Still in Great Hands: Innovative Results Keeps Moving Forward with New Owner

April 10, 2017 by Jessica 7 Comments

IMG_1794

When was the last time you heard laughter and squeals of delight at the gym? And not from the mouths of babes at the daycare section? At Costa Mesa’s Innovative Results The Fitness Playground, fun is always to be expected from a workout session. Having a sense of play is built in to training sessions. Whether it’s simulating knife fights with DIY foam weapons, dribbling soccer balls inside a magic square, or bouldering on the newly erected rock climbing wall, no workout is ever a bore.

What makes these exciting exercises even more enjoyable is the people who are doing them with you. With a close-knit, team-like atmosphere during group training sessions, clients are improving their health and enjoying it in the process. The Innovative Results’ coaching team consistently improves upon their health and fitness philosophy of Mindset, Movement, and Recovery through various educational workshops to deliver the most current, functional, and safe techniques in fitness and wellness, and the best and most useful information in nutrition. Innovative Results intends to continue its growing legacy with a new owner who himself has been a long-time client: Harrel Carman. Under his leadership, Carman wants more of everything that makes Innovative Results the beloved household name in Orange County fitness.

Harrel Carman: Dedicated to More

Innovative Results’ new owner, Harrel Carman, is much like Los Angeles’ Angels of Anaheim Coach, Mike Scioscia. Scioscia had a successful career as a catcher for the Dodgers. He parlayed his experience and expertise into coaching the Angels. Much like Scioscia, Carman’s path towards being Innovative Results’ new owner has been paved with dedication to sports and athleticism, and building and improving relationships.

Carman has long been passionate about physical fitness. He has competed in Baseball, Football, Basketball, Tennis, and Track & Field. He still plays Basketball most Saturday mornings and has been playing in Flag Football tournaments with the same team for over 15 years. Carman also regularly competes in Kettlebell Sport events and has won many medals lifting the 32kg kettlebell in the Men’s 85kg bodyweight division. Such an admirable commitment to physical health is actually grounded in a promise to others. Carman says, “Since I was young, maybe around 5 or 6 years old, I decided to begin working for my ‘future family.’ My dedication to my own health and fitness is my dedication to the family I have now, as well as when my family begins to grow (no kids yet, but eventually). I want to enjoy my kids, be able to play with them. Be able to roll around on the ground and play with my grandkids even. I want to be an example, through my own dedications, to my family, friends, and community.”

His active lifestyle is further complemented by a background in personal training, one that Carman has continued to expand over the last ten years. He has completed certifications in NASM, Functional Range Conditioning, Onnit Battle Ropes and Steel Clubs, Orange Kettlebell Club, SCUBA, and CPR. Carman’s favorite aspect of personal training was “how I got to interact with other people. Helping them learn more about themselves and the strength they have inside them.”

Innovative Results Owner Harrel Carman & wife, Julianne.

This knack for building people up has been a key component in Carman’s success in business. He has managed and run several businesses ranging from a financial company, to construction, to the Kumon tutoring center that he owns with his wife, Julianne. “I’ve found team-building to be the most important aspect of having a successful business,” asserts Carman. “Describing the ‘perfect’ team isn’t possible for me, since every business’ needs are different. However, the team currently at Innovative Results was a big factor in my decision to purchase the business. Without this incredible team, I don’t think I’d have been interested. I’m so excited to become a part of this awesome team and to bring even more energy and enthusiasm to continue Innovative Results’ vision moving forward.”

Continuing to Transform: A Better Quality of Life for Everyone

In the ten years that Harrel Carman has been a client of Innovative Results, he has seen the positive influence that Orange County’s Fitness Playground has had on its members and the surrounding community. He says, “I love the passion that’s brought every day and the dedication that Innovative Results coaches show to our clients!”. Innovative Results’ mission is: “Improve quality of life through diligent change and growth, dedication to the basics, and service to our community.” Former owner Aaron Guyett built a solid coaching team that is enthusiastic and genuine about making an impact on each and every person that walks through Innovative Results’ doors. Numerous client reviews on social media attest to incredible transformations in physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Each Innovative Results trainer truly embodies the coveted title emblazoned on the back of their black and gray shirts: coach. Aubrie Pohl and Dane Fernandez are two coaches who are there for clients at any point in their journey towards wellness, whether it be providing a modification or giving encouragement during a workout, or answering nutrition questions outside of the gym.

Carman is eager for what lies ahead. “My current vision for Innovative Results is to keep it moving in the same direction it has been over the years. I don’t have any visions of making drastic changes.” Carman elaborates: “It’s why I’m so excited for this opportunity. The current culture is so freaking fun, why change it? The only thing I really want to do, is take everything that Innovative Results is and make it more. More opportunities for our coaches to learn/grow, more tools for our clients to reach their goals, more more more! I hope through our commitment to bettering the lives of our clients, we can reach more and more of those in our community to do the same.”

I Am Constantly Seeing Little Improvements at This Costa Mesa Gym – The Orange County Fitness Playground

July 2, 2016 by IR Staff Leave a Comment

personal trainers orange county, caAngie’s constant and little improvements are building incredible lifelong and lifestyle improvements year over year.

We are honored and joy-filled that we get to partner with her in her fitness and life journey of constant little improvements at our Costa Mesa Gym!

Check out her story below.

When did you start training at Innovative Results?

Why did you start training with Innovative Results?

I first started with Keri after meeting her in our women’s bible study group in Costa Mesa.

She and I clicked.

I have always worked out but my workout partner moved and my morning habit was slagging.

I thought maybe a trainer would help pull me out of my slump.

What have you improved since you started training with Innovative Results?

orange county gym, orange county personal trainerI’m constantly seeing little improvements and being prompted for the bigger ones that need to happen.

Since I have started, I’m definitely stronger all over.

I can do a handstand against a wall.

I have improved my thought process and learning.

This is a hard one to answer actually.

I would say overall balance of daily living.

Hearing your voice “next one best one” and “you can do anything for 15 sec.”

I can push through whatever barrier I’m dealing with throughout my day.

What kept you coming back to Innovative Results?

orange county personal trainers, personal training in orange county, personal training in californiaAt first it became an extension of my women’s group where Keri and I got time to talk one on one and build a relationship.

The workouts we were doing at this Costa Mesa Gym were fun and varied daily.

I learned a lot as far as there are more things to do in a treadmill than run.

When you were switching buildings and we worked out in the park….what a blast.

It was/is fun!

Now it has become even more of a family setting.

The people that have crossed my path through Innovative Results and the new friendships and relationships have been built in that one hour–what a great way to start your day!

I just need to add more days…

How has Innovative Results improved the other areas of your life (i.e. work, relationships, finances, education)?

orange county personal trainer, personal training, fitness gym, fitness training, orange county fitness, costa mesa gymAs you know, I work at a high school and knowing the talents that Aaron has and being able to share that with students and staff has been amazing.

Lately it has been so awesome to watch the students struggle and laugh as they workout with Aaron and me knowing that “I can do that.”

I actually want to just jump in and workout with them.

Hearing the teachers walk by and be so full of joy as they talk about their afternoon workouts.

But mostly it has been watching the growth of two people and them finding their passions and talents.

Education as far as learning about rolling out, different stretches for different ailments, and obtaining cardio without necessarily running.

What advice do you have for someone who is just getting started with Innovative Results?

battle ropes, workouts for women, women at Innovative Results, Innovative Results women, orange county fitness gym, fitness gym, orange county gymTake your time, you will get stronger, and you truly need at least three days per week at this Costa Mesa Gym if you want to see significant change.

How has your life changed since you started training at Innovative Results?

The thought of going to the “regular” gym has become painful to think about–glad to have The Orange County Fitness Playground.

I have hit an age and time of life where I have to work out at least five to six days a week if I am going to see any change at all, but everything else (traditional gyms, etc.) is pretty boring in comparison.

Who would you want to experience what you get to experience at Innovative Results?

women training at Innovative Results, women personal trainingEveryone!

I will get my husband to return, and I want to get my son to try it out.

I’m still working on that.

But seriously, I feel that every athletic team at Newport Harbor High School should be using Innovative Results as part of their workout regime.

I honestly and completely feel there would be less injuries and more strength.

Charity Fundraiser Fitness Training at Innovative Results, Saturdays 10am

May 16, 2013 by ptpt Leave a Comment

Innovative Results interviewed the leaders of the organizations that we help every Saturday. The Charity Fundraiser is Fitness Training Session on Saturdays 10am, where 100% of your $10 donation is given to the local community. Check out one of the stories here.

Jeff Costa FB TestimonialInnovative Results asked Jeff Costa, a long time client and member of Local GO ministries at The Crossing Church in Costa Mesa, what he does to help the community, and this is what he said:

“My name is Jeff Costa, and I lead The Crossing’s Street Team ministry.

Street Team is a group of people that meet to help the people on the street that are invisible and needy. While we go out to serve and help the city’s people, we pray for the streets, businesses, and civil services.

The biggest success story is the fact I am on a team that has helped 19 people get off the streets!!

The reason why I do this is because now I know these are people just like you and me. They just might be going through a really tough time, and need some love and a chance.

I believe that God puts certain people in your life.

For some reason He chose me for this, and I’m all in!”

Innovative Results is proud to be a part of helping Jeff Costa get people off the street through our donations and awareness created through our Saturday charity training session every Saturday at 10am.civic center

Bring a suggested $10 donation, experience the best personal training in Orange County, and help GO Ministries improve the quality of life of the homeless…even getting people off of the street!

Come to Innovative Results Charity Fundraiser on Saturdays at 10 am to experience The Orange County Fitness Playground, as we help our local community in Costa Mesa.

Innovative Results Charity Fitness Training Sessions are Making a HUGE Impact Around the World!

October 18, 2012 by ptpt Leave a Comment

The Innovative Results Charity Fitness Training Sessions happen every Saturday at 10am, for a donation of $10.

You can train with our incredible fitness coaches at The Orange County Fitness Playground.

Every dollar is donated to charity.

Look what your donations are accomplishing:

Orange County Bootcamp Donates to CharityMAY- JUNE 2012 – Uganda – Africa – The $2,100 raised went to support Compassion International’s Child Survival Program in a village called Kisheny, directly improving the infant mortality rate, educating and training parents in not only health and wellness for them and their children but in agriculture and micro-enterprise opportunities.

Costa Mesa Boot Camp - CompassionJULY- AUG 2012 – El Salvador – Central America – The $1,800 raised was used to put on a “Community Celebration” at the Compassion International Child Development Center in Las Dalicias.  This Center has been open for 1 year is releasing children from poverty by providing education, health, social, and spiritual input.  This celebration was important for the community so they can rally around the impact of the Center.

SEPT. – OCT 2012 – Bihar – India – The $900 raised so far will go towards providing a much needed classroom at the Compassion International Child Development Center in Katihar.  This Center is located in a very remote area and served over 300 children in a community where the literacy rate is below 50%, Malria and dysentery kills thousands every year.   You can imagine the impact it has on a whole family and village when a child can get the health, social, spiritual and educational support they need.  It literally impacts the entire family.

I wanted to take a few moments to thank all of the staff at Innovative Results for the way that they have given back to GO Team India and The Crossing Church in Costa Mesa, California. This January GO Team India is traveling to Katihar, India to deliver a shipping container that The Crossing Church converted into a classroom for our church partner at the Child Development Center. This new classroom will provide a new place for the children of the local villages to learn how to read and write English. In addition to building the container GO Team India filled it with 75 wheelchairs, 350 backpacks with schools supplies, and generators to supply electricity to the school.

-Ian Stevenson (Pastor of The Crossing Go Ministry)

Is ‘Cardio’ the Best Way to Lose Fat? Costa Mesa Personal Trainers Don’t Think So…

October 6, 2008 by ptpt 8 Comments

Reliance on endurance activities (cardio) to burn calories and fat is like using a shot glass to fill up a pool.

It is possibly the least efficient way to lose body fat! Cardio focuses only on increasing the amount of fat that you are burning during the time that you are active.

So, if you do 60 minutes on the elliptical machine, you have increased your metabolism only for that 60 minute session.

If you are doing cardio seven days a week (1 hour per session), then you are spending only approximately 4% of your week burning extra fat.

Another problem with this approach is that once you pass the 45-60 minute mark in your cardio session, you have depleted your body’s glycogen stores, and your body will now begin to use protein to fuel your energy needs.
female torso and absUnfortunately, your body gets that protein from your muscle tissue, meaning that the extra time that you spend doing cardio is actually shrinking your fat burning furnace, muscle mass.
Keep this up for long enough and you will actually slow down your metabolism and burn less fat. This makes the other 96% of your week, when your burn the vast majority of your calories, much less effective.

Rob Trained with Innovative Results.
Rob Trained with Innovative Results.

The solution: Do resistance training circuits. Resistance training basically refers to higher intensity activities. For example, you could walk for 5-6 hours without too many problems, but you could not squat for 5-6 minutes. It takes far more energy to do one squat than to take one step. Squats, lunges, bends, twists, pushes and pulls against resistance would all classify as resistance activities.

Circuit training is when you sequence several activities one after another. It generally consists of up to 8 exercises in a row. For example, doing a lunge and twist, followed immediately by a squat, push ups, pull ups, and jumping rope would be a good circuit. The advantages of a circuit are that you get all the benefits of resistance training, along with all of the benefits of cardiovascular activity. You get the best of both worlds!
female six pack abs Resistance training benefits
*6-15 hour metabolic boost after workouts.
*24-48 hours of increased calorie/fat-burning activity.
*24 hours per day 365 days per year your metabolism will be faster and burn more fat!
**Ladies: 5 lbs. of muscle will fit in the space of 2.5 lbs. pounds of fat.
So, if you gain muscle and lose fat, you will be significantly smaller and firmer.
We are not saying that cardio is bad for you.
Far from it.
Any exercise is better than none.
Guys six pack absWe are saying that circuit training is a much more efficient way to lose fat.
Cardio offers the smallest return on the time invested.
Circuit training takes the relatively small amount of time that you have to exercise, and makes you burn more fat during the rest of your day and week.
Would you rather invest 7 hours a week, get seven hours of benefit or would you want to invest that same 7 hours and get 138 hours of fat burning benefit?
