At 65, Ken is a ‘Poster Child’ for Living an Active Lifestyle

September 13, 2017 by Jessica 2 Comments

Haaave yea met Ken?!

Folks if you have not heard of Ken St Cyr, fire up your Google Search!

At 65 years young, Ken is a champion pole vaulter, surf enthusiast, and a “poster-child” of how an active lifestyle improves the quality of one’s life.

Check out Ken at San Onofre State Beach!

But don’t just listen to us gush over Ken! Continue reading below to hear about the positive effects of his Innovative Results Training Program.

How did you hear about Innovative Results?
I was referred to Innovative Results by my Sports Med doctor who told me he had heard very good things about the work being done there. I needed a workout regime that supported my pole vault agility and strength development and he thought you guys could do that.

What about Innovative Results interested you in coming in?

KenStCyr_vaultWhen I first visited and talked with the staff I was impressed with the knowledge and understanding of my needs.

Why did you decide to step into the gym?
Same as the above comment.

What was your first reaction once you entered the gym?
The workouts with Dane were dynamic and not simply machine strength training. I was moving and exercising muscles that clearly supported my desire to improve my pole vaulting strength and mobility. It was clear the staff, Dane specifically, had done their research on pole vaulting and knew how to get the best out of me.

What was one thing you like about Innovative Results that kept you coming back for more?
The complete focus on me and my needs. Dane spends every second watching, coaching, correcting and encouraging. Together we put together a long term game plan designed to peak at just the right time.

How has your vision of movement changed since you’ve started working out at Innovative Results?
Absolutely. I am more flexible, more toned and more competent as a 65 year old pole vaulter. That would not be possible without the effort put forth by Innovative Results and Dane.

How has Innovative Results helped your mindset in daily living? (at home, school, work, or in the community)
I generally feel in great shape, healthy and positive in my outlook. I attribute much of that to the results being achieved at IR.

What was the biggest obstacle (mental/structural/physical) you’ve crossed since starting at Innovative Results?

KenStCyrI suffered a ruptured appendix soon after joining IR. Three months later, after surgery and full recovery when I was able to begin working out again I was on a tight timeline to get prepared for several major competitions. Dane and IR were able to get me back in shape quickly by constantly working me as hard as possible without crossing the boundary to be injury prone.

How were you able to surpass your obstacle?
Due to the commitment of Dane and IR we had a training program that maximized my ability to regain strength and flexibility. I was fortune enough to win a Bronze Medal at the US National Senior Games in June and then subsequently win the USA Masters Games.. I also won a Silver Medal at the North and Central America Masters Championships in Toronto in August 2017. It was a team effort with IR all the way!

Innovative Results would love to add a fitness routine to help boost your active lifestyle?

Fill out the form below, and a member of our Innovative Results Team will contact you to discuss your goals!

MOVEMENT IS MEDICINE

August 29, 2017 by Jessica 3 Comments

By: Coach Dane Fernandez Dane Fernandez at Innovative Results

WHAT IS MOVEMENT

We have been living in a civilized society for thousands of years, and only up until recently have we seen a decline in of our populations physical abilities. There are few who have excelled at getting their body to its maximum ability and potential, but for the vast majority of the civilized world we have let our immediate environment take over causing physical evolutionary change.

It’s funny to think we live in a society that needs to count their steps in order to meet the suggested physical recommendations for daily exercise. Surrounding environments play a big factor in dictating a routine or habit. When living in a modern environment we feel the need to create things like the “10,000 step a day rule”. We also create modified movement facilities like weight gyms.

Jennifer Lifting with Kettlebell

As a culture we have learned that in order for us to live in the modern world we need to take part in physical activity to up keep one’s health. Gyms and sports are a means to fun physical activity in hopes of improving oneself in dimensions of speed, agility, quickness, power, and strength.

GOOD MOVEMENT vs. BAD MOVEMENT
Are we creating healthy individuals or are we taking people farther from true healthy movement? With generalized and sport specific training we are developing the bodies abilities, but are we doing it correctly and safely? Doing a gym workout is believed to replace the physical activity that we’d normally take part in if we were still living in pre-modern times. Being in a gym setting is probably not the most ideal way to express excess energy but it works with our modern society and culture.

Sport specific and generalized training are great for personal development, they provide essential skills for mind and body awareness. It takes phenomenal strength and control to perform these types of activities. We can all agree that any type of body training is going to be beneficial compared to remaining stagnant. Education, discipline, and time are a few factors when looking at developing a healthy human body.

HEALTHY MOVEMENT vs. UNHEALTHY MOVEMENT Master Coach Aaron with his daughter Hannah
When training is done correctly it can be extremely beneficial as one takes part in their daily lifestyle. The more your mind and body are trained the better they will respond when called upon. It is important to train ‘’the right way” on a daily basis.
Movement in our daily life comprises of multiple movement patterns. When we get stuck in a repetitive day-to-day routine it’s hard for most of us to practice healthy movements. Our movements become repetitive and unhealthy becoming harmful to one’s health.

Healthy movements can be tough to identify with all the misconceptions out in today’s health industry. Stick to the basics and master them, this is key. Once you’ve owned the basics only then can you start doing all the fun and cool movements and workouts.

Healthy movement starts with where the movement takes place. Moving in all three planes of motion will allow your body to be optimally trained. Movement in the Sagittal (Forward-Back/Up-Down), Frontal (Left-Right), and Transverse (Rotation)planes of motion will put a halt to the day to day routine.
Moving correctly takes time and dedication to the basics. Learning to control you body through it’s proper movement patterns becomes essential for optimal human health.

Control has to be one of the most underlooked components to a healthy body. Proper stabilization and mobilization of your body needs to be addressed before performing SAQ, Power, Strength, and Endurance activities or workouts. Capabilities and abilities improve when mobilization and stabilization are performed on a daily basis.

With mobility and stability improving you will be setting yourself up for successful training protocol and workouts. Addressing strength, power, speed, agility, quickness, endurance, and aerobic capacity will be much easier. Focusing on how to train the correct energy pathway for the given workout will be the main concern instead of correcting bad form and posture.

SMART ACTIVE RECOVERY active stretching
Performing movements and workouts will place stresses on your body’s bones, joints, and soft tissues. We’d all like to go day-to-day without any aches and pains and by starting a recovery protocol you will help ensure a healthy body. Succeeding in your workouts are very important for one’s health, but paying attention to how you treat your body after a workout has huge implementations as will.

By doing multiple active recovery techniques your body will start to notice faster adaptations to the stresses placed on it. Placing an emphasis on how your body heals and regenerates itself post exercise is an important part of a great training protocol. Emphasis can be placed on two types of recovery; active and passive recovery.

Usually many different theories arise as to how to do recovery and what methods to use. When dealing with post exercise protocol, one of the first things that should be implemented is an active decompression. This can be considered to be a short jog or locomotion technique to help circulate blood flow in the body, thus improving overall recovery. Other types of active recovery are self myofascial releases along with tissue and joint decompression stretches.

Passive recovery is something that you do without exerting any effort like a hot/cold contrast bath, epsom salt bath, and massage or physical palpation. Passive recovery is commonly mistaken as “my recovery day” which consist of lying on the couch all day doing nothing at all (this is not what we want to do). Using proper passive recovery techniques can provide insights to body awareness and healing. By adding multiple recovery disciplines into your daily workout progression you are supercharging your bodies recovery cycle thus making you a healthier individual.

Add up all the smart movement strategies and start to implement them into your daily regime. If you are still unsure about how to apply there techniques into a fitness program please don’t hesitate to visit a local “smart gym”. Make sure that they go through proper programming and recovery in their day to day progressions.

It’s time to get out there and make your own medicine out of movement.

Innovative Results at a Glance – A Look Inside The Most Popular Gym in Orange County, California – The Orange County Fitness Playground

April 17, 2014 by ptpt Leave a Comment

A lot of people have been asking about the gym, our program and wondering what all of the BUZZ is about So, we thought we’d put together a visual snapshot of what we do…a sneak peek into Innovative Results

1.  We moved into a NEW location…here’s what the place looks like:

Orange County Gym - IR is #1 playground

While most gyms are still centered around treadmills and weight machines, we took a different approach.

Gym in orange county

Our fitness programs help people move better, feel better and live an active lifestyle.

We teach people to crawl, climb, run, lift and move in all directions, using a variety of equipment, exercises and challenges.

Fitness gym in Orange CountyOur goal is to create great workouts, while having fun at the same time.

No reason to be serious all the time, right?

2014-03-31 09.05.28-1

Our members aren’t here to become bodybuilders or to win fitness competitions.

People stay with IR because they are able to live life with energy.  They are strong, pain free and develop more confidence to take on the world.

Others use IR as a break from reality…an escape from the daily stress.

Bottom line:  we help people move and have a great time doing it.

Here’s what some of our members have to say…

I just started working with Corey and his staff at Innovative Results about a month ago and I can tell you it has been outstanding. They push you without being demanding, have a great variety of workouts, and are as positive and supportive as it gets. From my first day there I felt myself improving. The entire team there is great.

– David, Huntington Beach

Innovative Results has hosted several employee Lunch and Learn Workshops on topics related to fitness, breathing, stretching, and overall health. Workplaces are the new trend for wellness discussions! I am still receiving rave reviews from participants for these workshops. Employees left with practical tips and fresh inspiration. We are grateful for their creative and efficient strategies that truly are innovative and fun!

– Sarah, Costa Mesa

I’ve been to Crossfit gyms, bootcamps, cardio classes at gyms, and other strength and conditioning gyms and haven’t found any I really enjoy. They aren’t challenging enough, I wind up injured, or there are too many egos that turn me off. I just started at Innovative Results and absolutely love it! Everyone is knowledgeable, positive, caring and push you to work hard.  It’s  a great place if you want to get into shape, or if you’re already fit and wanting to take your workouts to the next level. I enjoy how they have numerous challenges throughout the month where you try to improve your own times, weight or reps!

With These Gym Classes, Roger Ditched the Crowds and Pulled a 180 on his Negative Self-Perception

July 6, 2012 by ptpt 36 Comments

The Innovative Results Family has been blessed with amazing surroundings, great gym classes, and spectacular clients!

Roger Swibold is reaching his 6 month anniversary with Innovative Results and for that IR wants to praise Roger on all his successes and dedication!

Here is Rogers’ journey!

“I just feel compelled to let you know how much I appreciate what you and the IR team are doing for me (even though I moan every step of the way).”

You already know that for the past 8 years I have had no exercise program and 90% of my meals have been eaten out – and those meals basically consisted of crap.  However, what you don’t necessarily know is the emotional baggage that I bring with me (baggage that I’m working on).  Actually, I may have shared some of this with you and you may have guessed some of it, but regardless, here it goes …

Even though I was a thin kid, in junior high and high school I avoided gym class like the plague because I was horrible at sports.  Sooooo … I gained weight (I know, big surprise).  We were required to take a certain number of gym classes, so I took the easy classes like “lifetime sports” (golf, archery, tennis, etc.) and indoor recreation (racquet ball, badminton, bowling, etc.).  Because I had no athletic ability, you would NEVER see me on a basketball court or football field, and rarely on a baseball field or volleyball court.  (However, I did find out I was pretty good at racquet ball and “killer” badminton, so THAT was a plus.)

Athletic people have no idea what the lack of athletic ability can do to one’s self image.  Basically, I developed this sort of “2nd class citizen” mentality about myself at a very young age.  It wasn’t prompted by my family or friends,  it was all my own doing, and it translated into a poor self image … EVEN THOUGH I was quite confident in many aspects of my life.  For example: school was easy for me; I was a fairly decent artist; I had great friends; and I was known for my singing ability.  Looking back, I was very blessed, but for some reason I let my lack of athletic ability cloud my self perception.

So … fast forward to adulthood.  I have a decent job, I still have amazing friends in my life, I sing in a renowned master chorale, I sing and play piano for the worship team at church, I’m even somewhat fun to be around, I have great taste (in style and décor), and I smell nice (I just had to throw in a few extras, for fun), and God has blessed me in many ways.  I’m actually confident in most areas of my life.  But my lack of athletic ability, my weight, and that nagging self-image insecurity has persisted.  It has kept me from doing things like:

1.  Working with youth or college aged kids at church; and

2.  Getting involved in something like a Big Brothers program.

Why?  Because most of those groups thrive on physical activities.  They organize a football game, shoot hoops, or hang at the beach.  (Lord knows, I won’t let myself be seen shirtless.)  I have never wanted to be the dud sitting on the sidelines (kids don’t gravitate toward duds), so I’ve just avoided getting involved in such groups.  I know it’s a stupid way of thinking, and I know there may be some kid out there who could relate to my issues, but those issues are why I haven’t gotten involved.  In addition, I’ve also missed out on typical male camaraderie that comes from participating in team sports or golf.  As a result, I don’t have many buddies to hang with.

But enough of the Sad Story.  Here’s the transformation …

You, sir (referencing IR Owner Aaron Guyett), are a God-send for me.  I truly mean that!!  Even though there are some amazing things about my life, from a physical and health perspective I’ve been heading down a path of apathetic destruction for quite some time.  I know it was up to me to make a decision to change, so yes, kudos to me for doing that.  But the IR gym “style”, your philosophy on healthy living, you personality, your genuine interest and concern, and the fact that you’re cool enough to work with middle-aged farts in horrible shape, made it easy for me to make the lifestyle change that I desperately needed.  I’ve always hated the traditional gym (for various reasons), but I totally dig the IR concept.  I love the fact that there are these amazing athletes there struggling just as hard as I am.  (Granted, they are working with heavier weights and are doing workouts that are much more taxing than mine … but they are struggling, nonetheless.)  I think it’s cool that the trainers and members take the time to encourage one another.  Most people really seem stoked to see the improvement of others, and they’re not afraid verbalize it.  I love the fact that it’s not crowded and you don’t have to wait for equipment.  And even though I feel like a weakling at times, those thoughts are fleeting, because I’m now a RECOVERING weakling … IMPROVING each and every week!!

I realize that working out does not (and will not) make me magically adept at sports … I’ll still suck at football, basketball, etc. … BUT it has helped to build self-confidence regarding physical activity (in general), it has improved (and is still improving) the way I look and feel, it has given me a community of folks that I hope to build into friendships, and it is helping me to obliterate some of my own stupid, ingrained, insecurities.

So for THAT, my friend, I thank you – from all that is within me.  I hope you receive as much encouragement as you give.  I’m sure you can get bogged down with the details of “the business” (like you mentioned tonight), with life, and with your own issues.  But through all of that, I hope you KNOW in your heart of hearts that you and the IR Team make a huge difference in the lives of so many.  What you do is important … it is life changing!!  That fact that you’re a spiritual man and a growing Christian, is just this amazing icing on the cake.  (oooh, “cake” … bad word)  I know that your energy, your compassion for others, and your God-given talents will translate well into the ministry work that you’re contemplating.  But I ask one thing … don’t make that transition into your other ministry until I’m all better.

Thank You Roger for allowing the IR Family to be a part of YOUR success!

Press Release for the #1 Personal Trainers in Orange County

November 9, 2008 by ptpt Leave a Comment

Innovative Results, Inc. Voted Best Personal Trainers in Orange County

Innovative Results, Inc. takes the number one spot on myfoxla 2008 Best of the OC HOT LIST as the Best Personal Trainers in Orange County.

Issued By: Innovative Results, Inc.

Jun 25, 2008 17:24:52

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) – Jun 25, 2008 – Innovative Results, Inc. takes the number one spot on myfoxla 2008 Best of the OC HOT LIST as the Best Personal Trainers in Orange County.

The myfoxla HOT LIST (www.myfoxla.com), a product of Fox LA News, is Southern California’s premier image-based guide to thousands of local businesses. The HOT LIST delivers the local perspective: hidden gems, neighborhood favorites, and honest advice from those who know their city best.

Aaron Guyett, President and CEO of Innovative Results, Inc., said of the victory:”We are extremely pleased and honored to be named best personal trainers, but not surprised.  The success of any personal trainer can only be measured by his or her clients.  It’s a goal-oriented business and as a former U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant I understand the hard work that goes into reaching your goals. I am here to support my clients and offer not just a gym program but a life plan that will lead to fulfillment.  The company’s motto is ‘love, happiness and abundance.’ As trainers, we focus on giving support and motivation to every client so they can achieve their goals.”

Guyett notes the following factors why Innovative Results, Inc. is also the fastest growing personal training business in the county:

1. We offer innovative personal training and nutritional coaching that’s fine-tuned for every customer, allowing for maximum results in minimum time.  Each client’s program is designed with their individual goals in mind.  Everybody is different and nobody’s time or efforts are ever wasted;

2. We don’t train like the traditional bodybuilders, we train movements and therefore create efficient humans with sexy bodies; and

3. We also give our clients innovative nutritional guidelines.  It’s not a strict adherence to specific foods; instead we work with each individual’s food journal to create modification for success.

He adds: “While it’s great to have this recognition because it means that our clients are happy, I won’t rest here.  My goal is to grow the company and continue to increase revenue while creating a great work environment for both my trainers and my clients.  My business model is very different from the traditional gym-membership model that cuts the customer loose after the initial sale.  They count on the failure of their customers, so the gym won’t get overcrowded, and they can sell more memberships. I want everyone to succeed because their success is a direct reflection on me.”

Innovative Results, Inc. has plans to open three private training facilities in Orange County and eventually expand nationally.
