I hate to fly for more than 3 hours. The seats are small, uncomfortable and I tend to get a little crazy when I have to sit for that long. This last Thanksgiving I went back to Chicago to visit my family. As I eagerly awaited my 4 hour flight home, I decided to buy a book. While glancing over titles and covers, I stumbled across a book called The Fighter’s Mind: Inside the Mental Game.
I gotta admit that I was a little skeptical at first, because of the tons of unrealistic movies and other stuff that comes out about martial arts in general, but after reviewing the summary, I was hooked.
Sam Sherdian traveled the globe and spent time 15 of the top coaches, fighters and other combat athletes. His interest was not their technique or conditioning, but their mentallity. Dan Gable, Freddy Roach, Mark DellaGrotte, Marcelo Garcia and several others are interviewed.
How did these elite athletes think?
What makes them so dominant in their sport? While being physically dominant is important, being mentally strong, prepared and confident is usually the deciding factor in most battles.
Needless to say, I started reading before the plan took off and didn’t blink an eye until I landed in Orange County 4 hours later. This book dives into some of the most intriguing minds of the fight world and allows you to see what drives some of these elite athletes to greatness. If you are competitive at all, this will be a fascinating read.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in the fight game or anyone just interested in competition, combat or athletics in general.
