Focus on Improving 1%, and You Will Have All the Success You Desire

June 16, 2015 by Jessica 2 Comments

IR photos-020By: Aaron Guyett

If you are reading this, you are success-minded.

You are interested, intrigued, and focused on your own success and probably the success of those around you.

That is reason enough to stop now and celebrate!

Yay!

Okay, now I will give you the 1% to success…

The reason you opened this email.

What will you do this next week to improve 1%?

How will you adjust your time, energy, focus, or money, so that you achieve the EXTREMELY HIGH level of 1% improvement?

Think about it.

If you improved your situation by 1% every week, where would you be in a month? (4.33% improved)

How about 6 months? (26% improved)

How about a year? (52% improved)

Wait…How about 5 years? (260% improved)

This is the all important:
-Dedication to the basics
-Diligent change and growth
-Focused intensity with hard work, and patient endurance

consistency1

Maybe your still convinced that 1% is not enough.

Besides pointing out almost every New Year’s Resolution fail, and most of society’s burnt out attitude because of trying to do too much too soon…
…let me illustrate with three areas of life:

1. Weight Loss
2. Strength Gains
3. Financial Wealth

If 1% improvement in weight loss is only a half of a pound:

-1 month, you have lost 2 pounds
-6 months, you have lost 13 pounds
-1 year, you have lost 26 pounds!!
-5 years, you probably don’t even have 130 pounds to lose!!

If 1% improvement in strength is 5 pounds added to your 5 rep maximum of Hex-bar dead lifts.

-1 month, you have added 20 pounds to the bar.
-6 months, you have added 130 pounds to your 5 rep maximum.
-1 year, you are 260 pounds stronger
-5 years, you are now lifting most European cars (maxing out 1300 pounds over the start.

On the last two examples, there will be a point at which you may slow down, and then maintain, which opens up the possibility to pursue another slow and steady 1% goal…financial Wealth anyone?

If 1% improvement in financial wealth is investing $100 every week (email me for ideas to easily save $100 per week even if you are broke) into a consistently successful mutual fund earning a conservative 12%…(be prepared to be amazed)

be not afraid of going slow

-1 month you have $433.
-6 months you have $2600.
-1 year you have $5200.
-5 years you have $36,998.98 Whoa!!

*Bonus for extra patient endurance*
*30 years*
*You have earned $1,405,521.55.*
*You are now a millionaire, all you need is a little focus, patience, and time…*

So, the question is, what is your deepest need, want, and desire?

Now make your desire a weekly discipline, and you WILL succeed!

“It is our disciplines, not our desires, that determine our destiny.”

Make your next 1%, your BEST 1%!

8 Ways To Get Out of Your Emotional Slump with Innovative Results

May 2, 2015 by IR Staff 1 Comment

Even coaches and leaders get into emotional slumps…and I was in one recently–NOT COOL, and most definitely NOT GOOD if you have people that rely on you!

When in a slump, we must find what matters, and fight for it.

How did I know I was in a slump?

  • Getting up in the morning was a chore, and I didn’t become fully awake, alive, and energized until about 7am, which is THREE HOURS and 15 minutes INTO MY DAY!
  • I felt like I wasn’t productive or high-performing.
  • My training sets were barely finished, and lower performing than the earlier weeks.
  • I craved sugar, beer, wine, and crappy food.
  • Water sounded gross.
  • My time with God and relationships in life felt disconnected or disjointed.

Why did this happen to me?

Not the greatest question to ask in the middle of a slump, unless you want to play the victim, and spend more time in your slump. Taking responsibility for yourself and confronting the brutal facts is top priority if you are going to make it out.

I am not sure if it was because I was in an ethereal-spiritual-philosophical haze of having a brand new baby girl or not working for over a week (I still worked, but very little compared to my normal) or it was just my time to experience a low week or time…but I was down.

Here is what I do to help me pull out of the downward spirals (which have been known to happen to me about once every three months or so, and are much shorter lived than in my past):

  1. Smiling– Smiling has been shown to change the state of a person by many studies that I have read and researched in a very small amount of time. This takes a choice and an action. Here is a great Innovative Results video on the power of a smile:
  2. Drinking enough water– Too many times I was down because of dehydration, only to realize that a few glasses of water, picked me back up to full speed again. Here is another Innovative Results video on hydration.
  3. Eating Healthy Foods, not Foods that my Stress Desires– I have a MAJOR sweet tooth (it is such a problem that my wife has to hide any sugar items if she wants to enjoy them in moderation, because she knows I will SMASH a whole bucket of sugary stuff at night to satiate my horrible cravings). Eating junk foods: anything that comes in a box, bag, or is ordered through an electrical communication device is not going to pull you out of your emotionalor energy slumber. It is going to crank you up into a euphoric cloud, and then drop you deeper than you were before. CHOOSE FOODS THAT GOD MADE, and if man has messed with them RUN AWAY!! Here is an Innovative Results video on meal preparation and nutrition:
  4. Prayer and Meditation– In my personal experience, I have felt relief by handing over the issues to a power greater than me. I have also read many studies and books in my Masters on leadership Studies that displayed empirical studies and experiential observations that prayer and meditation helped the individual in their spiritual, physical, mental and emotional states. Here is an Innovative Results video on thankfulness and breathing, which can be both prayer and meditation:
  5. A little bit of daily exercise goes a long way– Again, too many studies have proven that this is one of the BEST ways to FEEL BETTER! Here is an Innovative Results video with an exercise you can do anywhere, and you will feel better afterward:
  6. Daily Affirmation, Scripture Memory, Direction, and Vision Board Daily– Even when I am bored with it, or bummed out. I have heard it said, that ‘grace cannot be earned, but it is not opposed to effort.’ By Dallas Willard, and I think the individual plays a major role in what happens to us in this amazing Universe, despite your belief system. Here is an Innovative Results video for your success, where we share our belief in you:
  7. Relationship with God and Others Renewed- An planned intimate venture with the one’s you love, or the one’s that love you can really help carry you out of your hole, and give you a breath of life! Here is an Innovative Results video, where we share our appreciation for our relationship with you:
  8. Simplify- Just take one moment or task at a time. The last steps out of my slump, was repeating to myself, “I can. I will. I must.” “Just do one task.” and “I can do all things through Christ that gives me strength.” Phil 4:13 These three simple phrases, helped me to two simple things (get rid of all the dirt that was in my backyard, and write an email). Here is an Innovative Results video where we show you how simply improving your posture has HUGE implications in the improvement of your mood and motivation:

Afterwards, I felt the grip of dark emotions and slowed energy lift from me, and become replaced with what I describe as my high normal (feeling awake, alive, and energized…fully capable, competent, and confident…READY TO SMASH…Ready to LIVE!…READY TO SERVE…Joyfully praising through my life’s purpose.

I believe that every slump and down part of our life has much to teach us, just like failure and winning has much to teach us as well.

If you have read and watched your way to the end of this article, I hope you already feel better, and I am looking forward to fighting the good fight with you this day, week, and life!!

May your mood be lifted, your dreams be tangible, your actions be swift, and your days be blessed beyond belief!

Make your next one, your best one!

It’s Mental Fortitude, Clarity & a New Level of Awesome for Emma!

November 14, 2014 by ptpt Leave a Comment

Emma head shotThroughout my journey with IR, I’ve had family and friends ask about what kind of gym I belong to. As I explain to them how I’ve drug a chain around the block a few times, pushed iron sleds around the astro turf, slung kettlebells around, or played keep-away with “swords” around a gigantic tire, they either look at me like I’m completely nuts or assume it must be another one of those “crossfit places.” I’ll readily admit that I have to have a few screws loose to enjoy swinging a 16kg kettlebell around for 5 to 10 minutes at a time, but IR is the furthest thing from the crossfit craze. Let me explain…

About three years ago, I began training with Aaron’s now wife, Keri. From the moment I walked into the gym, I felt a warmth and positive energy that was contagious.

Being out of shape at the time, I felt slightly apprehensive joining a new fitness community fearful of my inability to keep up with those around me. Keri began where all IR training does, working on my mindset.

As I reflect on the ways IR has changed my life, I realize that while my physical strength was dormant, my mental fortitude needed a lot of work. As a full-time student and employee, I often found myself frustrated, tired, and easily giving up when stress seemed to be at every corner of my life. During the summer of my first year at IR, Keri trained me for the one-mile rope pull—one of IR’s notorious fitness challenges. At first, I thought it seemed nearly impossible to yank a thick rope 16 times around a pole in the dead heat of summer. Chipping away at each pull, Keri pushed me to reach beyond what I thought my physical limits were; one mile of rope and two blistered hands later, I completed the challenge. From that moment I was hooked on the ways of IR, and I became a glutton for their butt-kicking, mind-over-matter, brutal workouts (insert towel taz, bear crawls, jungle gym relays and slosh pipe jump squats here).Emma-1024x577

Fast forward a few years, and throw training with Aaron into the mix…talk about reaching a new level of fitness. I took a few months off in 2013 returned to the new facility. I thought IR was rad before, but the new place blew me away. It is a complete embodiment of what Innovative Results stands for. Fitness is a lifestyle; it isn’t stagnant or confined within a room of steel (that half of the members don’t even know how to use correctly), or flexing your muscular ability to the gym-goer next to you. IR understands fitness as a whole and makes “working out” functional to our lives. I’ll be honest, I was totally a closet gym rat who saw progress as a means of perfecting my dead-lift form, or maxing out a few unrealistic-weighted squats.

For the past 12 months, Aaron has guided me through a significant growth not only as an athlete, as well as my outlook on life. He introduced me to my most recent fitness addiction of Givroy Sport… a time saving translation: swinging a kettlebell as many times as you can within ten minutes with perfect form and mental focus to not give up. I faced a couple set backs that prevented me to reach my ultimate goal of competing with the rest of IR’s kettlebell addicts. Whether it was school on the weekends or a back injury, Aaron coached me through some pretty frustrating plateaus. Ultimately teaching me to dig deep and keep the bigger picture in perspective, turning negative emotions into motivation to push further and harder than I have yet. I’ve shared the following thought with Aaron before, but it is worth sharing with the rest of the IR community and those who are looking to start their own fitness journey…I can honestly say that my preconceived understanding of ‘fitness’ completely morphed through kb training. It’s so easily confined within a definition that is restrictive in its physical or aesthetic attributes. I totally dig that perk of being fit (I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t a factor), but that is only scratching the surface. The mental fortitude and clarity I’ve developed gives ‘fitness’ a new level of awesome in its meaning both inside the IR playground and my everyday life.

Tire View of IR

So, for those of you who are reading my story who are on the fence about making a lifestyle change, wanting to drop a few pounds, or add a new dynamic to your life… let Innovative Results get you there. I promise, it will be the best decision you make and don’t be surprised if you find yourself craving a metabolic workout in the middle of your day. Thank you Aaron, and the rest of the Innovative Results Team for the muscles I never thought I would have. Oh and most of all, the sanity to get through my non-stop week through your insane workouts and smile you bring to my face the moment I walk through the door. You’ve changed my life for the better.

IR3 Recovery with Soft Tissue Manipulation, Temperature, and Activation

May 31, 2014 by ptpt 1 Comment

By Mason MurphyKeri & Hannah Foam Roll

It doesn’t take much thought to do a couple of stretches after a workout.

Maybe you throw your arm across your chest to stretch out your shoulder, grab your ankle and lift it behind you to stretch your quad, and maybe add two minutes on a treadmill  for a bit of variety.   After all, those are the only techniques you need to recover right?

Not true.

So many people are unaware of the fact that they need to learn and apply certain techniques in their post workout, that is essential for their recovery.

Luckily, there are three main examples of techniques that can be applied to any person regardless of their athletic status and those are soft tissue manipulation, temperature, and activation.

Soft tissue manipulation is a technique that can be used to reduce muscle tension, spasms, reduce pain, and improve an athlete’s range of motion.

Check out our extensive list of videos for mobility here. http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3fuV_SLp-GFOycvhJGMnnO0D5N4dndVg

lower leg smr

Even though it seems that the muscle relaxation with soft tissue manipulation techniques is a short-term outcome, it can help create long-term benefits.

You can manage this by using a rumble roller (http://youtu.be/65DvdpEZXS8) or trigger point kit to relax those muscle aches and pain.

If you’re on a budget and you’re at home, a tennis ball or baseball can be used to roll out those muscle tensions.

Temperature is another technique that many people are not aware of that has a tremendous amount of recovery benefits.

Taking a hot shower and then switching to cold water is a very simple temperature technique that reduces muscle soreness and tension as well as speeding up recovery.

Ice bath, Ice packs, and thermal messages are other tools you can use at home or at a facility to relax your muscles and they are relatively inexpensive.

Lastly, Activation is not a common technique that most people are aware of, but has a tremendous amount of benefits when it comes to pre-workout preparation and post workout recovery. http://youtu.be/bfpsSBg8x3Y

Most people think that activation is another form of stretching or some form of yoga, but the reality is that activation is a specific technique to activate a certain muscle group, before or after a workout, to relax and release any muscle tension that may prevent an individual from getting the full range of motion they need to perform a specific exercise.trigger point therapy kit

Activation technique such as glute activation, hip activation, and shoulder activation are the most common examples of activation.

They are best incorporated with the warm up or cool down to wake up those muscle groups and to relieve any muscle tension.

If you take these techniques seriously they can help prevent injury that might hinder the progress towards your fitness goals.

Innovative Results will be hosting Rumble Roller’s 2 Day Clinic on the 23+ Fundamental SMR Techniques!

This is a great chance for anyone looking to keep their body in top shape, and an excellent opportunity for coaches to improve their recovery and SMR techniques for their clients.

marine recruits

In March 2014, Innovative Results welcomed 20+ USMC Poolees from Santa Ana to prep for their upcoming physical tests prior to heading off to boot camp.

Today, 22 year old Cristobal Pacheco is headed off to USMC Boot Camp!

Cris has showed an immense amount of dedication to his training, and the IR Team is so excited for him and the next chapter of his life.

“Sergeant Guyett good morning sir! I’m leaving on Monday to boot camp, just wanted to text you and tell you thank you for everything you have done for me in the last month and the opportunity to get better. Last Friday I did the max pull ups they would allow at 10, idk why they just made us do ten, but regardless I felt strong enough to at least get 16, my run time was better by 15 seconds at 9:50 and I had 105 sit ups! Those are all best ever scores! I give all the credit to Innovative Results for giving me the extra edge in my performance game! I hope we can still keep in touch once I become a Marine sir! Thank you and God Bless Sergeant!”

– Cris Pacheco

Congratulations Cris & Good Luck at Boot Camp!!

Alica Continues to Beat Personal Bests and IR Records after 2 years

May 25, 2012 by ptpt 3 Comments

Alica Ryan takes on new challenges every day and not just at the IR Facility!  Rain, Heat, and multiple mileage will not keep Alica out of the competition… because for her, THERE IS NO FINISH LINE!

Here is Alica’s Story:

First of all, as you may know now due to my music video; I work out! I work out at Innovative Results with Jeffrey DeRitter twice a week, but I also stay busy on my days and nights not at IR. I run, do yoga, spin, lift weights, or whatever Groupon offers that peeks my interest. I’m the type of person that when I miss a deadline for a race that I want to run, I will run 14 miles just so that I can prove to myself that I could have run that race plus some.

I have always been able to maintain an average weight, although on occasion my clothes feel a little tighter than usual. I was even a trainer at some point for a gym myself. During that time I was the proudest of my body that I had ever been. The problem though back then was that I didn’t know how to eat. I thought that a bowl of Honey Bunches of Oats and fat-free milk was a perfectly healthy meal to eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I was starving my body of essential nutrients, and not fueling my body properly for the trauma that I was putting it through. So like most good things, my body didn’t stay the way I wanted it to for very long.

When I started at Innovative Results, I have to admit that I didn’t think I would last there for very long. I had a bit of arrogance, thinking that I knew enough to get the results that I wanted on my own. With that in mind I only signed up for a month to month membership. Well one month has changed into almost 2 years, and without an ending in sight.

I still feel that I know enough about my body and working out to get the results that I want, but I don’t think that is where people fail. I think it takes more than just knowing what to do to get the job done; it takes support and motivation to help see you through to your end result.

Innovative Results, and especially Jeff, has seen more potential in me than I would have ever seen in myself. The way they push you, knowing that you are holding back, and knowing you have what it takes to get there. I have no problem with going out and pushing myself when it comes to running; running is my comfort zone. But to believe that I am capable of pushing a sled for an entire mile or encouraging me to beat my personal record with the Versa Climber are things that I could not have done without their support.

My body is what it is, and I am proud of how hard I have worked to earn it. My body has not only transformed in the 30 days of this challenge but has been transforming since I started at IR. I have muscle definition that was never there before, and the stamina to get me through some of the craziest and most intense workouts. My diet fuels my body for whatever is to come that day at IR, and doesn’t weigh or slow me down.

The transformation challenge (February 2012) was exactly that…a challenge to say the least. For some reason I was extremely anxious about it the entire time. The Versa Climber has become my nemesis, and although I didn’t defeat it today, it will still happen. My biggest challenge was getting over my own mental block. I end up selling my self short and then disappointed myself with the outcome. Having a trainer like Jeff, who encouraged me and gave me the tools to accomplish my goals, was priceless. Over the many workouts that I have had with him he has learned the areas in which I lack, and those are where he gives the helping hand. The fact that he knows what I am capable of and never lets me give up is what is so great about IR.

And if that wasn’t enough for this go-getter, Alica created a 365 Day Nutrition Blog – Pura Vida Nutrition

Congratulations on all your successes Alica!!

Wednesday Body Care Tips from Balance in Motion

April 4, 2012 by ptpt 3 Comments

Greetings from Balance in Motion!

Here are your tips for getting over the hump of your week and exercise routine starts with successful injury prevention and recovery!

The first step in accomplishing this goal is listening to your body.  We live mainly in our head with constant texting, email, and thinking. Exercise is a great way to reconnect and escape, but taking a “No Pain No Gain” approach and pushing too hard leads to sprains, strains, tears, and burnout.

Many patients treated at BALANCE IN MOTION start with very little body awareness; and therefore, push past their limits and get injured. Don’t make the same mistakes and end up not being able to exercise for months.

3 recommendations to improve your mind/ body awareness

1. Get stimulated in all the right ways.  The best way to get connected is to rouse your body’s communication pathways. A chiropractic adjustment boosts the link between your brain and your body by stimulating mechanoreceptors in your joints and muscles that tell your brain about your body’s position. If you are out of alignment or have had a previous injury to an area this feedback system can be impaired leading to injury.

2. Don’t paint over your check engine light. Pain is our body’s way of telling us there is a problem. So don’t do things to fix it that simply mask it.  Stop taking pain killers and anti-inflammatories. Not only is this habit hard on your liver and kidneys, it doesn’t allow you to feel your body and the possible damage you might be causing during your workouts.

3. Take a deep breath. Stopping to breathe and doing specific breath work during your workout helps you stay aware and improve oxygenation.

Feeling muscle tension or joint pain, find out if misalignment could be the culprit.

Call (949) 515-4006 or contact us  this week and schedule a complimentary consult and exam including one x-ray if needed. (Save $195 and get points for your City Transformation Team for taking action to prevent injury)

  1. I want you to be diligent and disciplined.
  2. Write down what you are eating and bring it for me to see everyday you train with me.
  3. Do something active on the days you don’t train and tell me about it the next time I see you.
  4. Give me 100% when you train with me.
  5. Laugh a lot and be happy!
  6. Use only positive ways to communicate with me. If I hear negativity, I will make you change your self-talk right away.

Got big thighs?

January 14, 2009 by ptpt 2 Comments

Question

Is there a better way to train, especially women, who have bigger legs and thighs? I have heard that high impact training not be right for them.

Answer

What a great question. The answer requires some background in Functional Anatomy and Serial Distortion Patterns. Let us discus. Serial distortion patterns develop over a period of time. They are very insidious in nature. One of the most common patterns has to do with women who wear high heels and sit for a large part of the day. High heels do not just mean 8 inch stilettos. Most tennis shoes people wear are considered high heels. If the heel of the shoe is built up at all, it is considered a high heel. This would constantly keep the calf in a shortened position. This shortened position tends to make the foot roll out laterally. The foot rolled out would in turn roll out the tibia. The tibia rolled laterally would place stress at the knee and eventually lead to a lateral rotation at the femur. This would shorten the biceps femoris and the piriformis. Because she sits for a large part of the day, we can assume that her hip flexors, especially the iliopsoas, will also be shortened. When the hip flexors are shortened, the hip extensors are lengthened. The hip extensors are the glutes. Thus, the glutes are not strong and tend to look flabby. It also tends to be the area in which women generally hold any extra adipose tissue they may have. The femurs are rolled out and the greater trochanter sticks out to give the appearance of an even larger hip complex. I would also wonder if she has lower back problems. Most people with this type of serial distortion will incur low back pain.

Another common sign that this serial distortion pattern is occurring is to check her IT band. The IT band is located on the outside of the femur from the knee up to the hip. If she were to roll her IT on a pliofoam roller and mention some extreme discomfort, we are on the same page.

Now that we may have determined what is going on, what do you do? There are some general guidelines to follow. We need to loosen what is tight and tighten what is loose. This is easier said then done. I agree with your earlier comment that she should stay away from high impact events, at least at first. We need to prepare her for impact events before she starts that type of routine. Currently, with the imbalances that are occurring in her body, a high impact program would increase her chances of injury significantly. I would say that the most important part of her program would be flexibility. You must establish proper length-tension relationships before we place outside stress to the structures. We must stretch the calves and hip flexors. Please refer to the stretching exercises in that portion of PT on the Net.com. After we have stretched her out, the program should incorporate many exercises involving the glutes. Both the gluteus maximus and medius need to be addressed. We can accomplish this most efficiently by having her stand up while performing her exercises. One must have an adjustable cable column or a set of resistance tubing to do this most effectively. I would like to recommend the Ground Zero adjustable cable column or the LifeFitness dual adjustable pulley. Another helpful hint is to have her try to do her exercises either in a squat type position or even done standing on one leg and alternating legs between the sets. Standing on one leg and making sure the opposite side hip does not drop will concentrate on the standing side gluteus medius. This technique will actually burn more calories than traditional weight training and will focus on her specific needs of working the lumbo-pelvic-hip complex more efficiently. Thank you for your thought provoking question. Let us know if there are any other training scenarios we can help you with.

Orange County Personal Trainer talks about Allergy Medicine and Exercise

January 10, 2009 by ptpt 5 Comments

Question:

I have exercise-induced allergies, and I am training for a marathon. I went to the doctor and all I got was Claritin. What can I do?

Answer:

There is the classic East meets West answer for this question. I am drawn between answering this question in a neat and tidy Western influenced answer and answering the way I want to with an Eastern flare, so I will attempt to do both. At our clinic in Los Angeles, we try to tackle all problems with an eclectic point of view. The Western thought of your allergies would tell us that with all this training for a marathon, you have developed an allergic reaction to some of the irritants outside. Most experts agree that even with severe allergies, exercise should not be cut out of one’s daily routine. The exerciser should try to make informed choices on his/her exercise program. The first step is to try to nail down exactly what you are allergic to. Screening for the particular allergen can only be done by an allergy specialist. The allergist will put you through a series of distinctive tests, shots and trials until they can narrow down the possibilities. A great web site I would like to refer you to is drkoop.com.

If we look at the rise in allergies and quirky aches and pains in today’s society, we will see that it has hit epidemic proportions. Has the earth really gotten that much worse in the last 20 years? I don’t think so. There is a book called Heal Thy Self by Saki Santorelli that I think you may be interested in if you want to open up your mind for a while. Another author I strongly recommend is Mary Louise Hayes. These authors delve into the reality of self healing and realizing that allergies are signs saying that the body as a whole is not liking what is going on right now. To medicate and try to mask the real issues can put you on a roller coaster of Western medications, surgeries and quick fixes to line the pockets of extremely wealthy pharmaceutical companies. We strongly recommend anyone who is undertaking any exercise program, let alone a task like a marathon, to take time for their inner being as well as their exterior. Far too often exercise enthusiasts will turn ill for no apparent reason. People will ask if exercise is so healthy, why did those people get sick or worse? The reason is quite simple really. Exercise is nothing more than stress to your body. Hopefully, the stress is placed in such a way that we adapt to the systematic stress placed on the system to become a stronger organism.

What should you do? Track the time you spend in training for your marathon, and compare it to the time you spend in healing exercises such as deep, tranquil meditation or prayer. How does it balance out? Most exercisers will topple the scale in athletic pursuits and preparations without giving a second thought to their inner spirits or their mind power. Even the IDEA trainer magazine’s cover story in the May 2002 issue is “Focus on Psychology.” In this article Dr. Jim Galvin delves into the concept of how our emotional histories may actually sculpt our physical selves. He raises the idea that people look a certain way based on their mental states and past experiences. He goes so far as to say that trainers may be doing their clients a disservice if they don’t take into account the client’s mental well being. APEX nutrition stated in their certification course that the number one determining factor of whether an exercise and nutritional program is going to be successful was the mental state of the individual at the time of undertaking the program. Yet, for two days we did not discuss psychology of any kind.

We are being bombarded by the quick fix attitude and the 99 cent heart attacks on a daily basis, but occasionally a book or movie will inspire our creative nature. The two latest movies that may intrigue your inner spirit are K-pax and Pay It Forward. In K-pax, Kevin Spacey actually states that, “All life forms have the power to heal themselves, we just choose to ignore it.” I wouldn’t feel right if I didn’t mention that there are programs to help people take an active role in their overall health. Paul Chek has a program called “Optimal Health and Fitness through Nutrition and Lifestyle” that I think is right on the mark. The NCEP also has a class dealing with the psychology of sport and exercise. The concept of mind, body and soul have been with us since the beginning of time. They are meant to create balance in one’s life. The choice is yours to accept.

I didn’t intend to overdo the alternative healing routes on you without warning. This article was in no way meant to say that you don’t legitimately have an ailment in which a suitable medication may be available. I intended this article to provoke thought on a different level to our readers. Thank you for allowing the forum of question to convey this message. I hope I answered your question proficiently in both Eastern and Western styles
