sheds fat.  This means that exercise is essential. Build up your strength and muscle mass by working out at least twice a week, preferably with weights, and stay active on your days off. Simple tasks such as walking the dog and using the stairs in place of the elevator can keep your metabolism elevated. The key is to match the amount you eat to the amount of activity you’re doing. Here are some guidelines to follow when you’re trying to build muscle:

For strength training and weight lifting:

-Make sure that your workout feels like, well, a workout.  If it’s easy, it probably won’t be enough stimulus to build muscle

-Add more weight/resistance as you progress

-Utilize advance exercise techniques if possible (superset/drop sets/compound sets/etc.)

For cardiovascular training

-Perform intervals between exercises

-Cross-training (doing different types of cardio activities) will challenge your body and require you to expend more energy (calories)

-Add resistance and speed as you progress

2. Eat breakfast. It may sound cliche, but breakfast really is the most important meal of the day and many people ignore this fact. Surprisingly, those that eat breakfast are leaner than those that don’t. Your metabolism can slow down considerably if breakfast is taken during the mid-morning or if you wait until the lunchtime to eat your first meal of the day.

3. Avoid sugar. Sugar puts your body in a fat storage mode due to the effects of insulin. It’s recommended that you consume food that will help sustain an even blood-sugar level, ideally foods that have a low number on the Glycemic Index.  Also, if you’re following the advice of #1, that will naturally  stabilize your blood sugar.

4. Eat spicy foods. Hot cuisine with peppers and spices can increase your metabolism.

5. Sleep more. According to research, people who don’t get enough sleep are more prone to gaining weight. You should be aiming to get between 7 and 8 hours of shut-eye each night.  You’ll be amazed at how powerful sleep is once you start getting your z’s every night.

6. Increase your water intake. Water flushes out toxins that are produced when your body burns fat. Most of your body’s functions involve or require water, and a lack of water can cause your metabolism to slow down significantly.  How much water a day?  Use the color of your urine as a gauge.  It should be a clear, light yellow color.  If you’re taking your vitamins, this will be waaay harder to gauge, so shoot for at least your weight in ounces of water.  So if you weigh 150 lbs., try and get 150 ounces of high quality H2O each day.

7. Eat smaller meals more frequently. Try and eat between 4 to 6 small meals that are timed 2 to 3 hours apart.  This will keep your metabolism from slowing down too much during the day and will give you more energy.

8. Never skip meals. Ok, I know, never is a harsh word.  But try and avoid missing meals as much as possible.  People tend to skip meals thinking this a good way to lose weight, but it’s a big mistake since this actually slows down metabolism.  Let’s say you’re eating 4 meals a day, 7 days a week, for a total of 28 meals a week.  I recommend that no more than 10%, or 3 meals, be cheat meals for that time frame.  And here’s the kicker with a missed meal…it counts as a cheat meal!  So if you miss 3 meals that week, you better make sure you’re other 25 meals are spot on (and you don’t get to splurge on any real cheat meals!)

9. Plan your meals in advance. Always prepare the right amount of food to be consumed at your designated intervals. Don’t commit the mistake of eating meals in random, sporadic patterns.  This will also keep you from eating out as much, and that alone will save you 100’s of calories each week.

10. Ditch the stress! Stress, be it physical or emotional, triggers the release of a hormone called cortisol, which decreases your metabolism. Also, people tend to eat poorly when stressed.  Do things that relax your mind and body.  Meditate, do some yoga or sing in the shower or whatever.  As long as you’re having fun, it’s just what you need to de-stress!

11. Chug some green tea. It’s the perfect substitute for coffee and has the ability to stimulate your metabolism, and unlike coffee, it has less undesirable side effects when too much is consumed.

Bonus Tip: Include more energy foods in the diet, such as fruits and vegetables, beans and whole grains.  You already knew this, but I thought I’d throw it in as a reminder.  Bonus!

Achieving the desired body weight is never impossible if you have the determination and patience to follow these 11 tips that will help raise your metabolism, have you dropping pounds of fat, and looking and feeling great.  You just need to realize that eating right and working out is not just a passing trend, but a way of life.

Cheers to your new life!

The Secret to Weight Loss and Living a Happier Healthier Life

January 4, 2010 by ptpt 8 Comments

Having the right mindset will make or break you.

We’ve all heard it, but do we apply it?

“Your attitude determines your altitude”

It’s so true, but not always easy to apply when life gets in the way, right?  Losing weight, getting a promotion, having healthy friendships, raising your kids, making money and dealing with life’s little challenges can create stress, fear, and other negative reactions that slow us down and prevent us from living the happy, healthy lives we desire.

Here are a few of my favorite articles from the past year that may help you get focused, stay positive and kick butt this year!

5 Traits of Champions

How to write goals and accomplish them

Pretty amazing stuff, right?

So here is some homework:

1.  Write 50 things that you are grateful for. Get a piece of paper and write em out. Some things you can include may be family, career, personal growth, health, fitness, accomplishments, relationships, spiritual, etc.

2.  Write 50 affirmations. They must follow the SMART rule.  Specific, Measured, “as if now”, Realistic and Timed.  For example, “It is now March 29th and I, Corey have successfully lost 30 lbs of fat and have a huge amount of energy everyday”

3.  Make a vision board. Cut out pictures that represent your affirmations.  I am a very visual person, so this one has been a huge value to me.  Next, put this board where you can see it everyday.  You may also wanna create a rotating screen saver on your computer with these pictures.

**Once these tasks are completed, you should begin each day by reading your grateful list and affirmations out loud, while looking at your vision board.  By doing this, you will keep yourself focused, positive and consistent during the next few months.

Try it for 30 days and let me know about your results!
