Irvine Personal Trainer Solves Your Weight Loss Resolution

December 31, 2016 by ptpt 26 Comments

GirlsLC_pagsIrvine Personal Trainer Solves the New Year’s Resolution, To Lose Weight, with Simplicity, Automation, and Delegation

By: Aaron Guyett

The idea is to win or succeed in all of your endeavors and desires, and if you lose or fail, learning should occur to win the next time. This idea and the novel idea that all that has happened in the past is done and over, it can only be used to make better decisions for the future and to create the “right” actions, thoughts and words in the present. I think more than making the “right” decisions is being happy with the decisions made. So there is a one question to ask yourself before you continue. If you want to win…what is the emotion or reason behind the supposed #1 New Year’s Resolution, to lose weight?

If the reason or emotion is deep seeded enough, and the visualization of your success brings about happiness, let’s make your dreams come true!

jeff_laurie lunge

First, let’s simplify.

Losing weight is as simple as calories in and calories out. If this is true scientifically, you need only create thoughts, actions, and words to create a caloric deficit. How will you do this? Magic number 5:

  1. Write down your current situation specifically, with as many details as possible.
  2. Write down your goal specifically with as many details as possible. Now put away number one, and don’t look at it until March. Put your goal everywhere you look. When you see it remind yourself OUT LOUD what you are doing and why you are doing it (refer to the emotion or reason for the New Year’s Resolution).
  3. Know you can do it! (If you can’t get past this, than stop wasting your time reading this article)
  4. Become conscious of what you eat! (Write it all down. Everything that you put in you mouth liquid or solid, and know the calories) Journaling your diet is more of a mental task for yourself. If you don’t do it, hang up the resolution.
  5. Become active! Kill your TV, computer, (insert your biggest time waster here), and get outside and move! If you need help with this, email info@innovative-results.com.

Now it is time to automate.

Automation frees up time for you to do other things besides calculate calories and prepare meal plans. Two ways to do this:

  1. Get a trainer to do it for you. Email us at info@innovative-results.com
  2. Get an app (myfitnesspal is my favorite) and start recording your nutrition, hydration, and workouts. You will still need self-discipline. They will help you out, and it is free!

Last but not least delegate.

Delegation of your responsibilities, accountability, and discipline is a sure fire way to keep the flame burning bright and hot! 5 ways to delegate, what the delegation is:

  1. Accountability, responsibility, and disciplined can be delegated to a trainer and the trainer should help instill self-accountability, responsibility, and discipline.
  2. Family should hold you accountable to your goals. Be sure to describe the task they will be holding for you, because they love you and want you to succeed. If this is not the case with your family, fire them and make a new one.
  3. Friends should provide the same accountability systems as your family, if they are not on track with you, then your success should live with their uninvolved, unhelpful lives somewhere else.
  4. Co-workers cannot be fired, but they can be warned of the money that is involved should they adhere to your requests. Don’t have money? Tell them you are in a huge competition, and if you win you can take two people on a trip to the Cayman Islands. Hmmmm…who should I pick? (You might not win the competition, but you will win some hearts and minds for the time it takes you to get to your goal—maybe even some cheerleaders)
  5. Once you get to your goals you may rehire your lost family members, friends, and trainer for the spread of your newly acquired outlook on life. You did it!

Victory and the Versaclimber is an Innovative Results Daily Habit – Read The Story of E.O. and Sidney Here

Victory and The VersaClimber: Part of an Innovative Results Daily Habit

By: Margaret Fajardo

Eric Olson, weight loss, healthy weight loss
E.O. With a Sea Monster

It has become a time-honored ritual for two. Having just finished Innovative Results’ signature fitness training session, Sidney Sudberg and Eric Olson get on the VersaClimber and bust out a series of sprints. For many fitness session attendees at Innovative Results, the VersaClimber is a personal Everest. Its unique vertical climbing motion works the entire body, not to mention spiking the heart rate within milliseconds. Despite its efficiency, getting on the VersaClimber for 10-, 20-, and 30-second bursts, or even a full minute is no easy task.

Sudberg is a chiropractor of almost 70 years. Among his many physical credits is being an avid practitioner of yoga. Before every Innovative Results session, Sudberg stretches out and works on a variety of yoga poses. Olson is an entrepreneur in his late 40s. An experienced motocross rider, Olson has successfully gone from slow and overweight to defined and explosive in the last year and has continually advanced in his sport.

Sudberg and Olson show up to the 6am session, always ready for whatever the coaches have planned. Whether the workout focuses on upper body, lower body, or total body, Sudberg and Olson push themselves to the max. Getting on the VersaClimber then becomes an even sweatier yet sweeter victory to their morning routine.

Why Innovative Results Incorporates the VersaClimber

VersaClimber 3 at Innovative Results“It’s not a machine. It’s a tool, “ said Aaron Guyett, Innovative Results Founder and Master Coach. Guyett makes it a point to emphasize this distinction when referring to the VersaClimber. While electric fans are the only machines to speak of at Guyett’s gym – there are no static weight machines, treadmills, or TVs – his space certainly isn’t lacking in quality tools and equipment. Guyett’s coaching expertise maximizes each and every training tool available to him and his coaching staff, and the VersaClimber is no exception.

As Guyett elaborates: “We made the VersaClimber a big part of our programming because it integrates contralateral movements. It works your right and left brain together, which makes your brain function at a higher level, and reduces your stress at the same time.”

This brain-body connection produces multiple benefits. As Guyett explains, “Through its contralateral pattern, the VersaClimber has allowed current clients to overcome mental stresses and find deeper strength and deeper stores of energy by building aerobic capacity, and pushing them to new levels of understanding of how well their body and mind can perform.”

Irvine fitness training, Irvine Personal Training, Irvine Gym, Innovative Results, Orange County Fitness PlaygroundWhile most of us don’t climb vertically very often, the VersaClimber can still be an effective tool for overall fitness. Guyett talks about how the VersaClimber has “helped improve people’s coordination and performance in other active pursuits such as running, walking, sprinting, swimming, cycling. On top of the added benefits of increasing lean body mass, reduced body fat, and higher aerobic capacity, the reduced stress levels and efficient brain function, will improve people’s quality of life at home and at work.”

Get In, Get On, and Go All The Way

It looks like one of them will beat the other. But in fact, all are victorious, because Sudberg and Olson aren’t competing against each other. They’re each trying to beat their own previous records. As Olson said, “[The VersaClimber is] Something that gives you a number. When you’re doing it, you have the feedback of where you’re hitting, what the number is, how many feet per minute, what your time’s gonna be. It’s kinda like a true measurement.” His numbers have greatly increased. He now can climb 300 feet in one minute, completely obliterating his first time result of 202 feet in the same time. As Olson recalled, “First time we did a minute test, I hit 202, I was gassed and tired, I mean beat. I’ve gotten over 300 now and walk away from it. That’s the mark.” As a motocross rider, Olson has seen the added benefits of his cardio climb. He said, “Now, I can stay on my bike longer, have a lower heart rate while I’m riding.”

In the last year and a half at Innovative Results, Sudberg has experienced various kinds of progress. Among the greatest rewards are gaining more courage and conquering challenges. As Sudberg said, “What I didn’t expect was to experience the great sense of accomplishment and physical strength after doing the daily exercise routine and that with the greater resistance, came the keen sense that all challenges in life are the same.” This mindset helps him power through the added challenge of the Versaclimber. As Sudberg recalls, “At first, this was near impossible for me to keep up with, but with the consistent commitment of E.O. and my own personal commitment to overcoming my physical and mental resistance, I prevailed and now look forward to these ‘extra credit’ workouts, physically as well as mentally.”

Sudberg and Olson aren’t the only ones who go the extra mile. With the support and expertise of every Innovative Results coach, every client can successfully reach his or her own personal summit. Much like each VersaClimber step, every effort brings you closer and closer to your best.

Working Out Changed My Life – Thank You Innovative Results fitness gym!

May 17, 2016 by Jessica Leave a Comment

victoria anthony collageInnovative Results changed my mind about “working out.”

I used to be intimidated at the gym and would only run and do a few machines that I knew I could do without looking silly.

I must admit that I was very intimidated to walk into the gym that didn’t look like a gym at all.

I couldn’t figure out how I was going to get in shape in a place where playground equipment is.

Jennifer Lifting with KettlebellInnovative Results changed my perspective on working out.

And working out changed my life.

After only one month of training at IR, I lost and average of 1 inch in my measurements.

I feel good again.

I feel happy again.

I started to take my kids out and be active.

I continue to come to IR because the trainers make me feel great and push me to be the best I can be for that hour and beyond.

Supplements – Are Capsules or Powder Better? Find Out Now For Your Personal Nutrition, Strength Gains and Weight Loss.

December 17, 2015 by ptpt Leave a Comment

DietarySupplementQ& A: Are Capsules or Powder better to supplement with for your personal nutrition, strength gains, and weight loss?

A great question we are asked here at Innovative Results from our clients is, “should I take supplements for weight loss, muscle growth, or strength gains?”

Most importantly, please remember that supplements are meant to “supplement” a healthy diet, they are not intended to replace nutrients (real food), or apply a “quick-fix” to your fitness goals.

At the end of the day, you will still have to get moving with some form of exercise and maintain a healthy personal nutrition routine.

That being said, whether you take supplements, or are considering adding supplements to your personal nutrition plan it is important to know what is out there and what your options are regarding personal nutrition, strength gains, and weight loss.

Supplements can definitely help you stay focused, engaged and energetic through your workouts, but again they can’t help you if you aren’t pursuing some sort of fitness training.

A great start is a food journal, figure out where your dietary needs fall and work with REAL food first (if God made it, eat it…natural is better), then if supplementing fits into your nutritional and performance needs you will be well equipped with your personal blue print.

A food journal will help you stay on track with your daily nutrition, and give you a solid foundation for recovery, whether your goal is weight loss, fat loss, muscle gain, strength gain, or increased performance. We recommend My Fitness Pal, because it is easy-to-use, simple, an app on your phone, and FREE. binderlayingopen_550x634

10 Lessons I learned from Running Big Red

July 31, 2012 by ptpt 17 Comments

I personally like short term goals.

Goals that are within your reach, but force you to work consistently for a few weeks to attain them.

To be honest, it is truly amazing how quickly your body can adapt and change, if you give your body the stimulus, rest and fuel it needs.

You can use this for focused bouts of weight loss, performance enhancement, strength gains and more.

Over the last few weeks, I got into running hills.  Walter Peyton, Jerry Rice and countless other athletes have used hill runs to develop incredible power and endurance, so I wanted to give it a shot.

Luckily, we live in Orange County and are surrounded by hills.  After searching around Newport, Laguna, Aliso, Orange and other communities, I fell in love with a hill called Big Red at Peter’s Canyon.  It is about 150 yards long (ish), dirt, and very steep.

The first time I ran it, about 6 weeks ago, I could only manage 4 intervals.  I typically run up, walk down and repeat.

After 4 runs, I was cooked.

My calves, thighs and butt were burning, my throat and lungs were on fire and Big Red had truly humbled me.

So, I decided that I wanted to run this hill more often and develop a level of strength and conditioning to run 10 intervals.

I’m not sure about you, but in order for me to focus, I need to make goals that are a little nerve racking.

I like workouts that make me a little nervous beforehand.

This doesn’t have to be the case for you, but it is how my brain operates.

I decided that I would run at least twice per week.  I planned on adding 1 interval per week, until I hit 10.

The first week, I was really into it.  Got my two runs in, felt a little sore, but I was excited about the new challenge.

As the week’s went on, life started to get in the way.  Work got a little crazy, my meals were scattered, summer parties on the weekend, travel and other challenges started to interfere.

Some days I felt great, while other days were a struggle from the start.

Of the 6 weeks that I was training, I made it out to the hill only 4 weeks as planned.  I had to change times, days, missed other workouts completely, but I stayed focused and kept working.  Some days I was tired, crabby, stressed out, or not feeling like doing it, but I kept going.

This last weekend, I went out on Sunday morning to do my work.  I had missed the previous Thursday because of work, but I was rested and ready to get a good workout in.

I ran up, walked down, caught my breath and repeated the hill run 10 times.  At the time, it didn’t seem like a big deal, but afterwards I thought about how I felt the first time I ran Big Red 6 weeks prior.

There is no way I could have made 10 intervals before, but after a sporadic 6 week effort, my body was able to handle those runs.

Felt good.

Lessons learned from Running Big Red

  1. Do something that makes you a little nervous
  2. Learn to adapt to a busy schedule
  3. Most days you may not feel like working out, but you always feel better afterwards
  4. Working hard clears your head
  5. When you feel like quitting, you’re usually about half way done
  6. Get a partner to join ya.
  7. When running outside in the summer, go in the morning, not in the middle of the day
  8. Use ice baths after tough workouts
  9. Always bring a little backpack with food and water
  10. When running a hill, that’s a mile from your car, make sure you have your keys before you walk back after your workout.

So, that’s my experience over the last few weeks.  I will keep you posted on whats next.

Here’s my question for you…

What are you chasing this month?

Why are you working out or motivated to get off the couch?

Do me a favor and leave us a comment and share your reason for working out, current challenge or goal that you are working towards.

We are here to support ya!

Are you Overtraining or Making Progress Toward your Goals?

July 17, 2011 by ptpt 6 Comments

Exercise is a stress on our bodies.  When our bodies are able to adapt to the stress, we make progress.  When we are unable to adapt efficiently, then our bodies begin to break down.  The goal of this article is to give you a brief overview of the types of overtraining that occurs and how to avoid it.

There are basically 3 different types of overtraining which include sympathetic, parasympathetic and central nervous system overtraining. What does that mean?  Well, here are some simple breakdowns of each category.

‘Type A’ Adrenaline Junkies

Not the sign of a good workout

Sympathetic overtraining is probably the most common type of overtraining these days and occurs from an excessive amount of strength/anerobic activities without proper time to recover between sessions.  Day to day mental stress also affects this system, so stress levels outside the gym have to be addressed and accounted for if you want to keep this balanced and healthy.  Common symptoms include loss of appetite, weight loss, disturbed sleep patterns, increased resting heart rate, irritability, decrease in performance and fatigue.

Cardio Junkies

Addicted to runner’s high?

The second category is called Parasympathetic overtraining and is more commonly seen in endurance type athletes.  It is caused by an excessive amount of aerobic type activity.  “Cardio junkies, triathletes, runners and other distance athletes are most susceptible to this type of overtraining.   Symptoms can include depression, unmotivated and a general disinterest in things.

Olympic / Power / Strongman Lifter Types

The 3rd category in central nervous system (CNS) overtraining and occurs from excessive high intensity activities such as Powerlifting, Olympic weightlifting, plyometrics, strongman and other power drills.  This typically occurs when the volume of these types of activities os too high.  Symptoms can include decrease in reaction rate, lower strength, poor motor skills, and decreased ability to focus.

So how can you avoid overtraining?

Planning your workouts is essential.   Assessments are key to figuring out where your ability level is and then goal setting to determine where you want to go.

These days there are lots of programs that throw people into high intensity workouts and run them into the floor every time they come in the gym.    Other people may jump right into plyos or running long distances.  This is a recipe for disaster which can lead to overtraining, injury and more. The key to long lasting success is the ability to vary workouts between stimulating and recovering, using all three energy systems and adjusting exercise variables to allow proper progression towards your goal.

At Innovative Results we use proper alignment, exercise progression and varying intensities as the foundations of our workouts.  Its not just about getting a tough workout!  Varying ability levels and goals dictate the exercise selection and intensity of each workout.  Over time, everyone makes progress toward their goals safely and efficiently.

Remember, there is no “one size fits all” program that works for everyone.  Each person is unique and requires slightly different programs in order to perform.  Taking the time to learn and apply these principles can mean the difference between positive results and frustration.

Is Andrea Destined to be Overweight?

January 12, 2010 by ptpt 2 Comments

When you start Weight Watcher’s at 11 years old, you know you are destined to have weight issues for the rest of your life. I blamed my Mom for being overweight, I blamed my genetics, I blamed out on  my unpredictable asthma. I was looking for someone to say “it’s OK that you’re overweight because you can’t do anything about it”.

I had settled into an uncomfortable 167 lbs. at 5’5″ tall. I’ve always been very proportioned so when I told people that I weighed that much, they were extremely surprised. I told everyone I wanted to lose 42 lbs. which at that point seemed impossible. I got “You’re crazy” looks and, “you look great, why so much?” The answer: I didn’t feel comfortable at that weight.

I was sluggish.

I had no energy.

I was having stomach problems on a daily basis.

I was outgrowing my clothes on a monthly basis and didn’t feel like it was going to stop.

I didn’t have the will power to control my portions. I never ate badly; I just ate a lot of it. I’’ve always been the salad eating type. I actually hate hamburgers. I felt hopeless because to me, I was eating right.

Well, I changed all that. I came to Innovative Results in January of 2008 starting training 3 days a week. I remember having such a hard time getting through the workouts, but as the pounds came off, I realized it was getting easier. Along with my workouts, eating controlled proportioned meals and healthy snacks, I’ve been able to lose 30lbs. and 22 inches off my chest, waist and hips.

I haven’t had any stomach problems since I’ve changed my diet and I haven’t had any unpredictable asthma attacks.

I fit into clothes that I wore 10 years ago and most importantly my expensive jeans again.

I still have about 12 lbs. that I want to lose, but I know it will come off gradually. Innovative Results is great to train with because you don’t get burned out. Every workout is challenging so your body doesn’t plateau. I was worried about building too much muscle, but I haven’t.

I am more confident, happy, energetic and healthier than I ever thought possible.

This has been a complete lifestyle change for me and I can’t thank my Innovative Results personal trainer enough for helping me make it happen.

A Food Diary Can Accelerate Your Weight Loss!

January 5, 2010 by ptpt 4 Comments

After training for twelve years and dealing with thousands of people, I know one thing for sure.

People that are conscious about eating healthier get amazing results!

According to a new study found in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, dieters who kept a food diary lost an average of 18 pounds in 6 months while dieters who didn’t only lost 9 pounds.

That’s twice the results!

I’ve seen it time and time again.  People want to lose weight, but fail to get honest with themselves.  Keeping a food diary has many benefits:

  • You see exactly what you eat and drink
  • You can see patterns in your eating habits (good and bad)
  • You can see weaknesses in your nutrition
  • You become conscious of what you are eating
  • and much more

If you are serious about transforming your body, then you HAVE to keep a food diary.

3 Keys to Quick Weight Loss, Gaining Muscle Fast and Permanent Fat Loss

September 30, 2009 by ptpt 5 Comments

Looking for quick weight loss?

The majority of gym goers are locked into a foggy series of actions that lead nowhere.  “But they’re working out” you may say.  I disagree.  They are at the gym, but they are far from working out.  Most people that frequent gyms are just stuck in a rut, whether they want to admit it or not.

Most of us have good intentions when joining a gym or starting any exercise program.  Losing weight for your wedding, dropping body fat for the new bikini, or gaining muscle to look more manly.  But here’s where most people fumble.. they start showing up, wandering around and just using whatever they know how to use.  There’s no strategic path, there’s no clear goal and there is definitely no intensity to make it happen.

Here are 3 main factors that will help you get to your goal faster than you ever thought possible.

Lose weight faster than you ever thought possible.

Pile on muscle faster than anyone at your gym.

Here are the secret factors that no one ever talks about that will help you develop the body you have always wanted.

1.  You have to know what you want, why you want it and when you are going to achieve it. Goal setting is the foundation of success.  Developing the body you desire also takes planning.  Do you know what you want to achieve in the gym?  Is it a flat stomach, gigantic shoulders, a record breaking squat, a higher vertical jump?  What result are you looking for?  Got it?  Ok, now why do you want that?  Here’s a secret, it better be important.  If you are not passionate about your goals, then when distractions come up and life gets in the way, you will lose focus and you wont get the results you desire. So, take some time and make your goals clear, figure out why you want em, and lastly set a deadline.  You’ve gotta have something to shoot for, to chase, to strive for in order to win.

2. Next is the secret to success in the gym. If you wanna pass everyone in your gym and get incredible results, here is the number one secret: INTENSITY. Most people just go through the motions, never pushing themsleves, never making progress, never changing anything.  We are creatures of habit, but in order to make progress we have to break through that monotony.  People that gain muscle, move big weights or lose weight successfully walk into the gym with a purpose.  They are focussed on their goals and they are going to workout with everything they’ve got.  You’ve probably seen them at your gym and there is no doubt that they are there to kick butt and get results.  If your goals are clear and important, then the next step is to walk in the gym with a winning attitude, ready to work harder than ever, push yourself and earn the results you desire!

3. Consistency is key! Everyone has heard to story of the tortoise and the hair.  Most people start a program, then fizzle out.  They are too tired, too sore, too busy, etc.  If you want to make a dramatic change in your body and/or your performance, then a consistent, focused level of intensity conquers all. On the road to your goal there are always bumps in the road and everything wont go as planned, but if you are consistent and fight through the challenges, you will be rewarded, I promise!

So, get focused on your objective, develop passion for that result, work harder than ever and stay consistent no matter what gets in your way.  Anything is possible if you apply these tips to your workouts.
