Fitness Motivation Is About More Than Physical Results, Just Ask Jeff!

October 6, 2017 by Jessica 6 Comments

JeffSchofieldToday Innovative Results is stoked to highlight soccer stud, and director of the LA Galaxy South Bay College Prep Program for girls, Jeff Schofield!

When did you start training at Innovative Results?
I started in November of 2014

Why did you start training with Innovative Results?
I started training there because I was looking for something different than running and going to the gym on my own. Being a former collegiate athlete I missed the intensity of workouts, energy of exercising with other like-minded people, and motivation of coach/trainer. I chose Innovative Results because it worked perfectly with my schedule. I teach during the day and then am a soccer coach at night so I needed something early afternoon and their large number of class times worked well for me.

What have you improved since you started training with Innovative Results?
Of course, I have improved many physical aspects such as speed, strength, increased core strength, lower body fat, and my clothes fit better. It also improved many aspects of my life in addition to the physical. I enjoyed setting goals and working hard to attain them. I enjoyed the relationships I built with the other clients and trainers. I improved my self-image and confidence.

What kept you coming back to Innovative Results?
It is a competitive and motivating environment that includes unique exercises that are very functional for everyday life. I also enjoy that you do a certain set of exercises for 3 weeks, which allows you to set goals for that period and try to improve at those exercises before they change it for the next set of 3 weeks.

How has Innovative Results improved the other areas of your life (i.e. work, relationships, finances, education)?
I have mainly used the knowledge and exercise for my job in coaching soccer and as a PE teacher. There are so many ways to strengthen and increase mobility and flexibility using just body weight and I have adapted a lot of what I do at IR to my teams and classes. This last year I started at a new school and their percent of students that pass the Physical Fitness Test was 44%. I did a lot of exercises that I use at IR to help them improve. For students, they need a variety of exercises to prepare for the test not just the same push ups, sit-ups, mile run, etc. As a result, my students passed at a 73% rate. I credit IR for providing me the tools to help my students.

What advice do you have for someone who is just getting started with Innovative Results?
It is going to be challenging at first. You will be sore and some of the exercises you won’t quite get immediately, but have an open mind and stay with it. Before you know it, you will be one of the regulars that is encouraging the new people.

How has your life changed since you started training at Innovative Results?
I feel better physically which improves all aspects of life. I used to wake up in the morning and was in pain as I would get out of bed. That pain is gone and I am able to play soccer more consistently without being sore or in pain.

Who would you want to experience what you get to experience at Innovative Results?
I think anybody that is looking to improve their health should come and be a part of IR. There is every kind of client there from teenagers, elite athletes, former athletes, to injured clients. The workouts can be adapted for you to make it challenging for everyone and to get out of it what you want.

Why do you stay committed to your improvement in and out of the gym?
I realize that life is much more enjoyable when you are pain free and mentally it is good to challenge yourself.

Can you relate to Jeff’s story? We’d love to hear from you!

Setting up a Mindset For Success – By Innovative Results Coach, Dane Fernandez

April 3, 2017 by Dane 3 Comments

hectic scheduleSetting up a Mindset For Success

By: Innovative Results Coach, Dane Fernandez

Do you remember getting ready for your first day of work at a new job, or your first day at a new school or new gym?

Can you recall the feeling you felt the night before the big day?

How did you feel?

Did you feel excited, motivated, and ready?

What kind of mindset did you possess at the time?

Was it a mindset that was willing to accomplish and achieve goals?

Were you able to feel the passion to succeed?

If you answered “yes” to any of the preceding questions you may have felt motivation and maybe even possessed motivation for a period of time.

Motivation is a powerful force which is distinctive to each and every individual. Motivation is also experienced and expressed differently from individual to individual, that’s the beauty of it.

If you ever felt motivation can you recall how long it lasted?

How did your mindset affect your motivational will to succeed?

Were you able to keep your mindset strong day in and day out?

Or, was your mindset lacking positive reinforcement?

lasting-motivation-zig-ziglar It turns out that maintenance of your Mindset is the key component towards achieving your goals.

By keeping a consistent positive Mindset, you’ll be sure to achieve and keep achieving your present and future goals.

This article will be able to help you if you are someone who is searching for ideas to help maintain a positive mindset in order to keep you motivated in the gym, or someone who is always looking for ways of improving your daily habits.

attitude-is-everythingMindset can be broken down into three components. These three components are split up into Attitude, Motivation, and Support. I will talk about these three components of Mindset individually, and then talk about how they are interconnected with each other before finally relating them all back to Mindset. In order for one to accomplish a long term goal, they will need to execute a well thought out plan. By focusing on building a strong Mindset, you will be able to strategically plan out your goals. The first component that addresses one’s Mindset is Attitude.

Attitude is everything and starts within yourself. Finding the right attitude is easy, keeping the right attitude is where the work gets hard. If your attitude is lacking then chances are other aspects of your life are lacking as well. Your attitude sets up your behavior in any given task. When you are able to  apply a positive attitude towards everything you do, success will be inevitable. Attitude has the ability to set up other attributes or components to a positive Mindset.

In order to establish a great attitude self reflection is necessary. At the beginning and ending of each day, it’s important to take 2-5 minutes in order  to do some self-reflection. This time can be used constructively to plan out your upcoming day’s tasks and goals. This time can also be used to reflect and look back on your completed day’s work in order to gauge your successes and failures. By doing five minutes of self reflection you are able to establish a means of personal accountability.

After you complete your reflection you will have a better idea of what works for you and what doesn’t. You will be better situated to put your action into motion for the following days, weeks, and months to come. This type of self reflection will help you to create and establish a positive feedback loop to success. Once this positive feedback loop is created you will need help keeping it functioning. This is where the next component to Mindset comes into play; Motivation.

motivationMotivation is more than a cool video or meme. It’s a feeling, it’s a desire, it’s a want. When dealing with motivation it’s important to look at the different types of motivation and how they set up consistent behavior which creates positive habits.

In general there are two types of motivation, intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Intrinsic motivation deals with behavior driven by internal rewards. Extrinsic motivation tends to deal with performing a behavior or engaging in an activity that will earn a reward or to avoid punishment.

Usually, extrinsic motivation will be hard to sustain due to the reward system. With extrinsic motivation you are looking for a means to an end. Somewhere down the line you’ll get burnt out and tired of this motivational feed. In order to be successful you must find a good intrinsic motivator. By establishing an internal reward system you are able to build up your confidence and ability to complete tasks. By conducting a slow and steady approach, your motivation will be better situated to last in the long run.

This all goes back to the kind of attitude you are able to construct. Without the right attitude you’ll have a hard time finding the right kind of motivation to seek out. With your attitude set and your motivation found, you are ready to get started at achieving your goals. After the initial burst of energy burns off, you will need to dig deep in order to keep things rolling. For this you will need to establish and develop a great support system. This leads us to the last component of Mindset; Support.

Support Group ReminderSupport or Support System(s) is the last peace to the Mindset puzzle. Support is a necessary component for a foundation to hold strong. It’s difficult to build a strong Mindset if the Support System is lacking to hold everything together. A Support System can be held together by looking a one’s environment, friends, and family. By having a great environment with positive contributing friends and family, you are surrounding yourself for success. You will need someone to lean on when the going gets tough. Surrounding yourself with the right friends and family can make all the difference in the world. Your friends and family are some of the most influential people in your life and they can be a great positive Support System. You have to be able to turn to your family and friends when you feel or experience self doubt. It is their support that will make all the difference in your succession of your goals. If you are able to surround yourself with positive people that keep you motivated and are able to keep you on track, you will have set up another means of accountability for your actions.

A Support System is not complete until you have found a coach that is willing to help you along the way. Look for a fitness coach that will discuss goals and ideas with you. By finding a fitness coach, you will be able to connect to your goals on a deeper level making it more meaningful and concrete. Your coach can help you fine tune your fitness goals and make them more realistic for your desired time-frame. With the right tools and intentions, you can administer the ultimate plan for success.

Only when you are able to implement all three of these components of Mindset into your daily life, you’ll be able to start making positive progress towards your lifestyle goals. Once you are able to believe in your plan of action, your Attitude, Motivation, and Support will be the pillars upholding your Mindset.

Now it’s time to go out and set up your Mindset for success.

Reduce Stress and Increase Happiness in This Ten Minutes Per Day Habit – Improve Your Quality of Life Today!

October 6, 2016 by IR Staff 2 Comments

happyReduce Stress and Increase Happiness?
In Ten Minutes or less per day?
Sounds too good to be true, right?
This article might be long, but it will be worth the read, if you would like to experience an increase in your happiness, satisfaction, and success.
I have been partaking in a daily habit that is completely transforming the way I think about my life, my relationships, my work, and my purpose in life, and at this point, it would be selfish and wrong to not share this with the people in my life that want to experience improved quality of life. So here it goes…
Founder and Owner, Aaron Guyett with his kids.
Founder and Owner, Aaron Guyett with his kids.

How can you spend 2 to 10 minutes every day, and experience more happiness, satisfaction, and success, even in the midst of our busy and stressful lives?

First, we need to understand that thinking happy, satisfying, and successful thoughts goes against our nature. All of humanity is wired to remember and focus on the negative, and in case you think you are the exception, read these questions and ponder the answer.
Which thing can you remember faster, something a significant other in your life did that was good or bad?
busy lifestyleWhen you have performed a thousand good deeds or actions for your boss or job, why do they (or you) recall or focus on the one bad thing?
When asked a general question about the way you perform, why do you instantly think with a negative bias, and tend to find your body language, words, or thoughts to be defensive in nature?
Why do we tend to believe the World is getting more violent, oppressive, and dangerous, when every study of history depicts the opposite is in fact occurring in today’s World?
This is the way our minds were created, and without getting overly spiritual, this is what keeps us out of harms way.
kettlebell, kettlebell team, innovative results kettlebell team, Amanda Clover, Keri Guyett, Harrel Carman, Aaron Guyett, Manny Aragon, Christabel Tabbada, Jessica CiskeIf negatives didn’t affect us in a profound way psychologically, we would find ourselves eaten by animals, walking in front of fast-moving cars, and stepping off buildings, bridges, or cliffs often.
The issue with this brain wiring, is that even though life is easier and safer, relative to our human history, we are more depressed, anxious, and medicated than ever before.
We don’t have to fall into this pattern, though. We can make daily choices that help us focus on all of the good stuff, and experience lives that are happier, more satisfying, and more successful, despite the social, emotional, and environmental  pressure and stress that can seem to surround us.
Innovative Results, workouts, become better, better everyday, next one best one, orange county fitness playground
If we train our brains to focus on the positives and help seat these positives deep into our psycho-social rhythms, we will reap amazing quality-of-life improvements (And that is what Innovative Results is all about).
Daily movement is shown to improve us psychologically, just as much if not more than it improves us physiologically, but if our thoughts are bad, even playful movement can seem like a daunting task or difficult chore.
I challenge you, to take the 90 Day Bliss challenge:
  • Take 2 to 10 minutes everyday to partake in one of the Bliss App exercises to improve your quality of life for 90 days in a row.
summer-beach-fun-wallpaperWhy perform positive psychology or positive neuroplasticity training (PNT) daily?
From the Bliss App Page:
“Psychologists have identified a collection of exercises, or “interventions,” which have been shown to create long-lasting improvements in happiness, motivation, resilience, life-satisfaction, and a host of other positive mental traits. Bliss packages these exercises up for you in one application so that you can easily incorporate them into your life and reap all the benefits from decades of research in positive psychology.”
You can get the Bliss app on your phone (even iPhone) here: http://bliss31.com/about.php
If you are interested in some of the research behind this I suggest reading:

  • And this study http://www.rickhanson.net/teaching/tgc-public-summary/
There is a lot more material proving the point, but I won’t burden you with an exhaustive bibliography.
Know that I want you to experience improved quality of life through increased happiness, satisfaction, success, and purpose in you life, and I believe you will appreciate this HUGE step in that direction!

3 Simple Things To Focus On If You Want To Get in Shape and Feel Your Best

August 27, 2013 by ptpt 3 Comments

We are always trying to figure out new ways to help people get results.Eat-well-move-daily-hydrate-often-sleep-lots

Typically we try and add new exercises, try new diets, do this, don’t do that, etc.

The truth is that we are all making this fitness/health thing way too complicated.

If you want to get in shape, you really only need to do 3 simple things.

Move everyday, eat quality food and sleep….everyday.

Obesity has really taken hold of our culture in the last 20-30 years.

When I was young, food was more real and my mom couldn’t keep us inside.

Guess what?  No kids were overweight.

It really is that simple.

So what changed?

I believe that the computer, the couch and the car have combined to make us incredibly sedentary.  Most of us spend our day starring at a screen, texting on the phone, driving around and barely moving at all.  This lack of activity piles up over time and then our bodies become stiff, weak and unable to handle any physical activity.  A walk up the stairs becomes unbearable.

Our food supply has also been altered by industry.  Everyone from the farmers to the grocery stores are motivated by money and want to squeeze as much profit as possible from their product.  Over the years this has led to less quality and more quantity.  People eat more, but are becoming more deficient in essential minerals, vitamins, etc.  These deficiencies are leading to more ailments, such as headaches, inability to sleep, stomach problems, and a myriad of other symptoms.

In order to fix these two main problems, I believe people need to make a few simple changes.

farmers market1.  Commit to eating better quality foods.

I don’t expect people to become perfect over night, but learn to be conscious of what you eat and how you feel.  Regardless of your religious beliefs, think of it this way:  If God made it, eat.  The more we touch it, package it and market it, RUN!

  • Drink more water
  • Eat more vegetables, nuts, seeds, quality meats, eggs, plants, roots, herbs, and seasonings.
  • Drop sodas, snacks, chips, fast food, and most other packaged goods.

2.  Move every day.  move everyday

Notice that I said move instead of working out.  We were designed to walk, run, climb, crawl, and jump around.  Start by committing to a walk at lunch or after work.  Simply getting outside and moving around for a few minutes can change your mindset, improve your mood and clear your head.  Once you feel up to it, you can take on bigger challenges that interest you.

sleep3.  Get some Sleep

A lot of people that I help every week are chronically tired, worn down and beat up.  Quality sleep allows us to hit a reset button mentally and physically, allowing our body to repair and replenish.  Without sleep our body is unable to recover properly and that leaves us performing at a lower level.  Try turning off the computer, tv, phone and other distractions at least a couple hours before bed.  Read a book, talk with  your loved ones, go for a walk or similar.  This will help you relax before going to bed and will make falling asleep more simple.

A lot of people want to make fitness complicated, but I do not believe that it needs to be that way.  Keep it simple, stay committed and work towards implementing these three things into your daily habits.  You wont be perfect initially, but your goal is to improve, stay consistent and learn along the way.  Before you know it, your friends will be asking what you are doing to get such amazing results!
