4 Workouts That Will Keep You Going All Year

February 13, 2017 by Jessica 2 Comments

Article By: Paige Johnson, Learnfit.org

In exercise, a lot of people tend to develop the habit of sticking to what works for them. However as with anything, all things change —including your body and what it needs to thrive. If you allow your muscles to become accustomed to your workout routine with little to no variety, you will begin to see little to no results. Little to no results will in turn lead to frustration and inactivity, which is never the goal! This year take the time to add variety to your existing fitness regimen and watch as your body changes along with you!

Join a jogging clubincrease focus, increase speed, eliminate meds, lose weight, gain muscle, get fast, Innovative Results, training

The benefits of jogging are tremendous and one of the best ways to yield results in your overall health and wellbeing. Jogging improves your cardiovascular fitness, strengthens your bones and it aids in maintaining a healthy weight. If you are new to jogging or just trying to find ways to spruce up your routine, joining a joggers group may be just the right step for you! You may find a runners club sponsored by your local sports store or you can form one in your own neighborhood! The primary foundation of a running group is to meet one or two times a week and run a select distance as a group. The encouragement and team response you will receive from participating in such a group will prove to be beneficial to your general mood as well as your health. The accountability that comes with running in a group also will assist you in maximizing your fitness efforts to attain better results!

Try a spin class

Spinning, a specific format of indoor cycling, is a exercise routine that has quickly made its way around the world. As you ride on a stationary cycling bike under the supervision of a certified spinning instructor, your heart rate will shoot up which in return allows you to sweat, burn a sustainable amount of calories and improve your lower body strength. Most spin classes typically last an hour or less and can be taken at your local gym or fitness facility. Classes are uptempo and accompanied with loud, adrenaline pumping music. Be sure to bring a towel for sweat and plenty of water! Consider bringing a friend to enjoy the new experience with you!

Practice yoga

Yoga is not your typical heart racing type of exercise, however if done properly the benefits practicing are amazing. The practice of yoga originated in India and has widespread across the globe as a phenomenal way to improve your mental and physical health and wellness. Physical benefits of yoga include increased core strength, increased flexibility and weight reduction. The mental benefits of yoga sharpens your concentration, helps you de-stress and also increases body awareness.

Start using weights

Jennifer Lifting with Kettlebell

The use of weights, also known as strength training is a wildly successful way to add more value to your fitness efforts. The use of weights create a compound called resistance, which can be explained as using your muscles to work against the extra pounds. Weight training helps you burn calories more efficiently than traditional exercise and it also reduces body fat. The best way to become introduced to strength training is by acquiring a personal trainer to allow yourself to see maximum results and avoid potential injuries. It doesn’t hurt to get some equipment for your home either.

Incorporating one or more of these exercises into your routine will be more than enough to keep your fitness goals on track throughout the year. Adding variety is the best way to ensure that you are getting the most out of your efforts, and it will keep you from inactivity due to boredom. Keep your routine fun and fresh by stepping outside of your workout habits and begin to enjoy the fittest, healthiest version of yourself!

If you are ready to start a new training program, whether it be running, strength training, yoga or all of the above – Go ahead and fill out the form below and one of our Innovative Results Personal Trainers will contact you to discuss your training goals!

Irvine Personal Trainer Solves Your Weight Loss Resolution

December 31, 2016 by ptpt 26 Comments

GirlsLC_pagsIrvine Personal Trainer Solves the New Year’s Resolution, To Lose Weight, with Simplicity, Automation, and Delegation

By: Aaron Guyett

The idea is to win or succeed in all of your endeavors and desires, and if you lose or fail, learning should occur to win the next time. This idea and the novel idea that all that has happened in the past is done and over, it can only be used to make better decisions for the future and to create the “right” actions, thoughts and words in the present. I think more than making the “right” decisions is being happy with the decisions made. So there is a one question to ask yourself before you continue. If you want to win…what is the emotion or reason behind the supposed #1 New Year’s Resolution, to lose weight?

If the reason or emotion is deep seeded enough, and the visualization of your success brings about happiness, let’s make your dreams come true!

jeff_laurie lunge

First, let’s simplify.

Losing weight is as simple as calories in and calories out. If this is true scientifically, you need only create thoughts, actions, and words to create a caloric deficit. How will you do this? Magic number 5:

  1. Write down your current situation specifically, with as many details as possible.
  2. Write down your goal specifically with as many details as possible. Now put away number one, and don’t look at it until March. Put your goal everywhere you look. When you see it remind yourself OUT LOUD what you are doing and why you are doing it (refer to the emotion or reason for the New Year’s Resolution).
  3. Know you can do it! (If you can’t get past this, than stop wasting your time reading this article)
  4. Become conscious of what you eat! (Write it all down. Everything that you put in you mouth liquid or solid, and know the calories) Journaling your diet is more of a mental task for yourself. If you don’t do it, hang up the resolution.
  5. Become active! Kill your TV, computer, (insert your biggest time waster here), and get outside and move! If you need help with this, email info@innovative-results.com.

Now it is time to automate.

Automation frees up time for you to do other things besides calculate calories and prepare meal plans. Two ways to do this:

  1. Get a trainer to do it for you. Email us at info@innovative-results.com
  2. Get an app (myfitnesspal is my favorite) and start recording your nutrition, hydration, and workouts. You will still need self-discipline. They will help you out, and it is free!

Last but not least delegate.

Delegation of your responsibilities, accountability, and discipline is a sure fire way to keep the flame burning bright and hot! 5 ways to delegate, what the delegation is:

  1. Accountability, responsibility, and disciplined can be delegated to a trainer and the trainer should help instill self-accountability, responsibility, and discipline.
  2. Family should hold you accountable to your goals. Be sure to describe the task they will be holding for you, because they love you and want you to succeed. If this is not the case with your family, fire them and make a new one.
  3. Friends should provide the same accountability systems as your family, if they are not on track with you, then your success should live with their uninvolved, unhelpful lives somewhere else.
  4. Co-workers cannot be fired, but they can be warned of the money that is involved should they adhere to your requests. Don’t have money? Tell them you are in a huge competition, and if you win you can take two people on a trip to the Cayman Islands. Hmmmm…who should I pick? (You might not win the competition, but you will win some hearts and minds for the time it takes you to get to your goal—maybe even some cheerleaders)
  5. Once you get to your goals you may rehire your lost family members, friends, and trainer for the spread of your newly acquired outlook on life. You did it!

7 Tips To Keep Holiday Weight Off This Year From Innovative Results

November 13, 2016 by IR Staff 2 Comments

Most people will gain 5-10 lbs between the beginning of November and the New Year!

Are Holidays Making You Fat?

Most people will allow parties, dinners, shopping and other distractions ‘sideline’ them for 2 months…

Start today and make a decision to stay on track with your fitness goals.

Remember why you started making these changes: improve quality of life, live for your kids, enjoy activities, breath easier, or look better for your significant other.

What still needs to change?

Picture it, write it down and make it a priority.

Dana Point personal trainersWhat can you do to stay on track?

Here are 7 Tips to Keep Holiday Weight Off  This Year- Adopt three or so of the following strategies:

  1. Use the appetizer plate for dinner.  (smaller plate)
  2. Put only two items on your plate during any given trip to the table. Return as many times as you like, but only take two items each time.
  3. Use the volume approach to make yourself feel full.  Chow down on the big healthy stuff (broccoli and carrots) and then see if you have room for the rest.
  4. When you think you will be distracted by an important (or fun) conversation, set the food down and give it your full attention.  Remember, the more you’re distracted by people or events–the Superbowl—perhaps– the more you will tend to eat unknowingly.
  5. If you are really worried about overeating at a cocktail party or buffet-style meal, arrive late or leave early.  If you show up late, most of the good stuff will be gone.  Leave early and you will make it easier to avoid a second (or third) helping of dessert.
  6. Don’t wear comfortable clothing to a party! Wear your tightest dress or pants and then put a belt on top. You’ll not only look hot, you’ll know exactly when you’ve eaten too much.
  7. Stick to your healthy eating habits 80-90% of the time, then plan cheat meals (parties).

A healthy body comes from healthy eating.

Gym in Costa Mesa, CAStay Active!

Stick to your workout plan during the holidays.

Most people let shopping, parties and everything else throw them into a tail spin.

Plan your workouts into your day and make them a priority.

Location or lack of a gym is NOT an excuse.

If you’ll take this info and apply it, you will avoid gaining weight this holiday season.

If you have specific questions or concerns, talk to your coach.

Benefits of The Power Wheel – Innovative Results Fitness Coach Writes His Perspective With Six Power Wheel Exercises

July 11, 2016 by IR Staff 2 Comments

Mark Elmasry Demonstrates the Power Wheel glute bridge.

By Mark Elmasry

When you activate small and large muscle groups by using body weight with slow movements or isometrics, but what about a way to dynamically activate the most important muscle groups?

There is always a way to simplify and regress the basic activation drills, but how do we progress and add difficulty to any of those exercises?

Meet the Power Wheel.

The Power Wheel is a great tool that every body shape and size can use. It is a safe piece of equipment to use for exercise where we can minimize the risk of injury. If there exercise exacerbates certain potentially injurious movements, all the subject has to do is stop, without dropping any dangerous amount of weights or any bulky gym equipment.

Six Power Wheel Exercises

Most important highlighted feature of this tool is that it pin points specific postural muscle groups statically or dynamically in such a short period of time. You want an exercise tool that will shred your abs and tone your entire body with just a short 5 – 10 minute workout a few times a week; well you have to include the power wheel.

power wheelThe power wheel can regress a dead-lift to just a simple hinge off of the floor and make anyone shake and tremble or take a basic plank and make it exponentially more difficult to maintain a neutral as their face drips with beads of sweat.

To simplify the bio-mechanics behind why this piece of equipment is so challenging is because it is so unstable while you are affixed to it, whether it be gripping the handles with white knuckles or strapping your feet in like it is an adventure sport. After you are fastened to the Power Wheel and chose your exercise, it is further made deceptively more wobbly by the free rolling wheel. While the wheel moves it is strenuous just to maintain a neutral spine and therefore recruits substantially more muscle cells from our abdominal group than any other body weight floor exercise.

power wheel crawlThe Power Wheel is an efficient and highly effective tool. Every level of exercise enthusiast can safely utilize this tool with minimal to zero risk of injury. Lastly the Power Wheel targets every necessary postural muscle group, entire abdominal wall, obliques, serratus anterior, intercostals, transverse abdominis, spinal erectors, lats, hip extensors, flexors, and add/abductors, hamstrings, glutes and quads and the rest of your structure completely.

Everyone should be using this awesome piece of equipment!

8 Reasons Why Failure is the Key to Success – Orange County Fitness Playground

October 5, 2015 by Jessica 2 Comments

The dreaded “F” word…

FAILURE

Here at The Orange County Fitness Playground, the coaches and clients have shared their failure moments more than once, but every time they do, they get closer and closer to their success.

Experiencing SUCCESS on your first attempt is rare, hence the saying “beginners luck.”

And we’d bet that this “luck” did not result in finding your dream career, beautiful partner, or any item that you consider “priceless” in your life.

Life’s bumps and bruises are what you need to achieve YOUR goals.

Pick the Brain recently posted a great article on the importance of experiencing failure, and why you are actually succeeding each time you feel the weight of “failure” and we couldn’t agree more.

8 Reasons Why Failure is the Key to Success:

  1. It can be a good lesson for youthephoenix
  2. Failing makes you realize if you really want this
  3. Mistakes build your character
  4. It is a chance to try something new
  5. It gives you an opportunity to grow
  6. Mistakes help you meet new people
  7. It makes you revise your priorities
  8. I makes you understand that you are not superman

Establish Your SMART Goals & Start Achieving Fitness Results

October 17, 2014 by ptpt Leave a Comment

Earlier this week Innovative Results set out on a SMART Goal mission 🙂

10151298_10154652677210156_1928303503594648985_n

A mission that will benefit not only Innovative Results clients, but all of you in our extended family of readers!

This year is the year WE “ambush the Holidays”, and fight Holiday weight gain.

If you have not yet read Don’t Let the Holidays Pack on the Pounds This Year we recommend you do so now.

After reading the IR Blog above, you will have a great outline of how answering a few questions for YOURSELF will help hold you accountable, and help you find support in your peers by sharing your SMART Goal.  Below is an incredible example of how to use this blog to get you to your goals.

JaredCharity

Jared Charity started training at the Innovative Results Facility in May 2014.  Since his first day, it has been Jared’s devotion to his routine and commitment to his goals that has brought him incredible fitness results.  The IR Family is thrilled to be Jared’s accountability partner in his journey to success!

What is the best thing you do for improving your quality of life with Innovative Results?

Workout at IR holds me accountable to working out! It provides me with a unique team environment I have not been able to find since I stopped playing football in college. The staff at IR is always willing to help you out in anyway possible with nutrition and exercise advice.

How do you manage your sleep, nutrition, stress level, and hydration?

I have started getting up early every morning to workout. This helps me get to sleep better at night. I try and get at least 8 hours of sleep, but that doesn’t always seem to happen. I use the myfitnesspal app to manage my nutrition intake and a garmin vivofit band to track my fitness output. I stopped drinking anything, but water. Occasionally I will have a monster absolute 0 when I need a little something extra. I manage my stress through my workouts. Working out allows me to clear my mind and focus on myself.

Why is improving your quality of life important to you?

Improving my quality of line if important to me because I want to to live a long healthy life. I come from a family that has struggled with weight. My mother, sister and aunts have all had gastric bypass to help them loose weight, but I want to do it without surgery. I want to be around to see any kids I have in the future grow up and be able to play with them.

It is obvious from the first moment you trained at Innovative Results that we believe in you, and we believe in your improved quality of life. I want to help you on a deeper level with all aspects of your health:
· Nutrition Plan
· Hydration Plan
· Stress Reduction
· Sleep Plan and Circadian Rhythms
· Motivation
· Support
· Goal Setting
· SMR and Stretches
· Outside Workouts

The best way for me to help you is for you to take a moment and establish a SMART Goal to end this year on the best note you can. Here is how the SMART Goal works:Jared & Crew

S-Specific
M-Measurable
A-Attainable
R-Relevant
T-Time-bound

This is Jared’s response:

I want to try and get down to 275 or under. I know with my build anything over that will be a struggle. I would also like to tone down and loose the “moobs” and love handles that I have had forever.

I will track my weight using myfitnesspal. I weigh myself once a week. I also track various measurements, like waist size and chest size, to see if these are dropping as well.

I would like to think that a weight of 275 is obtainable for me. I am also pushing myself to get at least 45-60 min of cardio in each day.

This fits perfectly in my life currently. However, 2 months ago I could not have said the same thing. Since I started at IR I have seen a positive change in myself for the better and this change has been spilling into other various aspects of my life outside of IR

I would like to see these results ASAP, but know that baby steps will be needed. I have my wedding coming up in March of 2015 and would like to be at my target weight or at least very close to it by then.

Send us your SMART Goal, and IR is overjoyed to walk this out with you over the next few months!
