Fitness Motivation Is About More Than Physical Results, Just Ask Jeff!

October 6, 2017 by Jessica 6 Comments

JeffSchofieldToday Innovative Results is stoked to highlight soccer stud, and director of the LA Galaxy South Bay College Prep Program for girls, Jeff Schofield!

When did you start training at Innovative Results?
I started in November of 2014

Why did you start training with Innovative Results?
I started training there because I was looking for something different than running and going to the gym on my own. Being a former collegiate athlete I missed the intensity of workouts, energy of exercising with other like-minded people, and motivation of coach/trainer. I chose Innovative Results because it worked perfectly with my schedule. I teach during the day and then am a soccer coach at night so I needed something early afternoon and their large number of class times worked well for me.

What have you improved since you started training with Innovative Results?
Of course, I have improved many physical aspects such as speed, strength, increased core strength, lower body fat, and my clothes fit better. It also improved many aspects of my life in addition to the physical. I enjoyed setting goals and working hard to attain them. I enjoyed the relationships I built with the other clients and trainers. I improved my self-image and confidence.

What kept you coming back to Innovative Results?
It is a competitive and motivating environment that includes unique exercises that are very functional for everyday life. I also enjoy that you do a certain set of exercises for 3 weeks, which allows you to set goals for that period and try to improve at those exercises before they change it for the next set of 3 weeks.

How has Innovative Results improved the other areas of your life (i.e. work, relationships, finances, education)?
I have mainly used the knowledge and exercise for my job in coaching soccer and as a PE teacher. There are so many ways to strengthen and increase mobility and flexibility using just body weight and I have adapted a lot of what I do at IR to my teams and classes. This last year I started at a new school and their percent of students that pass the Physical Fitness Test was 44%. I did a lot of exercises that I use at IR to help them improve. For students, they need a variety of exercises to prepare for the test not just the same push ups, sit-ups, mile run, etc. As a result, my students passed at a 73% rate. I credit IR for providing me the tools to help my students.

What advice do you have for someone who is just getting started with Innovative Results?
It is going to be challenging at first. You will be sore and some of the exercises you won’t quite get immediately, but have an open mind and stay with it. Before you know it, you will be one of the regulars that is encouraging the new people.

How has your life changed since you started training at Innovative Results?
I feel better physically which improves all aspects of life. I used to wake up in the morning and was in pain as I would get out of bed. That pain is gone and I am able to play soccer more consistently without being sore or in pain.

Who would you want to experience what you get to experience at Innovative Results?
I think anybody that is looking to improve their health should come and be a part of IR. There is every kind of client there from teenagers, elite athletes, former athletes, to injured clients. The workouts can be adapted for you to make it challenging for everyone and to get out of it what you want.

Why do you stay committed to your improvement in and out of the gym?
I realize that life is much more enjoyable when you are pain free and mentally it is good to challenge yourself.

Can you relate to Jeff’s story? We’d love to hear from you!

creating yourself

Finding the motivation to make a change is an ever elusive creature, taking us to the depths of despair and the highest mountain peaks.

As Zig Ziglar says, “People say motivation doesn’t last, and I say, ‘neither does bathing, which is why we should do it daily!'”

Everyone is looking to make some positive changes in their lives, but not every is actually able to make them and stick with them. I want to help you do both today with this motivation resource.

If you can make one small improvement, and keep it for the rest of your life, you will be on step further than most of the population on this planet of ours.

Motivations and goals are different, but when used together they are powerful beyond measure for great change and improvements in our life!!

So, how do you make your motivations and goals stick?

Why do most people make goals now and then forget about them a few weeks later?

I believe it has a lot to do with how those people set goals and how important those goals are to them in the first place.

So where do you start?

WAKSCawardsHere are some cool resources and articles to help get on the right track:

  • How to set goals
  • How to find motivation

Motivation: The Three Steps to Success – Explained By Innovative Results Fitness Coach

August 3, 2015 by Jessica 1 Comment

Motivation
By Madison Murphy

Motivation is such an important part of everything we do. Whether it’s getting out of bed in the morning or working out, there’s something inside that motivates you. At Innovative Results we break motivation into three parts: present self, goals, and reason.

10343525_10152108795307045_8922711973911952964_n

Present Self is an honest evaluation of yourself right now which includes
• Body measurements
• Fitness measurements
• Athletic measurements
• Mindset

How are you right now? Be honest but not judgmental. You have already evaluated yourself, at least somewhat, and decided to improve you quality of life by coming to Innovative Results. Motivation starts by evaluating your Present Self.

Goals are an awesome way to get motivated. They give you something to constantly work towards and look forward to. At Innovative Results we make S.M.A.R.T goals:
• Specific810 step
• Measurable
• Attainable
• Realistic
• Time Bound

You set goals after you honestly evaluate yourself presently to keep working hard and stay motivated. If you set goals and determine to reach them, then you accomplish what you are striving for.

Reasons are why you want to accomplish the goals you set. It’s important to have reasons why you want to achieve your goals to be clear that you really want what you say you want. Some of the reasons why people are motivated to train at IR are:
• Improved quality of life
• Increased fitness
• Increased functional strength
• Reduction of weight/body fat

While it may seem that motivation is term that is hard to define, by dividing it into three sub parts, it becomes much clearer. Knowing that: Present Self, Goals and Reasons are all components of motivation gives you tools to accomplish your goals.

Down 5% Body Fat, Jim’s ABC’s Received an Uplifting Remix

July 20, 2012 by ptpt 3 Comments

Jim’s consistency has landed him on the Battling Ropes Wall (20+ minutes) and a spot on the IR Blog!

Here is Jim’s Transformation Story:

Thank you for the “Team Challenge” (reference to Innovative Results’s February 2012 Transformation Challenge). I have been coming to Innovative Results for about 3 months and was hesitant to join a team for this challenge. I am 42 and have always kept in pretty good shape up until October 2010 when I tore my ACL, meniscus, and cartilage playing basketball resulting in surgery. I had ACL reconstruction and repair on my meniscus and woke up to find I also went through a micro fracture procedure which left me non-weight bearing for 6 weeks and slowed my physical therapy and recovery. After six months I was probably in the worst shape in my life.

From day one at Innovative Results Aaron opened my eyes to training methods I never even knew about. I learned about having the right mindset, proper movement, and intentional recovery. I have worked out hard and Aaron has always been concerned for my bad knee. It was hard setting goals for the challenge. I figured if I just sets goals to see some improvement in each of the testing areas and that would be good enough for me. What I didn’t consider was the mindset improvements that would come with this challenge. The accountability was huge. I loved the emails and being pushed by any and everyone that knew I was a part of the challenge. The main improvements for me have been nutrition and consistency with my workouts. No more soda or junk food. It is all because the change in my mindset. I found that I need to be challenged. ABC, A – always, B – be, C – challenged, “always be challenged! ALWAYS BE CHALLENGED!!!” Keep the emails coming. Keep pushing me. I will keep setting goals, reach those goals and be in the best shape of my life.

In February’s challenge Jim dropped 5.4lbs, and 5% Body Fat helping his team take 2nd Place in the Team Transformation Challenge!  Now coming up on his 9th month with Innovative Results he is setting and achieving goals, AND getting his name up on the Innovative Results achievement walls!!

It’s Time For a Change – 5 Steps To a New You

May 9, 2010 by ptpt 2 Comments

Do You Believe Everything You Read in Magazines or Hear on TV?

Get Abs like Brittney Spears

Learn how Jessica Alba develops her perfect Behind

Get Guns the Size of Texas

Just 15 minutes a day….

You’ve all seen it, but do you really believe it?

Unfortunately, most people do believe that these are the real answers that will lead them to the body of their dreams.  The truth is, the models you see in magazines and on tv have been dieting down for weeks and have been working out for years!  This “Do this workout and look like this model” implication is rediculous and it makes people crazy.

So many people I hear, see and work with in the gym want fast results.  They want to do the minimal amount of work, they don’t want to train for years, but they want to look amazing in 4 weeks.

How many infomercials have suckered you in?

The good news is that your body CAN CHANGE QUICKLY, but you have to be prepared to make some changes!

Got a wedding or big event in 3 months?

Going to a class reunion?

Need to fit in a bikini before your big vacation?

STEP #1 Find Your Motivation

Motivation gets you started and keeps you going, so make it count.  Why do you want to change?  The more emotional, the better! The most dramatic changes I have seen recently were from my brides that were training for their weddings.  They were motivated by the thought of looking great on the BIG DAYS!

Write it down and keep it close to you.

STEP #2 Food is FUEL

Americans eating habits are the cause of obesity, period.  If you want dramatic change, then you will need to overhaul your eating habits.  My suggestion is to download our Shopping List, Lean Eating Plan and our Food Log.  You will need to reference these on a daily basis, until you develop new eating habits. Here are three main eating tips to get you started:

1.  Get bad foods out of your house! If they are around, you will eat them.

2. Do not drink calories.  Water and tea are your best choices.

3. Start packing your lunch and snacks.  Having good food ready is your key to success.

STEP #3 The best workout for you is the one you’re not doing

What?  There are two groups of people to address here:

Most people don’t workout at all, so they just need to blow their ass off the couch and do something.  Go for a walk, take the stairs, climb a hill, go for a swim, go for a bike ride, etc.  You can do this stuff before work, at lunch or after work.  The goal is just to start moving.

The other group is the people who are relatively active, but they are stuck in a rut.  They move, but they’ve been doing the exact same workout for years.  I hear it all the time…

“I’ve been running two miles a day for 5 years and I’m just not losing any weight.”

Our bodies are amazing at adapting.  While a simple walk may be tough at first, it will become easier and you will have to change it up.  Most people who workout do the same workouts every week, whether they are in the gym or not.  Gym rats will do the same body part, with the same movements, at the same weight for years!  Runner’s will do the same route, at the same pace…..well, you get the picture.

So, how long has it been since your workout had an overhaul?

Need ideas? Check out this article:

8 Ways to Turbo Charge Your Workouts

STEP #4 Take Some Time OFF!

Everyone these days wakes up early for work, rushes out of the house, scrambles to work, stresses out all day, fights thru traffic, races the kids to activities, shovels food in on the way home, plops on the couch, tries to relax, then can’t go to sleep because they are so busy.  Sound familiar?

You need to take time for yourself.  Time to think or time to allow yourself to recuperate and re energize.  It can be a simple as a walk outside, a book by the pool, a massage, 30 minutes in the garden, an art or craft, a movie, a drive in the car, etc.  The bottom line is that you need to find activities that relax your mind and schedule them into your calendar.

STEP #5 You Need a Support Team

All major changes require a team.  Working out, changing your eating and developing healthier habits are no different.  You need to surround yourself with like minded people to give yourself a fighting chance.  Gather up your friends, family, coworkers and start walking through these steps.  If that doesn’t work, maybe you need to hire a coach or personal trainer to help you develop these new habits.  The key is to find people that will encourage you and help you along the way.

Change does not have to be difficult, you just need to understand that change takes time.  You need to be ready for long term commitment, but also need to schedule short term victories.  Make small changes at first and allow yourself to gain momentum.  As you make better choices, you will naturally start to notice improvements in your body and mind.  Celebrate your small victories and stay focused on your goals.

If you have any questions about starting or changing your program, please let us know.  You can submit questions to the “ask a trainer” box in the upper right of  this page or give us a call.

We are always happy to help!
