6 Ways We Improve Your Mental Toughness During Innovative Results Active Performance Training

May 31, 2016 by IR Staff 1 Comment

Check out the video below to see a small snippet of Innovative Results Active Performance Training.

Every person that trains with the Active Performance fitness training class, must try-out, which ensures each individual has less risk and higher reward.

6 Ways We Improve Your Mental Toughness During Innovative Results Active Performance Training
Tryouts are the first Tuesday of each month at 6am & 6pm

Once they pass the rigors of try-outs, which includes pull-ups, push-ups, deadlifts, front squats, VersaClimber, and jump rope, they begin the process of increasing their performance and capacity.

This is a very physical process, which is programmed and coached by the best fitness coaches in Orange County.

But believe it or not, it is far more mental than physical.

Here are the 6 Ways We Improve Your Mental Toughness During Innovative Results Active Performance Training:

  1. Progressive Training Programs
  2. Giving Your Best, Even On Your Off Days
  3. Positive and Intentional Coaching
  4. Positive Support and Friendships
  5. Safely Pushing Beyond Physical Limits
  6. Staying Committed and Consistent for the Long Haul

The amount of mental toughness that is needed to overcome the obstacles, excuses, and physical demands of the training cycles is far greater than the training sessions themselves.

We all experience doubt, fatigue, laziness, confusion, lack of focus, anxiety, and even depression when we move toward our improved quality of life.

Let’s break down the ways that mental toughness is trained with a little bit more detail.

Progressive Training Programs

6 Ways We Improve Your Mental Toughness During Innovative Results Active Performance Training
Crawl Before You Walk, Walk Before Your Run

By utilizing progressive training programs, you can build a strong mental toughness without being demoralized by an overwhelming program or training cycle. Training cycles should build upon themselves, not be so difficult that you can never complete them. This type of intelligent and progressive training programming is not found in most gyms and training systems these days. It is okay to be humbled from time to time, but if every workout or training cycle is so hard that you cannot complete it, the person will end up quitting not overcome mentally.

Giving Your Best, Even On Your Off Days

victoria anthony collage, mental toughness, strong, active performanceWe all have off days, and those are the hardest days to commit, come train anyway, and overcome mentally and physically. That is why it is so important to make the commitment and do the work. When we let off days stop us in our tracks, it can be a slipper slope. I am not saying overtrain, or train when you are injured…be smart, and give the best that you have for that day, which might mean dynamic stretching, mobility, and light aerobic work. It may also mean, digging deep and doing the hard work that today demands. Each situation is different, but quitting is never the answer.

Positive and Intentional Coaching

mental toughness, mentally tough, good coaching, Aaron GuyettA positive and intentional coach, knows their clients and students. He or she will make the right adjustments, hold back, stay silent, speak up, demand more, etc. depending on the student and situation. If you are getting increases in your physical and mental strength and endurance, than your coach knows what he or she is doing, if not, it is time to have a conversation with your coach. If after the conversation, the coach doesn’t change and neither do your results…find another coach.

Positive Support and Friendships

Ladera Ranch Personal Trainer, ankorr, zuu, mental toughness, mentally tough, support, strongI have never seen, not heard of a lone wolf make it in the wild, and I have also never seen a lone wolf type person make it in a difficult training cycle. We are social creatures, and we need to be pushed, challenge, encouraged, inspired, motivated, and moved by our support and friendships. Just because Rambo and Chuck Norris are awesome on screen, doesn’t mean it works in real life. This is real life, and we need support and friendships to do incredible things.

Safely Pushing Beyond Physical Limits

Ankorr, zuu, mason, innovative results, mentally tough, mental toughness, strong, crawlAt Innovative Results, we are very picky about how we choose to push people past their perceived physical limitations. We do not choose box jumps or heavy barbell lifts overhead…that is a recipe for disaster. We choose low impact, high results exercises like ZUU, Ankorr, VersaClimber, FRC, sled, prowler, battle ropes, and other body weight movements. This way we can increase force without increasing risk. It is important to take the body to a level that is beyond what the person perceives they can do, and then show them, it was their mind that decided that is where they needed to stop. In doing this, the mind and body is taught a valuable lesson. When the mind quits, the body quits…it is NEVER the other way around.

Staying Committed and Consistent For The Long Haul

Kettlebell Crew, Kettlebell Team, Kettlebell, strong, mental toughness, medals, medalThis is probably the hardest part of building mental strength. Discipline seems to be a bad word these days, but the rewards found after someone stays consistent for 100 training sessions, and ALWAYS INCREDIBLE!! Never once have I heard of someone saying they regretted working out three days per week for the last three years. Never once do I hear Innovative Results long time veterans complain of price and value. They understand the high value they receive, and they would probably pay triple what they pay to receive the training they earn every week.

May your next week be your best week, and may your mental toughness sore after reading these 6 tips.

Shane Praises Active Recovery After Crushing His Sixth Ragnar Relay

April 11, 2016 by ptpt Leave a Comment

Shane_Ragnar1The IR Team received this incredible “improved quality of life” story from one of our active recovery clients today!

So pumped on his success!!

I just completed my sixth Southern California Ragnar Relay, and can honestly say it was not an easy one.

I had the most total miles for the team of 12 runners at 25.4 miles and the single longest leg at 12.1 miles.

Overall my recovery between runs and after the race was greatly improved.

All because I started incorporating Innovative Results Active Recovery classes.

In my training and conditioning runs of 4 – 10 miles preparing for the race I had an incredible per minute average pace drop from 9:15 minute mile to 8:15 minute mile.

A full minute faster than my average pace!

All due to Innovative Results Active Recovery Class!

Proving that you can achieve higher level fitness and athleticism with some conscience efforts in active muscle release, focused breathing, meditation techniques, and overall well-being through recovery.

Motivation: The Three Steps to Success – Explained By Innovative Results Fitness Coach

August 3, 2015 by Jessica 1 Comment

Motivation
By Madison Murphy

Motivation is such an important part of everything we do. Whether it’s getting out of bed in the morning or working out, there’s something inside that motivates you. At Innovative Results we break motivation into three parts: present self, goals, and reason.

10343525_10152108795307045_8922711973911952964_n

Present Self is an honest evaluation of yourself right now which includes
• Body measurements
• Fitness measurements
• Athletic measurements
• Mindset

How are you right now? Be honest but not judgmental. You have already evaluated yourself, at least somewhat, and decided to improve you quality of life by coming to Innovative Results. Motivation starts by evaluating your Present Self.

Goals are an awesome way to get motivated. They give you something to constantly work towards and look forward to. At Innovative Results we make S.M.A.R.T goals:
• Specific810 step
• Measurable
• Attainable
• Realistic
• Time Bound

You set goals after you honestly evaluate yourself presently to keep working hard and stay motivated. If you set goals and determine to reach them, then you accomplish what you are striving for.

Reasons are why you want to accomplish the goals you set. It’s important to have reasons why you want to achieve your goals to be clear that you really want what you say you want. Some of the reasons why people are motivated to train at IR are:
• Improved quality of life
• Increased fitness
• Increased functional strength
• Reduction of weight/body fat

While it may seem that motivation is term that is hard to define, by dividing it into three sub parts, it becomes much clearer. Knowing that: Present Self, Goals and Reasons are all components of motivation gives you tools to accomplish your goals.

Which Is More Important: Sleep or Exercise? Find Out if Sleep Or Exercise is Better for You in the Morning

July 26, 2015 by Jessica 1 Comment

Sleep or Exercise in the Morning?Should I sleep in or work out?

Am I feeling fatigued because I am over working and over training, OR am I fatigued and drained due to a lack of activity?

If I don’t work out, wouldn’t I lose all the gains I’ve made? But I’m so tired!

These are all great questions to ask yourself right before hitting the snooze button to catch a few more extra Z’s in the morning.

We’ve all heard that for our bodies and brains to perform optimally, we as humans need a proper balance of both sleep and exercise.  Sleep plays a HUGE role in our “overall physical and emotional health, helping your brain function, reducing your risk of chronic disease, promoting mental well-being, and boosting your immune system. Studies also show that sleep loss is associated with increased hunger and appetite, linking a lack of zzzs with an increased risk of obesity.”

Then again, there are so many benefits to exercising in the morning. You’ll get your workout done before the rest of the day happens. You’ll already be kick-starting your day. Plus, all that exercise in the morning makes you sleep much better at night.

So what do we do?! Do we choose sleep or exercise?

Katie Golde over at Greatist helps break down the importance of maintaining the balance between sleep and exercise in this week’s article “Which Is More Important: Sleep or Exercise?” Get the facts on what’s best for you and your body.

Your Mind Body Connection with Aubrie Pohl, One of Innovative Results Incredible Fitness Coaches

July 22, 2015 by Jessica Leave a Comment

By Aubrie Pohlbarry peru

Close your eyes, slowly extend your arm in front of you, then raise it up.

How do you know you only raised one arm? How do you know you didn’t raise a leg? What made you sure that you actually raised your arm at all?

You couldn’t see your movement with your eyes closed, but you could still feel it.

Every human has a unique anatomical structure, but we all experience this kinesthetic sense.

This intimate interconnection between body and mind.

Do you know what that means?

We are born to move.

That is what Innovative Results –  The Orange County Fitness Playground – is all about!

Our bodies love movement.

With every reach, lift, stretch, twist, jump, and dance our bodies reciprocate and expand, lengthen, strengthen, open, and grow towards their greatest potential.

How Often Do You Move?GroupKB

This hasty, task-filling lifestyle we live often can become so busy that we forget moving our body is always an option.

… and being sedentary has become the “normal.”

We are working jobs that require us to sit for hours at a time, and day after day going through the same robotic motions.

We are working our minds while our bodies remain stagnant.

In turn our bodies become stiff, slow, weak; yearning for the freeing sensation of the muscles expanding and contracting, giving and receiving.

This is directly correlated to a decreased quality of life.

Our bodies long for movement.

Our physiology craves the vast variety of movement experienced in the days where our bodies were in motion from sunrise to sunset.

Consequently, our bodies are now confused.

Why are so many movement ranges missing?

What happened to the constant motion?

Movement SimplifiedAlan Gutierrez Rope

Every movement you are doing or not doing is registered by your body.

It doesn’t register the one hour “workout” on the elliptical as enough to make up for the eight hours of inactivity at work.

It doesn’t count the three sets of ten bicep curls as effective to overpower the shortening of the bicep muscle during eight hours of contraction.

It needs more.

We can divide movement into three different patterns: push, pull, and rotation.

Every reach, lift, stretch, twist, jump, and dance is some form of those patterns.

Pushing uses the musculature close to the body to extend outwards, while pulling draws the musculature in.

Rotational movements are the circular movements that keep our core strong and powerful.

Encourage yourself to move on a regular basis, freely and openly, in whatever way feels best.

Take breaks from stillness and extend your limbs in any direction, with your eyes opened or closed, tapping into this alliance of body and mind.

Experience the healing pleasure as you move through the three movement patterns, every day of life and notice your body moving better, looking better, and feeling better.

Focus on Improving 1%, and You Will Have All the Success You Desire

June 16, 2015 by Jessica 2 Comments

IR photos-020By: Aaron Guyett

If you are reading this, you are success-minded.

You are interested, intrigued, and focused on your own success and probably the success of those around you.

That is reason enough to stop now and celebrate!

Yay!

Okay, now I will give you the 1% to success…

The reason you opened this email.

What will you do this next week to improve 1%?

How will you adjust your time, energy, focus, or money, so that you achieve the EXTREMELY HIGH level of 1% improvement?

Think about it.

If you improved your situation by 1% every week, where would you be in a month? (4.33% improved)

How about 6 months? (26% improved)

How about a year? (52% improved)

Wait…How about 5 years? (260% improved)

This is the all important:
-Dedication to the basics
-Diligent change and growth
-Focused intensity with hard work, and patient endurance

consistency1

Maybe your still convinced that 1% is not enough.

Besides pointing out almost every New Year’s Resolution fail, and most of society’s burnt out attitude because of trying to do too much too soon…
…let me illustrate with three areas of life:

1. Weight Loss
2. Strength Gains
3. Financial Wealth

If 1% improvement in weight loss is only a half of a pound:

-1 month, you have lost 2 pounds
-6 months, you have lost 13 pounds
-1 year, you have lost 26 pounds!!
-5 years, you probably don’t even have 130 pounds to lose!!

If 1% improvement in strength is 5 pounds added to your 5 rep maximum of Hex-bar dead lifts.

-1 month, you have added 20 pounds to the bar.
-6 months, you have added 130 pounds to your 5 rep maximum.
-1 year, you are 260 pounds stronger
-5 years, you are now lifting most European cars (maxing out 1300 pounds over the start.

On the last two examples, there will be a point at which you may slow down, and then maintain, which opens up the possibility to pursue another slow and steady 1% goal…financial Wealth anyone?

If 1% improvement in financial wealth is investing $100 every week (email me for ideas to easily save $100 per week even if you are broke) into a consistently successful mutual fund earning a conservative 12%…(be prepared to be amazed)

be not afraid of going slow

-1 month you have $433.
-6 months you have $2600.
-1 year you have $5200.
-5 years you have $36,998.98 Whoa!!

*Bonus for extra patient endurance*
*30 years*
*You have earned $1,405,521.55.*
*You are now a millionaire, all you need is a little focus, patience, and time…*

So, the question is, what is your deepest need, want, and desire?

Now make your desire a weekly discipline, and you WILL succeed!

“It is our disciplines, not our desires, that determine our destiny.”

Make your next 1%, your BEST 1%!

After Learning These 9 Running Technique Drills – Steve Makes a Mental Gain

December 12, 2014 by ptpt 2 Comments

This video has all 9 Running Technique Drills that helped Steve, Anshika, and countless other Innovative Results fitness clients get faster, more efficient, and more effective running. Keep reading to hear Steve’s awesome story of fitness training at Innovative Results – The Orange County Fitness Playground.

Every time an Innovative Results client and family member share their story and do a review, they are helping us help more people improve their quality of life.

Read about Steve’s running and quality of life improvement here:

I wanted to thank you and share a story about running that I think you’ll enjoy.

As you know, I have been doing triathlons for the last few years and I’m always looking for ways to improve my performance.

Coming to Innovative Results after taking a 12 month break due to injury has been one of the best decisions I’ve made.

I’ve been able safely gain my strength back in order to keep myself injury free going forward.

The fun and self confidence I gain are just extras!

SteveStary3

Last week at our regular Innovative Results workout you had us do some running but it seemed odd to me at the time because we only have 20 meters to work with.

I wondered how we were going to run indoors?

With skill and clarity you (Coach Aaron) explained the processes of running as controlled falling.

My favorite part was the demonstration of what a baby looks like when they learn to walk – you’re really good at it with your daughter’s example fresh in your mind!

The visuals and the exercises combined to make for what ended up being a decent workout (as usual).

SteveStary4What I wanted to share was my recent experience on a run.

I never said I was a FAST triathlete and my running pace has been plateaued at a pace averaging between 9:30 and 10:00 per mile.

As I began my run I said to myself, “Fall forward” and tried to apply the techniques we just learned at the IR session.

I was very comfortable while running, more comfortable than usual.

Then I realized I was enjoying running at a pace that was in the 8:30 per mile range!

At various points on the run I was even able to get into the high 7’s pace.

I have not been running much so I know that much change in performance was not due to pounding out miles, rather it was MENTAL.

I couldn’t tell if my actual technique was really different, but my mental state was.

Instead of trying push my body forward stride after stride I leaned forward and consciously tried to use gravity to my advantage.

IT WORKS!

SteveStary1

I have a lot more training to do before I’m back in racing form, but I expect some nice gains next year.

In the meantime, I have some other physical endurance goals to accomplish this Spring and with the support I get from Innovative Result and you (Aaron, Aubrie, Mark, Madison, and Mason) as my coach I have every confidence that I’ll achieve those goals and beyond.

Thanks for your passion!
Steve Stary

It’s Mental Fortitude, Clarity & a New Level of Awesome for Emma!

November 14, 2014 by ptpt Leave a Comment

Emma head shotThroughout my journey with IR, I’ve had family and friends ask about what kind of gym I belong to. As I explain to them how I’ve drug a chain around the block a few times, pushed iron sleds around the astro turf, slung kettlebells around, or played keep-away with “swords” around a gigantic tire, they either look at me like I’m completely nuts or assume it must be another one of those “crossfit places.” I’ll readily admit that I have to have a few screws loose to enjoy swinging a 16kg kettlebell around for 5 to 10 minutes at a time, but IR is the furthest thing from the crossfit craze. Let me explain…

About three years ago, I began training with Aaron’s now wife, Keri. From the moment I walked into the gym, I felt a warmth and positive energy that was contagious.

Being out of shape at the time, I felt slightly apprehensive joining a new fitness community fearful of my inability to keep up with those around me. Keri began where all IR training does, working on my mindset.

As I reflect on the ways IR has changed my life, I realize that while my physical strength was dormant, my mental fortitude needed a lot of work. As a full-time student and employee, I often found myself frustrated, tired, and easily giving up when stress seemed to be at every corner of my life. During the summer of my first year at IR, Keri trained me for the one-mile rope pull—one of IR’s notorious fitness challenges. At first, I thought it seemed nearly impossible to yank a thick rope 16 times around a pole in the dead heat of summer. Chipping away at each pull, Keri pushed me to reach beyond what I thought my physical limits were; one mile of rope and two blistered hands later, I completed the challenge. From that moment I was hooked on the ways of IR, and I became a glutton for their butt-kicking, mind-over-matter, brutal workouts (insert towel taz, bear crawls, jungle gym relays and slosh pipe jump squats here).Emma-1024x577

Fast forward a few years, and throw training with Aaron into the mix…talk about reaching a new level of fitness. I took a few months off in 2013 returned to the new facility. I thought IR was rad before, but the new place blew me away. It is a complete embodiment of what Innovative Results stands for. Fitness is a lifestyle; it isn’t stagnant or confined within a room of steel (that half of the members don’t even know how to use correctly), or flexing your muscular ability to the gym-goer next to you. IR understands fitness as a whole and makes “working out” functional to our lives. I’ll be honest, I was totally a closet gym rat who saw progress as a means of perfecting my dead-lift form, or maxing out a few unrealistic-weighted squats.

For the past 12 months, Aaron has guided me through a significant growth not only as an athlete, as well as my outlook on life. He introduced me to my most recent fitness addiction of Givroy Sport… a time saving translation: swinging a kettlebell as many times as you can within ten minutes with perfect form and mental focus to not give up. I faced a couple set backs that prevented me to reach my ultimate goal of competing with the rest of IR’s kettlebell addicts. Whether it was school on the weekends or a back injury, Aaron coached me through some pretty frustrating plateaus. Ultimately teaching me to dig deep and keep the bigger picture in perspective, turning negative emotions into motivation to push further and harder than I have yet. I’ve shared the following thought with Aaron before, but it is worth sharing with the rest of the IR community and those who are looking to start their own fitness journey…I can honestly say that my preconceived understanding of ‘fitness’ completely morphed through kb training. It’s so easily confined within a definition that is restrictive in its physical or aesthetic attributes. I totally dig that perk of being fit (I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t a factor), but that is only scratching the surface. The mental fortitude and clarity I’ve developed gives ‘fitness’ a new level of awesome in its meaning both inside the IR playground and my everyday life.
