How to Frame Your Mindset Through Actionable Goals

October 9, 2020 by Jessica Leave a Comment

By: Coach Sareena Rama

Framing our mindset through actionable goals, building a positive support system, and remembering our why for movement – we will go into our day head and heart strong. When we prioritize our recovery in between movement sessions, we perform better. When we can perform better; we will move better, feel better, then ultimately, look better! Understanding how these three aspects come together is through intentional practices that can change your life!

Starting with our frame of mind, or mindset, we can…

  • Start and end the day with gratitude for our bodies. Sending gratitude to your body for carrying you through the day is a practice that can be done through journaling or mediation!
  • Write down your why for movement! Why do you want to feel better? What do you want to move better for? Why do you want to look better? (Remind yourself of your SMART goal!)
  • Jot down positive words that motivate, inspire, or resonate with you.

The Buddha says “Our life is the creation of our mind,” so create a positive life with a positive mind!

Once we have started off the day with a positive mindset, we can have a positive intention going into our movement sessions! We can move better when we…

  • Choose a movement that is enjoyable for you and have fun!
  • Start with the basics of movement. Performing an exercise without understanding the basic pattern of movement can be harmful to our success! Lean on those who are there to help you!
  • Understand that our bodies are adaptable and powerful!

Movement can be as simple as committing to showing up for ourselves in each workout!

The practices that follow an awesome workout is our form of recovery. Just like movement and mindset-recovery is an intentional form of rest. Our recovery can be…

  • Sleeping for a full 8 hours!
Fueling our body with good nutrient-dense foods pre- and post-workout!
  • Hydration!!!!!
  • Feeling supported by your community and coaches!

The idea of recovery is simply taking CARE of yourself each day by providing your body with adequate rest, water, and fuel for your day!

MINDSET is our frame of mind that charges our day with energy. In order to cultivate your mindset, you must RECOVER and be mindful of what the body needs each day. Both mindset and recovery will fuel our ability to MOVE with purpose in training sessions!!

A Special Message from Coach Aubrie

December 11, 2018 by Jessica 1 Comment

To my Innovative Results FAMILY,

THANK YOU.

Thank you for spending reps, sets, hours, moments, and memories with me throughout the last 4 years as we shared opportunities to expand our paradigms of movement, strength, purpose, goals, lifestyle, and friendship. Thank you for allowing me to guide you through an hour of your day to help you contribute to your success both in the gym and out. Thank you for listening with intention to reach towards your own greatest potential. Thank you for the laughs, the sweat, the challenges, the learning, and the pure human connection.

My transformation at Innovative Results has grown me to a space where I feel more comfortable sharing with others, speaking my voice, and forming the impact that I see myself making in this world. IR has been a catalyst that has launched me into the world of leadership, coaching, and truly feeling what its like to be the change that I want to see. I have learned, at very deep levels, what it means to connect with people and lead them to their own inner power with compassion, diligence, PLAY, and maybe a little pressure or tough love sometimes. (hehe :))

It is with sad news and almost trembling hands that I am announcing my leave from the playground. As committed to personal growth and transformation as I am, I have decided to move forward towards my next adventure in life.

Rest assured, the CORE SYSTEM of Innovative Results is what creates coaches like myself. I am a product of an amazing structure, progression, and educational development program that challenges coaches in multifaceted ways to strive further than ever before. The growth that IR coaches move through as they participate in their own leadership develops the foundation that I exude. You are in great hands still, my friend.

I appreciate your time, effort, encouragement, communication, connection, and love throughout these last 4 years. Keep being you because you are amazing and full of beautiful potential that this world needs.

Thank you!

How to Determine the Right Kettlebell

November 3, 2017 by Jessica 5 Comments

Article By Kettlebell Kings

Kettlebells are one of the most versatile exercise tools that a person can employ. They take minimal space but deliver maximum benefit to your workouts.

One of the hardest choices a new-comer to the kettlebell culture encounters is what style of kettlebell they should buy for themselves and start training with. There are quite a few different styles and shapes to kettlebells their weight aside.

The first thing to consider when choosing a kettlebell is what are your goals with procuring a kettlebell?

– Is it going to be a household exercise tool or be used outside?
– Is it for building strength or more conditioning focused?
– Will you eventually want to use single hand work or will you be mostly focused on using two handed grip techniques?

Let’s knock down these one at a time:

1. There are some Kettlebell styles that have a plastic coating to make them more conducive for inside use – For outdoor use there are powder coated kettlebells that make them more resilient to the ele-ments. I personally like the powder coated for inside and outside use.

2. To be clear ANY kettlebell training will have strength benefits, but if you are more conditioning focused then you will want a weight that you can move around with some general ease so you can focus on the exercise techniques. The different weights of kettles (other competition kettlebells which stay the same dimensions no matter the weight) will change is size as the weights change and this can effect your techniques. *A tip to consider – Regardless of style of training I do recommend using Sport style kettles due to their consistent size and shape. This will allow the movements you learn to stay the same as you progress in weight if you so choose.

3. Most kettlebell techniques can be done with two hands. This makes them more stable and easy to learn for novices. Using single hand techniques will rise the challenge and technique level considerably. If you do not seeing yourself wanting to try single hand work for some time then you will be using two hand movements so you will want to have a kettlebell with ample handle space. A solid unique design that has a consistent size and shape, like Sport style kettlebells, but also have a decent size handle shape like the powder coat kettlebells are the Kettlebell Kings Steel Standard Kettlebells.

Now that you have determined your goals with kettlebell it is time to determine the proper weight.

Quality kettlebells do cost money so you have to make sure when you make the investment that it is going to be the right weight for your goals. Of course as you increase your strength and technique you will eventually need to go up in weight. but this could take some time; so you can get a lot of mileage off of the right kettlebell.

Of course this is a difficult choice to determine since there are many variables involved. Injuries, experience, current fitness level, etc. In most kettlebell training styles 8 kilogram (about 17 lbs) and 12 kilogram (about 25 lbs) are the classic starting weights. Usually, especially for two hand movements, the 12 kilo size bells are a great novice challenge. If you have some kettlebell or weight resistance experience then the 16 kilogram (about 35 lbs) is a standard starting point.

A good guide to also help determine a proper weight is by possible rep ranges you will be pre-forming in your routine. Most coaches use a classic guideline of:
• 1-3 reps for explosive power
• 3-5 reps for strength
• 5-8 for sustained strength
• 8-12 for muscle hypertrophy
• 12+ reps for power endurance

If with the weight you choose you can do 12 or more reps with the 12kg kettlebell in one move, lets say the goblet squat, at once with relative ease it may be too light for you in that exercise and you may need the 16kg. You can use this example for all the exercises you may be planning on doing.

It is important to consider your current level of fitness, but also know you WILL get stronger and also consider. With proper training and consistency you may be surprised how much stronger with your kettlebell you will become.

Hopefully this easy checklist will help you determine what kind of kettlebell is the right one for you. It is always exciting to get a new kettlebell, it is like getting a new workout buddy who is ready to help you create the strongest version of yourself.

If you can, and you are a kettlebell novice, seek out some professional coaching to learn the basics for you to build on. Sometimes in person is tough, if so then look for a good coach who offers online coaching. If this is also out of reach then subscribe to the Kettlebell Kings blog, and YouTube content for kettlebell technique videos and articles and weekly kettlebell workouts to add to your fitness routine.

Kettlebell Kings is based in Austin, Texas and offers high quality kettlebells as well as tons of free content to read and learn about kettlebells on our blog. Benefits of Recovery, and How to Effectively Implement Meditation

October 23, 2017 by Jessica 7 Comments

Amanda Clover, Active Recovery, Innovative Results, Orange County Fitness Playground, Orange County yoga, yogaBy Coach Aubrie Pohl

Mindset. Movement. RECOVERY.

When is your next planned recovery day?

Your body needs to rebuild.
To enhance performance, utilize rest days, and PLAN recovery days.
Recovery is not quite the same as a rest day.

As we allow our body to rest, we accept the action of non-doing and recuperate our nervous system to feel awake.
Recovery is implementing actions and techniques to maximize your body’s repair. This includes proper nutrition, hydration, stretching, self-myofascial release, ice and heat, stress management, intentional breathing, and many other methods that travel deeper than just muscular repair.

Recovery involves repairing the mindset to accept more positivity, diligence, and healing.

It allows one to communicate to their body and re-invigorate torn and fatigued muscle tissue.

Recovery is intentional and integrated effort that should seep into our daily lives to enhance longevity and durability.

* Eat nutrient dense meals to give yourself the proper amount of protein, carbohydrates, fats, and micronutrients that will aid in fueling your body for greater performance and faster recovery. A mindful diet will keep your energy clean, reduce feelings of sluggishness, and clear brain fog. Stay away from processed foods and toxins as much as possible.
* Drink enough water for your urine to be close to clear! Water helps all our internal functions. You will experience more energy, softer skin, and contribute to the well being of your internal organs.
* Stretching and mobility movements will communicate to your nervous system to expand passive and active range of motion in your body.
* Self-myofascial release are techniques and methods of using tools to help heal tissue, release tension, and regenerate elasticity in your muscles.
* Ice and Heat help calm down superficial tissues that are inflamed and release muscular stiffness. Ice baths and whole body ice therapy have lately been proven to be extremely beneficial to overall tissue vitality.
* Stress management is important to regulate our sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight) response and attend to the parasympathetic (rest and digest) response during recovery days. Calm your mind, understand what thoughts are serving you no purpose, and develop more positive neuroplasticity training in your daily life.
* Breathing is both unconscious and conscious. Breathing practices have been used around the world as methods of regulating internal processes, strengthening the lungs, and promoting meditative states and concentration to calm the body.

Tune in to the recovery of your body, and to the recovery of your mind as well.

What image pops into your head when you hear the word meditation?

Is it an image of one individual sitting cross-legged on the ground, with their eyes closed?

Does that image deter you from scheduling the time for “meditation”?

What if, I told you there was a way for you to easily implement meditation into your daily life?
You see, meditation does not have any regulations other than one, to be entirely present in the moment at hand.

Meditation can be accomplished while standing, sitting, running, riding, dancing, and during any other physical stance.

Just breathe, and focus on your inhales and exhales.
Allow yourself to be saturated with the present moment and let the moments before hand and the predictions of the future journey into the ether where they belong.
Tune in, to the NOW.

For just a moment, allow all your stressors to be released, feelings of the past and future to leave, and only experience what is in front of you.

That is meditation, and without those restricted predicaments of when meditation is “supposed” to happen, you can now see the limitless possibilities of when to experience this deeper sensation of life.

It is when you choose to let your monkey mind be still, wherever you are.

The effects of meditation expand and spread through the rest of your life, especially in stages of recovery.

Experience the benefits of body and mind recovery immediately after you start implementing these practices into your daily life.

When did you start training at Innovative Results?

Generally I feel more energized in all aspects of my life, they say ‘fit body, fit mind’ and this has certainly been the case

What advice do you have for someone who is just getting started with Innovative Results?

Keep at it, I have been to other gyms but nowhere has achieved the results I have seen at IR

How has your life changed since you started training at Innovative Results?

I have more energy for all aspects of my life and am just generally happier, the only down side is none of my jeans fit anymore;-)

Who would you want to experience what you get to experience at Innovative Results?

kettlebell, kettlebells, and personal training at Innovative Results

We all get into a routine in our life, work, diet and exercise…those people who are in that rut would have a whole new outlook at Innovative Results. They really change you for the better!

Founder of Innovative Results, Aaron Guyett Opens Up About The Past, The Sale, and The Future

April 11, 2017 by IR Staff

Weight loss program in Orange County
One of my first clients at that apartment gym.

First off…excuse the journalistic style writing.

I want to be as open and transparent to the people I care about the most: my family, my IR team, my IR family (clients), and my community.

The Past

So many emotions.

Sadness. Excitement. Deep love. Loneliness. Anxiety. Pride. Triumph. Hope. Victory. Insanity.

I am mainly hopeful and proud, but all the other emotions surface here and there, from time to time.

Have you ever had to let something or someone go that you cared about deeply?

Innovative Results TeamI feel like I am leaving my 12 year-old-child, and the only solace, is that I am leaving her in the more than capable hands of Harrel Carman (if you haven’t already read it, go and read this article before you read any further: Still in Great Hands).

When I started Innovative Results in August of 2005, I had epic visions of success, an incredible facility, helping hundreds of people get strong, build strength in mind and body, lose weight, and feel better than they have their whole life; yet the reality is that I was only training a handful of people privately in an apartment studio gym.

There were so many naysayers, that I couldn’t have counted them if I tried.

I did not quit.

I stayed focused.

I worked my butt off.

Some weeks I would put in more than 120 hours per week to make my dreams and visions a reality.

Building Innovative Results from nothing to where it is today, was and is the hardest thing I have ever done, and that includes kettlebell sport, combat, Marine Corps training, several Commando Courses, marriage, and raising kids…now don’t get me wrong, each one of those things have been more intense at times, and demanded all of me in more than one occasion.

I am also quite certain marriage and raising kids will prove to be harder and more rewarding in the long run. I just haven’t been married or raised kids for 12 years in a row–yet.

Aaron Guyett KettlebellsDuring Innovative Results creation, growth, and development, I have experienced the highest highs and the lowest lows.

I have had relationships blossom and turn into family-like bonds that will never break.

I have also had relationships that I thought would never break, become broken, bringing tumultuous times and deep sadness.

I have had the opportunity to help thousands of people improve their quality of life, in every area of their life.

To me this is the greatest honor a person can bestow on another person–the opportunity to speak and act in their life to help them improve their physical, mental, and even spiritual being.

This honor and opportunity is what I hold most dear to my heart, and it is why I started Innovative Results in the first place.

It has been so awesome to see Innovative Results team, clients, friends, family, and community uphold this as our highest purpose and greatest passion.

I have become a part of something greater than me, and frankly, that is not what I bargained for in my visions of grandeur in the beginning.

In the beginning helping people was more about ego, fame, recognition, and authority…now it is more about, how I can lead, motivate, guide, coach, and pave the way for a legacy of improved quality of life, in every area of people’s lives, and in more people’s lives around Orange County.

That is why I have struggled over the last three and a half years with what would become of Innovative Results, when my wife and I decided we needed to move up to NorCal (specifically Auburn, Forest Hill, Cool area) to be closer to our family as they age and need our help by June of 2018. (My wife knows I need a target, otherwise it will never happen)

I did not want to let go of Innovative Results, especially after fighting so hard to bring it to where it is today.

There were moments where I wanted to quit.

There were moments where I handed off Innovative Results to others.

There were moments where Innovative Results almost went under.

In the end, I held on, and pushed, pulled, worked, fought, and kept moving forward.

The Sale

personal training, motivation, quality of life, improved quality of life, Innovative Results, Orange County Personal TrianersThe gym (ahem) Fitness Playground, is finally where it should be: no more debt, massive playground, affiliated with top educators, the best coaches in Orange County, very effective programming, and an all-around fun place to be with your friends and family…why would I give that up?

Trust me, if it were up to my ego and pride, I would keep Innovative Results, move up North, and have a competent manager send me a monthly profit check…but is that really the best situation for the team, clients, and community?

I negotiated with a few other people, and I figured this would be the route I would have to take, because nobody cared about Innovative Results purpose (improving quality of life), team, and clients…they ONLY cared about the profit.

And yes, there is profit, but if Innovative Results lost its purpose, I would much rather shut the doors, and point people to someone who cared.

In December of 2016, that person came walking through the upstairs office door, and had every quality I would have imagined to ensure Innovative Results legacy and purpose would live on…that person was Harrel Carman. He is a friend of mine for over ten years, and a client of Innovative Results since late 2009, early 2010.

He has seen the ups and downs. He knows the purpose, team, clients, and community. He wanted to continue to build, grow, develop, and nurture Innovative Results, so that it could help more people improve their quality of life in every area of their life.

I joke about this all the time, but I really feel like I found a Unicorn, or rather a Unicorn came and fed out of my hand.

After negotiating for 4 months, we came to the greatest win-win-win-win I have ever heard of in my life.

Part of these wins, will entail me helping Harrel, the team, the clients, and the community transition to our new ownership.

The Future

Casa Capri_Canyon RV_04_23_16 (1 of 1)-5I will be sticking around for the next 14 months, and I would love to have a conversation with you about anything that is on your heart and mind during this time.

After the 14 months, my wife and I will move to Northern California to a house in the hills 20 minutes from town, and 40 minutes from our family.

I will work remotely with Onnit Academy and Equinox as an educator of coaches and trainers looking to level-up their understanding with regard to Battle Ropes, Metabolic Pathways, Leadership, and Coaching. I will fly around the country and the World teaching what I love, and continuing to share my passion and purpose.

I will also be scheduling a few speaking engagements and consulting jobs where I help companies and universities build leaders of leaders.

I will serve the rest of my eight years with the Marine Corps reserve in whatever capacity they have for me, currently it is as a Operations Chief with a Combat Instructor unit down in School of Infantry-West, Camp Pendleton.

Mainly, I will take a venture even more deeply into intentional leadership as a follower of Christ, a serving husband, and a loving father.

Innovative Results is going to have a HUGE re-opening party May 13th, and you are all invited! Harrel and I would love to share more with you this day, and also have a blast of a time! Click the link or the picture to the left.

I will also be having a going away party in 2018 that you will be invited to.

Thank you so much for letting me share some of my story with you, and feel free to call, text, email me anytime with any questions.

Look forward to a video series that Harrel and I are doing to talk more about the inner-workings of Innovative Results and Harrel’s take on all of it.
