hectic scheduleSetting up a Mindset For Success

By: Innovative Results Coach, Dane Fernandez

Do you remember getting ready for your first day of work at a new job, or your first day at a new school or new gym?

Can you recall the feeling you felt the night before the big day?

How did you feel?

Did you feel excited, motivated, and ready?

What kind of mindset did you possess at the time?

Was it a mindset that was willing to accomplish and achieve goals?

Were you able to feel the passion to succeed?

If you answered “yes” to any of the preceding questions you may have felt motivation and maybe even possessed motivation for a period of time.

Motivation is a powerful force which is distinctive to each and every individual. Motivation is also experienced and expressed differently from individual to individual, that’s the beauty of it.

If you ever felt motivation can you recall how long it lasted?

How did your mindset affect your motivational will to succeed?

Were you able to keep your mindset strong day in and day out?

Or, was your mindset lacking positive reinforcement?

lasting-motivation-zig-ziglar It turns out that maintenance of your Mindset is the key component towards achieving your goals.

By keeping a consistent positive Mindset, you’ll be sure to achieve and keep achieving your present and future goals.

This article will be able to help you if you are someone who is searching for ideas to help maintain a positive mindset in order to keep you motivated in the gym, or someone who is always looking for ways of improving your daily habits.

attitude-is-everythingMindset can be broken down into three components. These three components are split up into Attitude, Motivation, and Support. I will talk about these three components of Mindset individually, and then talk about how they are interconnected with each other before finally relating them all back to Mindset. In order for one to accomplish a long term goal, they will need to execute a well thought out plan. By focusing on building a strong Mindset, you will be able to strategically plan out your goals. The first component that addresses one’s Mindset is Attitude.

Attitude is everything and starts within yourself. Finding the right attitude is easy, keeping the right attitude is where the work gets hard. If your attitude is lacking then chances are other aspects of your life are lacking as well. Your attitude sets up your behavior in any given task. When you are able to  apply a positive attitude towards everything you do, success will be inevitable. Attitude has the ability to set up other attributes or components to a positive Mindset.

In order to establish a great attitude self reflection is necessary. At the beginning and ending of each day, it’s important to take 2-5 minutes in order  to do some self-reflection. This time can be used constructively to plan out your upcoming day’s tasks and goals. This time can also be used to reflect and look back on your completed day’s work in order to gauge your successes and failures. By doing five minutes of self reflection you are able to establish a means of personal accountability.

After you complete your reflection you will have a better idea of what works for you and what doesn’t. You will be better situated to put your action into motion for the following days, weeks, and months to come. This type of self reflection will help you to create and establish a positive feedback loop to success. Once this positive feedback loop is created you will need help keeping it functioning. This is where the next component to Mindset comes into play; Motivation.

motivationMotivation is more than a cool video or meme. It’s a feeling, it’s a desire, it’s a want. When dealing with motivation it’s important to look at the different types of motivation and how they set up consistent behavior which creates positive habits.

In general there are two types of motivation, intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Intrinsic motivation deals with behavior driven by internal rewards. Extrinsic motivation tends to deal with performing a behavior or engaging in an activity that will earn a reward or to avoid punishment.

Usually, extrinsic motivation will be hard to sustain due to the reward system. With extrinsic motivation you are looking for a means to an end. Somewhere down the line you’ll get burnt out and tired of this motivational feed. In order to be successful you must find a good intrinsic motivator. By establishing an internal reward system you are able to build up your confidence and ability to complete tasks. By conducting a slow and steady approach, your motivation will be better situated to last in the long run.

This all goes back to the kind of attitude you are able to construct. Without the right attitude you’ll have a hard time finding the right kind of motivation to seek out. With your attitude set and your motivation found, you are ready to get started at achieving your goals. After the initial burst of energy burns off, you will need to dig deep in order to keep things rolling. For this you will need to establish and develop a great support system. This leads us to the last component of Mindset; Support.

Support Group ReminderSupport or Support System(s) is the last peace to the Mindset puzzle. Support is a necessary component for a foundation to hold strong. It’s difficult to build a strong Mindset if the Support System is lacking to hold everything together. A Support System can be held together by looking a one’s environment, friends, and family. By having a great environment with positive contributing friends and family, you are surrounding yourself for success. You will need someone to lean on when the going gets tough. Surrounding yourself with the right friends and family can make all the difference in the world. Your friends and family are some of the most influential people in your life and they can be a great positive Support System. You have to be able to turn to your family and friends when you feel or experience self doubt. It is their support that will make all the difference in your succession of your goals. If you are able to surround yourself with positive people that keep you motivated and are able to keep you on track, you will have set up another means of accountability for your actions.

A Support System is not complete until you have found a coach that is willing to help you along the way. Look for a fitness coach that will discuss goals and ideas with you. By finding a fitness coach, you will be able to connect to your goals on a deeper level making it more meaningful and concrete. Your coach can help you fine tune your fitness goals and make them more realistic for your desired time-frame. With the right tools and intentions, you can administer the ultimate plan for success.

Only when you are able to implement all three of these components of Mindset into your daily life, you’ll be able to start making positive progress towards your lifestyle goals. Once you are able to believe in your plan of action, your Attitude, Motivation, and Support will be the pillars upholding your Mindset.

Now it’s time to go out and set up your Mindset for success.

6 Ways We Improve Your Mental Toughness During Innovative Results Active Performance Training

May 31, 2016 by IR Staff 1 Comment

Check out the video below to see a small snippet of Innovative Results Active Performance Training.

Every person that trains with the Active Performance fitness training class, must try-out, which ensures each individual has less risk and higher reward.

6 Ways We Improve Your Mental Toughness During Innovative Results Active Performance Training
Tryouts are the first Tuesday of each month at 6am & 6pm

Once they pass the rigors of try-outs, which includes pull-ups, push-ups, deadlifts, front squats, VersaClimber, and jump rope, they begin the process of increasing their performance and capacity.

This is a very physical process, which is programmed and coached by the best fitness coaches in Orange County.

But believe it or not, it is far more mental than physical.

Here are the 6 Ways We Improve Your Mental Toughness During Innovative Results Active Performance Training:

  1. Progressive Training Programs
  2. Giving Your Best, Even On Your Off Days
  3. Positive and Intentional Coaching
  4. Positive Support and Friendships
  5. Safely Pushing Beyond Physical Limits
  6. Staying Committed and Consistent for the Long Haul

The amount of mental toughness that is needed to overcome the obstacles, excuses, and physical demands of the training cycles is far greater than the training sessions themselves.

We all experience doubt, fatigue, laziness, confusion, lack of focus, anxiety, and even depression when we move toward our improved quality of life.

Let’s break down the ways that mental toughness is trained with a little bit more detail.

Progressive Training Programs

6 Ways We Improve Your Mental Toughness During Innovative Results Active Performance Training
Crawl Before You Walk, Walk Before Your Run

By utilizing progressive training programs, you can build a strong mental toughness without being demoralized by an overwhelming program or training cycle. Training cycles should build upon themselves, not be so difficult that you can never complete them. This type of intelligent and progressive training programming is not found in most gyms and training systems these days. It is okay to be humbled from time to time, but if every workout or training cycle is so hard that you cannot complete it, the person will end up quitting not overcome mentally.

Giving Your Best, Even On Your Off Days

victoria anthony collage, mental toughness, strong, active performanceWe all have off days, and those are the hardest days to commit, come train anyway, and overcome mentally and physically. That is why it is so important to make the commitment and do the work. When we let off days stop us in our tracks, it can be a slipper slope. I am not saying overtrain, or train when you are injured…be smart, and give the best that you have for that day, which might mean dynamic stretching, mobility, and light aerobic work. It may also mean, digging deep and doing the hard work that today demands. Each situation is different, but quitting is never the answer.

Positive and Intentional Coaching

mental toughness, mentally tough, good coaching, Aaron GuyettA positive and intentional coach, knows their clients and students. He or she will make the right adjustments, hold back, stay silent, speak up, demand more, etc. depending on the student and situation. If you are getting increases in your physical and mental strength and endurance, than your coach knows what he or she is doing, if not, it is time to have a conversation with your coach. If after the conversation, the coach doesn’t change and neither do your results…find another coach.

Positive Support and Friendships

Ladera Ranch Personal Trainer, ankorr, zuu, mental toughness, mentally tough, support, strongI have never seen, not heard of a lone wolf make it in the wild, and I have also never seen a lone wolf type person make it in a difficult training cycle. We are social creatures, and we need to be pushed, challenge, encouraged, inspired, motivated, and moved by our support and friendships. Just because Rambo and Chuck Norris are awesome on screen, doesn’t mean it works in real life. This is real life, and we need support and friendships to do incredible things.

Safely Pushing Beyond Physical Limits

Ankorr, zuu, mason, innovative results, mentally tough, mental toughness, strong, crawlAt Innovative Results, we are very picky about how we choose to push people past their perceived physical limitations. We do not choose box jumps or heavy barbell lifts overhead…that is a recipe for disaster. We choose low impact, high results exercises like ZUU, Ankorr, VersaClimber, FRC, sled, prowler, battle ropes, and other body weight movements. This way we can increase force without increasing risk. It is important to take the body to a level that is beyond what the person perceives they can do, and then show them, it was their mind that decided that is where they needed to stop. In doing this, the mind and body is taught a valuable lesson. When the mind quits, the body quits…it is NEVER the other way around.

Staying Committed and Consistent For The Long Haul

Kettlebell Crew, Kettlebell Team, Kettlebell, strong, mental toughness, medals, medalThis is probably the hardest part of building mental strength. Discipline seems to be a bad word these days, but the rewards found after someone stays consistent for 100 training sessions, and ALWAYS INCREDIBLE!! Never once have I heard of someone saying they regretted working out three days per week for the last three years. Never once do I hear Innovative Results long time veterans complain of price and value. They understand the high value they receive, and they would probably pay triple what they pay to receive the training they earn every week.

May your next week be your best week, and may your mental toughness sore after reading these 6 tips.

Your unique human experience is so personal, so special that no one gets to experience it but you.

Literally every thought, every idea, every opinion you’ve had has only been seen through the lens of your perception.

You not only live your life, you create it.

You have the power to change your life through reconstructing your INTERNAL WORLD; your thoughts, words, and actions.

A positive attitude is intentional, and if you can think, speak, and act consistently in this way, you will manifest more motivation, happiness, and improved life conditions.

playground workoutWhat is often not realized, is how much power you have to reconstruct your EXTERNAL WORLD.

Are you in an environment for self-transformation and success?

Does you coach allow you to be vulnerable, yet encourage you to discover the strength that already resides within you?

Do your friends uplift you and empower you to strive towards becoming your greatest you?

Understanding that you can change your surroundings will give yourself room to grow, experiment, and begin designing the life of your dreams.

A healthy support system allows others to embrace you, magnify your strengths, and encourage you to be exactly who you want to be.

ENVIRONMENT

Your environment matters.playground

It is your home, your workplace, the places you go, and the energy you emanate from your body.

If you are noticing an underlying feeling of frustration, impatience, or restlessness during your day, reflect on your current situation.

This edginess might be the results of your dissatisfaction with your environment.

Why would you constantly go somewhere that doesn’t make you happy?

Your environment is your path towards becoming your greatest potential.

Place yourself in areas that allow you to triumph.

Engage in work that feeds your authentic self.

Make sure each step you take is a step towards somewhere that allows you to grow exponentially.

In regards to training, the psychological and physical benefits of exercise can be altered by the exercise environment you work out in.

A coach that not only cares about your fitness goals, but truly cares about helping you tap into your potential, to succeed during training but create that same success everyday of your life. (Hint: Innovative Results)

Exercising is meant to create tiny tears in your muscles, not tears in your confidence and self-image.

Continuously spend time around people who add something to your life, who can be a positive support and fill you with a desire to express yourself.

Your exuberance is often fueled by the people you are around most.

Surround yourself with people who kindle your spirit.

Communicate with ones that emulate the success you want to render in your own life.

Allow others to see the greatness within you and inspire you, to release you from self-doubt and build your self-esteem.

The best friends are the ones that genuinely support you, with unconditional love and acceptance.

Who you spend time with the most will contribute to how you will feel and what you will experience.

This sometimes means walking away from the negative people, the toxic people, and the ones that serve you no purpose towards becoming your best.

Why would you spend time with people who don’t see how amazing you are?

Understanding the value of your friends will manifest a great feeling of enthusiasm for the people who mean so much to you.

Each day, we make choices that influence the character of our experiences.

Our decisions determine whether our paths are exhilarating or tedious, supported or tiresome.

Acquire the courage that drives you to surround yourself with support and notice the advantageous effects in every aspect of your life.

Is Your Support Group Holding You Back From Your Key Goals?

July 24, 2015 by Jessica Leave a Comment

Support Group ReminderSUPPORT

By Matthew Ferreira Kruse

For years I found myself in the same old hamster wheel spinning and spinning and wondering why I wasn’t reaching my goals and feeling like I was never going to get there. I would give it my all for a few weeks fall off the wagon again and feel burned out, and forgetting why I wanted those goals in the first place. From wanting to get over drug addiction to becoming fit and healthy I just couldn’t seem to figure out why I couldn’t stay determined.

What was keeping me from reaching my goals? Why couldn’t I stay on track and change my quality of life? And I realized it was the support system that I had that was holding me back.

ladies laughing during a session at Innovative ResultsThere are two kinds of support groups in my opinion:

One group is going to support your bad habits and continue to hold you back.

The other group is the one who supports you mentally physically and emotionally to reach your goals and providing a positive environment.

Look at your Support Group

Environment

My environment was what was holding me back; my support that I chose to be around was leading me in the wrong direction to Drugs, Alcohol Abuse and a general lack of care for myself. I was going nowhere fast and I needed to change quickly.

It’s simple and cliché but the truth is you can’t be flying with the eagles if your hanging out with the turkeys. So what do you do?

Change your environment, change your support group and find those who are going to push you in the right direction. For me it was finding those friends that wanted to positively change their life for the good. I was lucky enough for those friends to be Coach Mason Murphy and Madison Murphy.

The truth is if you think pro fighters who win fights and drug addicts who become sober for 20 years did it on their own, well think again because these people had a positive environment of coaching and a support to help them reach their goals.

CoachingSupport Group on Success

Now I’ve changed my environment where do I go from here, I needed direction and coaching to keep me on track.

Coaching isn’t just for the gym and sports but in every day life and just like at Innovative Results when you fall down and you tell yourself you can’t do it any more there’s your coach to help pick you up with positive affirmations and tell you “Come On Keep pushing, Don’t Quit!”

That’s exactly what you need inside and outside the gym, A coach who will be there when your face down in the dirt ready to give up but they won’t let you. And where is a better place to find that than Innovative Results!

But remember it goes both ways, you may not know all the workouts or warm ups or the new progressions but I know each and every person knows how to cheer someone on and being there to pick someone up when they’re tired or down or just having a bad day. So go out there and be a Coach for somebody not only will it make you feel better you will be improving someone’s quality of life!

Friends And Family

Now like I said getting all this new support and coaching is great but the most important part about it is, you get what you give!

Your life isn’t going to change in one night but you have to give that positive support back to others that are in need just like you are. So be conscious of your Friends and Family maybe there in need of some support just like you were. Maybe there looking for someone to open their ears to their problems and give them a hand.

The coaches, friends and family I have at Innovative Results have changed my life in ways I couldn’t of imagined years ago.  And what I always take away from IR is that you don’t ever quit because something is hard and you make sure the people around you are getting that positive support they need. Ever since I have been surrounded by the support I was always looking for I’ve been crushing goals left and right and I couldn’t have done it without the IR FAMILY!

The Innovative Results team prides itself as a strong support system to help you reach your goals. Come join the IR Family!
