Lacrosse Athlete Gains Explosive Power & Endurance by Training at Innovative Results

September 18, 2017 by Jessica 1 Comment

emilycannonToday Innovative Results’ is highlighting one of our incredible student-athletes, Emily Cannon.

This young lady’s dedication, persistence, and strength is beyond compare. The Innovative Results Team cannot wait to see what is in store for Emily’s future, and athletic career!

Here is Emily’s Testimonial Interview given by Manny Aragon(MA) for Innovative Results.

MA: When did you start coming to Innovative Results (IR)?

Emily: Last year when I got my license.

MA: 2016?

Emily: Yeah.

MA: Why did you start training here (at IR)?

Emily: Because my dad went and he explained the workouts and I thought it looked fun. So I came. I did try it out before 2016 with my dad.

MA: What would you say has changed in your life from your training?

Emily: My endurance. And all around strength.

MA: So- what does that look like? You play sports- correct?

Emily: Yes. In Lacrosse I notice a difference in my endurance- in keeping up in the game.

MA: So what position do you play? Attack? image3

Emily: Yes. Attack. I’m staying in longer, I don’t get tired as easily and I don’t need as many breaks as I used to. (Ed. Note: Attack is a strength endurance position requiring bursts of explosive speed and power). My leg muscles keep me powering through.

MA: And what’s kept you coming back?

Emily: I like all of the trainers- they’re fun and its not boring workouts- I’m not, I’m not DREADING the workout, its FUN!

MA: How has IR contributed to success in other parts of your life?

Emily: Ummm Its kept me MOTIVATED. My dad and I always use the #IRstrong saying whether its homework im doing- My dad always says “IR strong Emily- you can do it”– and I say “Yeah, I CAN do it!” (laughs) “Yeah.”

MA: What advice would you have for someone who is new here?

Emily: Don’t be scared that you can’t do something- there is always modifications. And its not embarrassing if you’re not as strong as other people.

MA: Who would you want to experience what you’ve experienced here at IR?

Emily: My sister. She wants to start coming here. And I want her to experience what I’ve experienced.

MA: What do you think she’ll get out of it?

Emily: People skills. Being with people who you’re not normally with. I’m never with old people- so now I’m like used to it…

MA: Why do you stay committed to IR?

Emily: Because I look good. I’ve gotten toned- I like it.

MA: Have other people noticed?

Emily: Um-Hmm.

MA: In what way? Positive?

Emily: Yes. Positive.

MA: Anything else to add?

Emily: (pointing at the camera) “I LOVE Innovative Results!”

BOOM!

How Does IR Create YOUR Workout

Progressions are the foundation of the Innovative results fitness program.

They are built to ensure that all clients have their needs met, whether those needs are fat loss, muscle gains, or just to get moving. However it goes deeper than just words on a paper telling the IR Training Team what workout to do. The mechanics of movement progress in the following order, Mobility, Stability, Endurance, Strength, and then Power.

Mobility is first because without it you do not have the range of motion to simply stay grounded enough to create stability, endurance, strength, and power. Imagine having a sprained ankle, the reason why you limp is because all of the swelling has taken any range of motion you had before and made it immobile.

Stability comes second because, now that you are lacking mobility in that hurt ankle you cannot put any pressure on it to stabilize yourself. They go hand in hand, so you must fix one to help the other.

Next on our list is endurance, the reason endurance is so vital for any athlete or person getting in shape is because without the right amount of endurance you can’t push yourself to your maximum limits.instagram 5

For example, say we have a 300lb guy who realistically should be able to squat a lot of weight due to his own mass, right? Well, if he lacks endurance we could have him do 1 rep with just a little weight, or even his own body weight and he will become fatigued or “gassed out.” Without that endurance to even lift his body weight he cannot build up his relative strength that he will require to become powerful. Before you can be powerful you must first become strong. In order to dramatically increase your strength and power you must build up that endurance, then no measly piece of iron will stand in your way.

Is ‘Cardio’ the Best Way to Lose Fat? Costa Mesa Personal Trainers Don’t Think So…

October 6, 2008 by ptpt 8 Comments

Reliance on endurance activities (cardio) to burn calories and fat is like using a shot glass to fill up a pool.

It is possibly the least efficient way to lose body fat! Cardio focuses only on increasing the amount of fat that you are burning during the time that you are active.

So, if you do 60 minutes on the elliptical machine, you have increased your metabolism only for that 60 minute session.

If you are doing cardio seven days a week (1 hour per session), then you are spending only approximately 4% of your week burning extra fat.

Another problem with this approach is that once you pass the 45-60 minute mark in your cardio session, you have depleted your body’s glycogen stores, and your body will now begin to use protein to fuel your energy needs.
female torso and absUnfortunately, your body gets that protein from your muscle tissue, meaning that the extra time that you spend doing cardio is actually shrinking your fat burning furnace, muscle mass.
Keep this up for long enough and you will actually slow down your metabolism and burn less fat. This makes the other 96% of your week, when your burn the vast majority of your calories, much less effective.

The solution: Do resistance training circuits. Resistance training basically refers to higher intensity activities. For example, you could walk for 5-6 hours without too many problems, but you could not squat for 5-6 minutes. It takes far more energy to do one squat than to take one step. Squats, lunges, bends, twists, pushes and pulls against resistance would all classify as resistance activities.

Circuit training is when you sequence several activities one after another. It generally consists of up to 8 exercises in a row. For example, doing a lunge and twist, followed immediately by a squat, push ups, pull ups, and jumping rope would be a good circuit. The advantages of a circuit are that you get all the benefits of resistance training, along with all of the benefits of cardiovascular activity. You get the best of both worlds!

*6-15 hour metabolic boost after workouts.
*24-48 hours of increased calorie/fat-burning activity.
*24 hours per day 365 days per year your metabolism will be faster and burn more fat!
**Ladies: 5 lbs. of muscle will fit in the space of 2.5 lbs. pounds of fat.
So, if you gain muscle and lose fat, you will be significantly smaller and firmer.
We are not saying that cardio is bad for you.
Far from it.
Any exercise is better than none.
Guys six pack absWe are saying that circuit training is a much more efficient way to lose fat.
Cardio offers the smallest return on the time invested.
Circuit training takes the relatively small amount of time that you have to exercise, and makes you burn more fat during the rest of your day and week.
Would you rather invest 7 hours a week, get seven hours of benefit or would you want to invest that same 7 hours and get 138 hours of fat burning benefit?
