Natasha Shubin kicked out her insecurities and built a new lifestyle out of not allowing herself to make excuses!
Here is her story:
Michelangelo said it best when he said, “The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark.”
When I heard about the 29 day challenge, at Innovative Results, I started making up excuses not to sign up; the exercises looked too hard, my body couldn’t handle it, what if I couldn’t keep up with everyone? Then, I realized how sick and tired I was of making up excuses. I either wanted to change or not. I HAD strong determination and drive to sign up and change what I had never been willing to change before. I knew it was going to challenge me physically, but nothing could prepare me for the emotional and mental hurdles I would overcome; the sleepless nights because my adrenals kept the adrenaline going, the anger because I wasn’t losing weight fast enough, and the tears because my self esteem was low and I pushed too hard during one of the workouts. So many times I thought this isn’t worth it, I’m not going to make it, and I want to drop out. My aim and expectations of myself were too high, so half way through the challenge, I decided to do an experiment. If I let go of the emotions and embrace that I faced my fears by signing up and sticking with it every week doing my best, could it make a difference? Could thoughts hold a person back that much? Guess what? They do if you let them be your story! I’ve let go of the insecurities, the self consciousness, and embraced doing my very best during each workout.
One of the inspirational videos emailed to us, by the IR staff, helped me; the one where coach is telling his football player to give his best. The player gives his best and went farther than he thought. This last week I’ve worked out two days in a row with no adrenal issues and I feel great! Talk about giving my best and doing better than I thought. Of course, using a sauna, Epsom salt baths, and oxygen has helped my recovery time tremendously. On the days I’m not at IR, I’m doing yoga, walking, or using a stretching DVD to keep my muscles moving and help them recover even more. As for the IR workouts, they’re fun and make me feel like I’m a kid playing! We use ropes, and sleds, and versa climbers, oh my! I used to go to a regular gym and train with a personal trainer. That experience was mediocre compared to the IR workouts. Instead of working out each section of my body on different days, my whole body gets a workout every time. Each workout is different, which keeps it fun and keeps me coming back every week. How could you not, when you do tsunamis, push the sled, or bear crawl? Now that’s gold! Of course I owe some of the credit to my awesome trainer, Jeff. I’m grateful for his fun, knowledgeable, and encouraging personality. Thank you Jeff!
Sharing my story has motivated some of my friends to exercise more. My husband started biking to work again and my coworker started up an exercise program of her own. How rewarding to know I have helped others better their fitness. Now that’s priceless.
Natasha is still going strong in her workouts and IR is stoked to see what else she WILL accomplish!!
