In April 2013 I most unfortunately broke my right leg in three places during a long roller derby practice on the banked track. I have been lucky enough with dodging injuries, never so much a sprain or stitches… then I went and had this huge compound fracture. With a plate and 9 screws permanently holding me together, I was determined to heal quickly and not let it keep me down for long.
Most people go to physical therapy and they say with a break like mine, it can take up to a year to really get back the balance and range of motion. My doctor recommended for me just doing some stretching at home, no formal PT. Being a RN I knew what I needed to do, but it’s different since I’m on the patient side of things. After 4 months I started back at yoga to work on my balance and general strength. So much was lost in such a short amount of time, being in a cast for 6 weeks and a boot for another month after that. I thought I was doing great on my own, then my boyfriend suggested I go see Innovative Results’ Corey Beasley a few times a week to supplement my own routine.
His expertise was apparent at my first session, working 1 on 1 with me and giving me the tools I needed to test my abilities and then take it a step further. I didn’t realize how shoty my balance was at that point until he put me through some routines I never tried before.
The next time I was working out with the group, only doing the things I could do and what he felt was safe. As I looked around I noticed Corey and the other trainers knew everyone by name, they all understand why we are there and what we need to work on. I love the individual attention I have received, but I also have the need to be surrounded by others for encouragement to push harder.
I’ve been at Innovative Results with Corey and his team for 2 months now and I am amazed at the progress I have made in this short period of time.
My balance is significantly improved, I’m getting the strength training I can’t get with yoga, and I’m feeling over all better about myself. I never knew whipping around an enormous rope which looks like it came off the Jolly Roger could be so exhausting, challenging, and fun!
