Fitness Motivation Is About More Than Physical Results, Just Ask Jeff!

October 6, 2017 by Jessica 6 Comments

JeffSchofieldToday Innovative Results is stoked to highlight soccer stud, and director of the LA Galaxy South Bay College Prep Program for girls, Jeff Schofield!

When did you start training at Innovative Results?
I started in November of 2014

Why did you start training with Innovative Results?
I started training there because I was looking for something different than running and going to the gym on my own. Being a former collegiate athlete I missed the intensity of workouts, energy of exercising with other like-minded people, and motivation of coach/trainer. I chose Innovative Results because it worked perfectly with my schedule. I teach during the day and then am a soccer coach at night so I needed something early afternoon and their large number of class times worked well for me.

What have you improved since you started training with Innovative Results?
Of course, I have improved many physical aspects such as speed, strength, increased core strength, lower body fat, and my clothes fit better. It also improved many aspects of my life in addition to the physical. I enjoyed setting goals and working hard to attain them. I enjoyed the relationships I built with the other clients and trainers. I improved my self-image and confidence.

What kept you coming back to Innovative Results?
It is a competitive and motivating environment that includes unique exercises that are very functional for everyday life. I also enjoy that you do a certain set of exercises for 3 weeks, which allows you to set goals for that period and try to improve at those exercises before they change it for the next set of 3 weeks.

How has Innovative Results improved the other areas of your life (i.e. work, relationships, finances, education)?
I have mainly used the knowledge and exercise for my job in coaching soccer and as a PE teacher. There are so many ways to strengthen and increase mobility and flexibility using just body weight and I have adapted a lot of what I do at IR to my teams and classes. This last year I started at a new school and their percent of students that pass the Physical Fitness Test was 44%. I did a lot of exercises that I use at IR to help them improve. For students, they need a variety of exercises to prepare for the test not just the same push ups, sit-ups, mile run, etc. As a result, my students passed at a 73% rate. I credit IR for providing me the tools to help my students.

What advice do you have for someone who is just getting started with Innovative Results?
It is going to be challenging at first. You will be sore and some of the exercises you won’t quite get immediately, but have an open mind and stay with it. Before you know it, you will be one of the regulars that is encouraging the new people.

How has your life changed since you started training at Innovative Results?
I feel better physically which improves all aspects of life. I used to wake up in the morning and was in pain as I would get out of bed. That pain is gone and I am able to play soccer more consistently without being sore or in pain.

Who would you want to experience what you get to experience at Innovative Results?
I think anybody that is looking to improve their health should come and be a part of IR. There is every kind of client there from teenagers, elite athletes, former athletes, to injured clients. The workouts can be adapted for you to make it challenging for everyone and to get out of it what you want.

Why do you stay committed to your improvement in and out of the gym?
I realize that life is much more enjoyable when you are pain free and mentally it is good to challenge yourself.

Can you relate to Jeff’s story? We’d love to hear from you!

4 Workouts That Will Keep You Going All Year

February 13, 2017 by Jessica 2 Comments

Article By: Paige Johnson, Learnfit.org

In exercise, a lot of people tend to develop the habit of sticking to what works for them. However as with anything, all things change —including your body and what it needs to thrive. If you allow your muscles to become accustomed to your workout routine with little to no variety, you will begin to see little to no results. Little to no results will in turn lead to frustration and inactivity, which is never the goal! This year take the time to add variety to your existing fitness regimen and watch as your body changes along with you!

Join a jogging clubincrease focus, increase speed, eliminate meds, lose weight, gain muscle, get fast, Innovative Results, training

The benefits of jogging are tremendous and one of the best ways to yield results in your overall health and wellbeing. Jogging improves your cardiovascular fitness, strengthens your bones and it aids in maintaining a healthy weight. If you are new to jogging or just trying to find ways to spruce up your routine, joining a joggers group may be just the right step for you! You may find a runners club sponsored by your local sports store or you can form one in your own neighborhood! The primary foundation of a running group is to meet one or two times a week and run a select distance as a group. The encouragement and team response you will receive from participating in such a group will prove to be beneficial to your general mood as well as your health. The accountability that comes with running in a group also will assist you in maximizing your fitness efforts to attain better results!

Try a spin class

Spinning, a specific format of indoor cycling, is a exercise routine that has quickly made its way around the world. As you ride on a stationary cycling bike under the supervision of a certified spinning instructor, your heart rate will shoot up which in return allows you to sweat, burn a sustainable amount of calories and improve your lower body strength. Most spin classes typically last an hour or less and can be taken at your local gym or fitness facility. Classes are uptempo and accompanied with loud, adrenaline pumping music. Be sure to bring a towel for sweat and plenty of water! Consider bringing a friend to enjoy the new experience with you!

Practice yoga

Yoga is not your typical heart racing type of exercise, however if done properly the benefits practicing are amazing. The practice of yoga originated in India and has widespread across the globe as a phenomenal way to improve your mental and physical health and wellness. Physical benefits of yoga include increased core strength, increased flexibility and weight reduction. The mental benefits of yoga sharpens your concentration, helps you de-stress and also increases body awareness.

Start using weights

Jennifer Lifting with Kettlebell

The use of weights, also known as strength training is a wildly successful way to add more value to your fitness efforts. The use of weights create a compound called resistance, which can be explained as using your muscles to work against the extra pounds. Weight training helps you burn calories more efficiently than traditional exercise and it also reduces body fat. The best way to become introduced to strength training is by acquiring a personal trainer to allow yourself to see maximum results and avoid potential injuries. It doesn’t hurt to get some equipment for your home either.

Incorporating one or more of these exercises into your routine will be more than enough to keep your fitness goals on track throughout the year. Adding variety is the best way to ensure that you are getting the most out of your efforts, and it will keep you from inactivity due to boredom. Keep your routine fun and fresh by stepping outside of your workout habits and begin to enjoy the fittest, healthiest version of yourself!

If you are ready to start a new training program, whether it be running, strength training, yoga or all of the above – Go ahead and fill out the form below and one of our Innovative Results Personal Trainers will contact you to discuss your training goals!

What Separates Those Who Achieve From Those Who Don’t? Another Look At Fitness Training Success.

May 22, 2016 by IR Staff 1 Comment

blog-consequences

Discipline.

Now before you get disgusted, and click away from this article, I am guessing you clicked this article because you want to achieve something, and I am guessing it is something worth this read and worth the discipline that it will take to achieve it.

As I sat in church today, I started thinking about how everyone wants to achieve great things, yet we tend to settle for the cheaper versions of greatness.

For instance,

Instead of training hard to win a race, I will pay over $100 for a one hour race, where I will get a medal and a shirt anyway even if I come in last place (nothing shameful about last place, especially if you have never run a day in your life…you should be proud of finishing)

I hear potential clients tell me all the time how the $147 or more for multiple sessions (9-26 per month) of training at The Orange County Fitness Playground – which is exciting and well-planned, helping every person that attends them see improvements in the way they look, feel, and perform – is too expensive, but the same person won’t blink an eye at spending over $100 for a three hour experience of an obstacle race.

I have nothing against obstacle races or mud runs, and I have ran several of them, but the feeling of finishing one of those races and getting a shirt and a medal, is nothing compared to what you learn and experience after working consistently for over 100 sessions to achieve lasting health, fitness, and improved quality of life.

Eric Olson
E.O. With a Sea Monster

Looking better, feeling better, or performing better takes more than just  $100 and three hours.

Those who achieve have discipline, and those who don’t achieve desire discipline.

Those who don’t achieve live in excuses and immediate gratification.

Those who achieve understand that it is going to take daily habits and daily focus.

For those who achieve…THANK YOU FOR YOUR DISCIPLINE!

You are a great example to us all!

In a culture that upholds results, we often forget that it takes an ongoing process and journey that is fraught with challenge and difficulties, in order to achieve results that are worthwhile.

I wanted to take a moment to shine a light on what it takes to get those results–discipline.

The daily and weekly discipline.

The struggles of building good habits and eradicating bad habits.Discipline SSgt Guyett Aaron Marine Corps

Thank you for all of you who are trying again and again.

You are getting stronger every new attempt and every time you continue your effort in the process of daily discipline.

All of us at Innovative Results – The Orange County Playground – would like to take a moment to thank and celebrate our family members that have made their achievement, success, and improvement possible by being dedicated to the process of making health and fitness a habit.

These clients/family members have attended Innovative Results 100 times or more, and each of them have seen incredible results as a byproduct of their weekly discipline of attending our training program:

You are the example we all would be blessed to uphold!

Many of these clients above will say that they are not done with their health, fitness, success, and improvement, but every one of them will admit that their continued devotion to their weekly fitness training has improved their looks, feelings, and performance in all areas of their life.

Thank you so much for your example to the Innovative Results team, family, and community!

Thank you so much for continuing to pursue excellence, health, fitness, and improvement with discipline.

As I listened to the rest Tim Celek’s sermon on discipline at The Crossing Church in Costa Mesa, every bit of it rang true for me and for our team, family, clients, and community at Innovative Results, so I wanted to share his incredible insight beyond the walls of the church and invite you to watch it online here at http://www.thecrossing.com/. Below are my notes from the weekend…

weight loss Orange County, CACharacter is an outward reflection of an inward connection.

Discipline is doing what you ought to do, so you can do what you want to do.

  • Failure begins and ends with excuses.
  • Success begins and ends with discipline.
  • Discipline defined by Tim’s mom and dad, was “delayed gratification”
  • Disciplined people plan in advance.
  • Discipline puts us in a position to be used powerfully as a blessing and/or be blessed.
  • Too many people live by reaction rather than by choice of action.
  • Disciplined people do life around the right kinds of people.
  • Disciplined people live their day and life in bite-sized chunks.

onnitKBThis sermon was motivational, inspirational, and challenging for me.

I have watched discipline pay off with every client that embraces it, and I strongly urge every Innovative Results team member, family member, and community member to embrace discipline.

In embracing discipline, we will watch our relationships, health, finances, security, intelligence, and development steadily grow.

Those who achieve have discipline, and those who don’t achieve desire discipline.

If you have chosen discipline and continue to walk out the daily challenge of delayed gratification for something truly great…THANK YOU FOR YOUR AWESOME EXAMPLE.

VersaClimber Benefits for Your Fitness Training Program

May 6, 2016 by IR Staff 1 Comment

By Mark Elmasry

Mark and his sidekick, Mugsy
Mark and his sidekick, Mugsy

The VersaClimber is a great tool to use in a plethora of exercise programs, and there are many VersaClimber Benefits.

Most high level athletic training facilities are equipped with them, Innovative Results fitness gym has it for all of their athletes.

All fitness gyms and athlete training facilities should incorporate them in their training programs.

We incorporate it into our training program at Innovative Results fitness gym because it is a safe regression for any hard impact movements, it is an excellent strength building tool, it is an awesome recovery tool, and it can be used to train all three energy systems.

The first of the VersaClimber Benefits and the reason it is an excellent implement to your fitness training program because it is a safe warm up tool that will always be time efficient and effective.

Alli VersaClimberThe basic movement of the Versaclimber is a very natural contra-lateral pattern (an elaborate way of saying the opposing limbs–Right arm with left leg, and left arm with right leg–move together, like when walking, running, or swimming).

It requires a complex pattern of coordinated movements that we all practice as babies by simply crawling.

When you master that at a young age, we are never too old to keep practicing that rudimentary movement.

Moving opposing limbs like that is so beneficial for your nervous system.

This teaches both sides of your brain spatial awareness and basic neuromuscular grooving.

When you move repetitively like this in a low impact environment, quick or slow, you are training your lower body to keep up with your upper body and vice versa.

It becomes a pattern that you subconsciously remember; your “muscle memory” takes over, and is an athletic drill that can benefit every sport and activity.

Training with the Versa Climber has a variety of uses, specifically focusing on any of the three energy systems.

The Versaclimber can hit all three energy systems.versaclimber trip

It can be used in short, explosive bursts to deplete the phosphor-creatine system; which maxes out at about 8-12 seconds depending on the muscle fiber make-up and the level of conditioning of the subject.

The next energy system is the fast glycolysis system, or the lactic threshold.

Versa climber sprints from 15 seconds to up to 1:45 sec or 2 minutes are going to push the lactic capacity of your muscles ability to do work with making lactic acid as a byproduct.

Energy Systems The more you train that energy system the more potential your muscles have to do work without making acid as a byproduct.

You can train your lactic (fast glycolysis) system to be very efficient and keep your muscles working for a good amount of time as well as recharge for more work within a brief recovery period as well.

Last of the energy systems is our oxidative energy system which has an infinite amount of energy because it is the process of our lungs oxygenating our blood.

That process only stops when we stop breathing and our heart stops beating.

However, we can always train this energy system to be more efficient and the versaclimber is an awesome way to do so while cruising at a submaximal heart rate with very low impact force on our joints.

In summary, the Versaclimber is a great way to train both hemispheres of our brain coordinating this simple elementary pattern.

It is also one of the best ways to train our creatine energy system, our lactic energy system, and our oxidative energy system.

VersaClimber 3This is a must have for your fitness training gym, athletic training facility, and personal training program.

Check them out at http://versaclimber.com/ or come by Innovative Results–The Orange County Fitness Playground and use our three VersaClimbers and our two VersaPulleys.

What Happens When You Stop Working Out? 6 Things You Don’t Want To Happen When You Drop Your Workout Routine.

September 22, 2015 by Jessica Leave a Comment

agility ladderThat missed training session has turned into a multiple week break, ready to find out what your body has to say?

“Detraining” – just as a great training program builds you up, falling out of your workout routine can have negative effects on your body.  Not too mention deny you the fitness goals you set for yourself.

Lucky for us, ‘detraining” is a fully reversible condition as long as you get yourself back to your training routine.

So what actually happens to your body when you trade regular sweat sessions for the couch, and Netflix binge?

Let’s take a look!

What Happens When You Stop Working Out?

1. Your Blood Pressure Soars
An elevated blood pressure is an almost instant effect of de-training. On the days you spend out of the gym, your blood pressure will be higher. “Your blood vessels adapt to the slower flow of a sedentary lifestyle after just two weeks, which clicks your readings up another couple of notches, according to a recent study in the journal PLoS. Within a month, stiffening arteries and veins send your BP back to where it would be if you’d never even left the couch, says study author Linda Pescatello, PhD, of the University of Connecticut.”

How Do I Reverse It: Start sweating again! Once you get back to your regular sweat sessions, your blood pressure will drop a bit day by day, and your blood vessels will increase efficiency within your first week back. According to Dr. Pescatello, after a month or two, the heart-pumping workouts will allow for vaculature flexibility resulting in “lasting pressure-lowering effects.”

2. Your Blood Sugar Spikes
Normally, you see an increase in your blood glucose after you eat, then as your muscles and other tissues process the sugar they need for energy the levels begin to drop. After only 5 days of skip the gym excuses, your post-meal blood sugar levels will remain in the elevated state. As these levels increase with sedentary behavior, you increase your risk of heart disease and diabetes.

How Do I Reverse It: Studies have shown that just one week of regular exercises will have a HUGE effect on decreasing post-meal blood sugar.

3. You Get Winded Fast SteveStary3
Climbing those stairs getting a little tougher? Two weeks of less of missed training sessions will have you gasping for breath as your working muscles fight for oxygen. According to exercise physiologist Stacy Sims, PhD, your VO2 max (how much oxygen your working muscles can use) decreases by as much as 20% within those first two weeks of de-training. (Read more about why this occurs HERE)

How Do I Reverse It: The Bad News – rebuilding will take longer than the 2 weeks it took to lose those original gains, but the great news is that it is possible! It’s never too late to restart your training habits and get back in shape. Nothing GREAT comes easy, you just have to set up your plan.

4. Your Muscles Withermikki
Your endurance will be the first to go as your activity levels decrease, and second will be your strength with your quads and biceps being the first to go 😉 After two weeks of rest, studies have found dramatic reduction in muscle mass often leading to an inability to ‘sustain high intensity efforts.’

How Do I Reverse It: Again, the rebuilding process is going to be longer than the 2 weeks it took you to lose muscle mass, but you are better off than those who have never touched a weight before. Read more…

5. You Plump Up
You guessed it! Within 1 week your muscles will begin lose their ability to burn fat, and your metabolism will slow due to inactivity.

How do I Reverse It: Ready to reduce the plumpness? It may require at least double the duration of time you took off from training to regain that same lean level you started with. Don’t let the duration of time discourage you, just add one workout a week to start. The health benefits will start adding up as you get back into the swing of things and you will be back to your sexy self in no time!

6. Your Brain SuffersStress
Feeling tired, irritable, and grouchy? Studies have reported that within 2 weeks regular exercisers have shown changes in mood, mindset and productivity.

How Do I Reverse It: Combat stress, depression and anxiety by using regular exercise as an instant mood booster! Some studies have even shown that exercise helps with your memory!

Get up and get moving, your “Improved Quality of Life” is waiting for you at your next training session!

Doctor Amazed By Health Results from Innovative Results Training For A Year

September 4, 2015 by Jessica Leave a Comment

Ankorr5

Below you will read the story from one of Innovative Results clients, and why his doctor was amazed by his health results.

The Innovative Results fitness gym and personal trainers care deeply about improving people’s quality of life, to include general health measured at annual doctor’s visits.

Read this client’s success story below…

Dear Innovative Results team:

I wanted to send you a hearty thank you for all that you do!

When I first came to Innovative Results fitness gym and personal trainers, my goal was to make it through 4 weeks of the training program without quitting or complaining and to diversify my physical fitness away from years of distance running for fitness.

Fitness gym in Orange CountyAfter 3 weeks at Innovative Results – The Orange County Fitness Playground, I was convinced that I could improve my fitness, and all around spirit, so I signed up for 6 months (for fear of being tempted to quit if I was on a month to month program).

Well, that was 2 ½ years ago!

My goals, which are posted at Innovative Results, are to push myself and continually improve my all around fitness and lifestyle.

Never in my wildest dreams did I consider my health readings. Last year, my doctor told me, my cholesterol and blood pressure levels were very high and he was concerned.

After that, I decided to change my workouts from three days to four days per week, to drink more water, watch my diet (nothing scientific) and get more sleep.

Gym in orange countyAt my most recent annual physical a few weeks ago, my doctor was amazed that my blood pressure and cholesterol levels dropped significantly to a very healthy level and exceeded his best case expectations, or predictions for me.

I’m now in the top percentage of health for guys my age (mid 40’s), a result I never thought possible.

In fact, I’m convinced these incredible improvements are a by-product of Innovative Results training program.

Thank you for all your great coaching, encouragement and unique training environment.

Next one best one!

Innovative Results workouts (known as fitness training program) are constantly improving, developing, and getting better for the most important person in our fitness playground–YOU.

Innovative Results training program rotate weekly and the entire training cycle (progression) changes every three weeks.

This allows us time to teach proper movement patterns for power, strength, endurance, and looks. This way we can actually see improvement in each area before moving to the next training cycle (progression).

This might sound a bit complex, but don’t worry, we’ve got you covered!

Typically, this is how one of our Fitness Training Program Sessions work…

roll your arches

1 – A Check-in

2 – A Huge Smile

3 – Followed By Several High-Fives, Hugs, and/or Hand Shakes

4 – A Coach Will Do a Quick Nutrition Journal Check-up, Adding Some Guidance if Needed.

(If You Show Up Early, You Get the Productive and Feel Good Techniques of Self-Myofascial Release, Foam Rolling, Trigger Point the Tight Spots)

We all have overactive, tight muscles that can affect how we move or feel.

Commonly, tight calves, Thighs, Hip-flexors, Upper Back, and Chest can wreak havoc on our posture and ability to move efficiently.

Addressing these areas before the workout can help alleviate common aches and pains, and increase our ability to move during the session.

AM Pushup Line5 – Warming Up the Engine

A good, dynamic warm up helps prevent injury.

We typically take about 10 minutes to do a variety of mobility drills, activation drills, crawling and locomotion to prepare our bodies for the workout.

This loosens up tight areas, activates the right muscles, raises our core temperature, teaches basic movement patterns and gets us primed to workout!

10456204_10152166202247045_2642158022243137564_n6 – Speed, Agility, Quickness and Testing Isn’t Just for Athletes

Moving quickly, reacting to outside stimuli, skipping, jumping, and sprinting are incredibly important for safe, healthy, and good human movement.

We use a variety of ladder drills, cone drills, hurdles and other games to get people moving quickly.

It might be a powerful triple jump for one person and a simple squat variation for another, but we help everyone work hard for their ability level.

We also ensure we are testing every session to make sure every person is improving in all the areas of fitness that they are trying to create (i.e. power, strength, endurance, weight, technique)

racked carry7 – Time to Get Strong

This piece of our training session builds muscle, helping us get stronger, build lean body mass, and improve our metabolic engines.

We squat, lunge, hinge, push, pull, climb, crawl, carry, and drag.

The human body is designed to move in a LOT of different ways, so our training sessions involve much more than bench press and curls.

We use barbells, kettlebells, sandbags, bodyweight, heavy barrels, chains, steel maces, steel clubs and many other tools to challenge our members.

Exercises, body position, rep ranges, time under tension, load positioning, tempo and many other factors help us change things up and keep our bodies guessing.

810 sidewinder8 – Breath Heavy, Increase Your Heart Rate, and Sweat a Bit

Conditioning, circuits, High Intensity Interval Training, and similar workouts have become very popular these days.

While they can be beneficial, if used correctly, we tend to keep most of the conditioning work at the end of each workout.

Our conditioning pieces can be short and explosive; longer and less intense; or somewhere in the middle.

This variety help train all three of our basic energy systems, while helping our nervous, cardiovascular, muscular, and metabolic systems to run more efficiently.

CB mobility9 – Stretch, Roll and Recover…aaaah

Static stretching at the end of our workout helps shut the muscles down and start the recovery process.

We’ve just stimulated the body and stretching helps us stay loose, helps us cool down and starts the recovery process.

We also use trigger point techniques and deep breathing to assist in this recovery process.

Here is a quick list of what we do at Innovative Results for our Fitness Training Programs:

1 – Check-In.

2 – HUGE Smiles!

3 – High Fives, Hand shakes, and Hugs!

4 – Quick Nutrition Journal Check.

5 – Warm-up!

6 – SAQ, Activation, and Testing.

7 – Get Strong, Build Lean Muscle, and Build our Metabolic Engine!

The workouts here are not only challenging but functional and fun! The very reason I stopped working out in a regular gym was because I was tired of lifting weights and doing cardio and many of my other friends trained me in the same fashion. They became monotonous and boring and I rarely looked forward to them. At IR, the workouts are creative and no two are ever the same. It doesn’t feel like working out even though you are definitely working up a sweat! I am NOT a morning workout person, yet I wake up excited to get to my 6am workout. Always recharged, energized and refreshed after my workouts… – Christina

The workouts are fun, functional, tailored to your physical abilities and are held almost every hour of the day, necessary for me since my work hours can fluctuate. Inside of two weeks, I saw results that in my physique that I hadn’t seen in years. Just try it…you’ll never look back. – Sharif

7 Ways Exercise Improves Your Self-Confidence

October 25, 2008 by ptpt 3 Comments

Do you want to feel better, inside and out, have more energy and perhaps even live longer? Well look no further these 7 Ways Exercise Improves Your Self-Confidence!

The benefits of exercise, from preventing chronic health conditions to boosting confidence and self-esteem, are hard to ignore. And these benefits are yours for the taking, regardless of age, sex or physical ability. Need more convincing? Check out these seven specific ways exercise can improve your confidence, brain health and life.

7 Ways Exercise will Improve Your Self-Confidence

1. Exercise improves your mood.
Need to blow off some steam after a stressful day? A workout at the gym or a brisk 30-minute walk can help you calm down.
Exercise stimulates various brain chemicals, which may leave you feeling happier and more relaxed than you were before you worked out. You’ll also look better and feel better when you exercise regularly, which can boost your confidence and improve your self-esteem. Exercise even reduces feelings of depression and anxiety. Medical studies have shown exercise improves thinking and memory. Physical activity combined with a fitness training regiment not only increases cardio vascular and muscular health, by boosting blood flow and elevating growth hormones, but also shows significant increases in vigor and clear thinking.

2. Exercise combats chronic diseases.
Worried about heart disease? Hoping to prevent osteoporosis? Regular exercise is the ticket.
Regular exercise can help you prevent – or manage – high blood pressure. Your cholesterol will benefit, too. Regular exercise boosts high-density lipoprotein (HDL), or “good,” cholesterol while decreasing low-density lipoprotein (LDL), or “bad,” cholesterol. This one-two punch keeps your blood flowing smoothly by lowering the buildup of plaque in your arteries.
And there’s even more. Regular exercise can help you prevent type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis and certain types of cancer.

3. Exercise helps you manage your weight.
Want to drop those excess pounds? Trade some tv/couch time for walking or other physical activities.
This one’s a no-brainer. When you exercise, you burn calories. The more intensely you exercise, the more calories you burn – and the easier it is to keep your weight under control. You don’t even need to set aside major chunks of time for working out. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Walk during your lunch break. Do jumping jacks during commercials. Better yet, turn off your TV and take a brisk walk. Dedicated workouts are excellent, but activity you accumulate throughout the day helps you burn calories, too.

4. Exercise strengthens your heart and lungs.
Winded by grocery shopping or household chores? Don’t throw in the towel. Regular exercise can leave you breathing easier.
Exercise delivers oxygen and nutrients to your tissues. In fact, regular exercise helps your entire cardiovascular system – the circulation of blood through your heart and blood vessels – work more efficiently. When your heart and lungs work more efficiently, you’ll have more energy to do the things you enjoy.

5. Exercise promotes better sleep.
Struggling to fall asleep? Or stay asleep? It might help to boost your physical activity during the day.
A good night’s sleep can improve your concentration, productivity and mood. And, you guessed it; exercise is sometimes the key to better sleep. Regular exercise can help you fall asleep faster and deepen your sleep. The timing is up to you – but if you’re having trouble sleeping, you might want to try late afternoon workouts. The natural dip in body temperature five to six hours after you exercise might help you fall asleep.

6. Exercise can put the spark back into your sex life.
Are you too tired to have sex? Or feeling too out of shape to enjoy physical intimacy? Exercise to the rescue.
Regular exercise can leave you feeling energized and looking better, which may have a positive effect on your sex life. But there’s more to it than that. Exercise improves your circulation, which can lead to more satisfying sex. And men who exercise regularly are less likely to have problems with erectile dysfunction than are men who don’t exercise, especially as they get older.

Wondering what to do on a Saturday afternoon? Looking for an activity that suits the entire family? Get physical!
Exercise doesn’t have to be boring or monotonous . Take a ballroom dancing class. Check out a local climbing wall or hiking trail. Push your kids on the swings or climb with them on the jungle gym. Plan a neighborhood kickball or touch football game. Find an activity you enjoy, and go for it. If you get bored, try something new. If you’re moving, it counts!
